Thank you to Random House and Netgalley for an advanced ebook copy.

Jodi hires a housekeeper for her parents. Her mother is in the end stages of Parkinson’s and her father is almost 80 years old. The one she hires seems almost too good to be true. And you know what that means. Fielding frequently adds trigger warnings like this to the end of her chapters.

The housekeeper, Elyse, babysits Jodi’s children without being asked, is a master in the kitchen, and seems to get along well with everyone. Until she doesn’t.

Fielding first introduced me to domestic suspense and I’ve been a fan of hers and the genre ever sense. In her “acknowledgements” she said it took her only five months to write “The Housekeeper” because there was nothing else to do during the panic. I wish I had that kind of talent to draw on.

Her characters, especially sister Tracy, and new guy in town, Roger; are exquisitely drawn as is Jodi's sneaky, adulterous husband, Harrison. She keeps the action going with short chapters and lots of “what do we do now?” This is Fielding’s 30th book. That’s quite an accomplishment.

I want to join the other reviewers who gave this title five stars because it is so well deserved. I'd recommend it in a heartbeat.

I enjoyed the mystery element of the story. What I had a hard time with is the main character Jodi. I found it very hard to have any sympathy for the situations she found herself in. I like my female characters with at least a little common sense. I found it hard to finish reading sometimes because she let everyone walk all over her in every situation. I love this author and the mysteries she creates in her books. Just wish Jodi would of stood up for herself at least once.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for granting my wish to read and review this book.

“The Housekeeper” was the first book that I’ve read by Joy Fielding. I’ve heard a bit about Ms. Fielding, so I was pretty excited to finally read a book by her.

Jodi, the most passive “don’t rock the boat” character I think I’ve ever read, hires a caretaker for her mother, suffering from Parkinson’s. Jodi’s father is against this - until he meets the housekeeper, Elyse. Because this is a domestic thriller, it’s pretty obvious how the plot will unfold, but it was an interesting ride to the conclusion. I did like the little twists along the way that Ms. Fielding included (such as the son’s involvement) and some of Jodi’s humour, along with foreshadowing. What I liked was that with the exception of Jodi’s children, I really didn’t like any of these characters - but I remained curious to know how the story was going to unfold. I did like the epilogue for probably the oddest reason - the character who flittered about finally did something and, as predicted, was successful. I found the writing engaging, so I will read another book by Ms. Fielding.

thank you to NetGalley for letting me read a advanced copy. This story is so relatable I could pictured the whole book like I was watching a movie. I caught myself many times thinking I would do this exact same thing or this is how I would of reacted as well. The blame the main character feels is something so relatable. Im so glad I got to read this before it came out I loved it so much I read it in 2 days the story just flowed together I even read it during my lunch time.

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC.

How is this my first Joy Fielding novel? Not only did I love this book, but I love her writing style as well. I devoured this one and hopefully will be doing the same with the twenty nine previous books of hers if they are anything like this. I was drawn in from page one and couldn't put this down. The only thing preventing me from giving this a full five stars was I just wanted a little more from the ending. It wasn't exactly rushed, I just wanted more. All in all, I loved this one.

“In the end, I have only myself to blame. I’m the one who let her in.”

Hiring a housekeeper was what Jodi thought she needed to help her care for her aging parents in order for her to balance her career, family, and parents’ needs. Enter Elyse Woodley. Jodi’s father, Vic, in his late seventies was hesitant about accepting any help, to help care for his wife, Audrey, who has Parkinson’s. He soon warms up to Elyse, an energetic, attractive woman in her early sixties. Jodi didn’t think things could be more perfect - her father has company and her mother is being cared for. She has finally found the perfect housekeeper, or has she?

Jodi was my favorite character in the book by far. She has to deal with a controlling father, entitled sister - Tracy - who is throwing her under the bus any chance she gets, and sneaky husband - Harrison - along with trying to ensure her mother is cared for - when she thinks she has it all figured out, another curve ball is thrown her way.

This book was my first read by Joy Fielding and it will not be my last. I could not put it down! This one will keep you hooked with the timely twists and turns, holding your attention until the last page!
Add this one to your TBR if you love domestic thrillers, twisted family dynamics, and quick, suspenseful reads!

Jodi Bishop is a successful real estate agent. She has two beautiful kids and a husband who is writer and is attempting to write another successful novel.
Jodi also helps her dad, Vic, with her mom Audrey, who has developed Parkinson’s disease and her condition has not gotten any better.

But Jodi knows she can’t manage it all and knows her dad needs help to care for her mom, and so she decides to hire a housekeeper, against her father’s wishes. Jodi hires Elyse. Elyse is like a dream come true. With excellent references, Jodi feels she hit the jackpot and feel certain this is the help they so desperately needed.

Slowly but surely crazy things start to happen that Jodi kind of questions, but then ignores those red flags thinking it’s all in her head or she is reading too much into these occurrences. Along with that, her husband Harrison is acting a bit suspicious as well and almost feels like he resents her for being the main provider for the household.

This story frustrated me to no end and for so so many reasons. It seems like Jodi was the only sane one in this story, but also a little too gullible and if anything it was like she was everyone’s punching bag. From her ungrateful gas lighting husband, to her controlling toxic father and then her annoying “older” sister who pretty much threw her under the bus at every chance she got, and which I might add acted more like spoiled teenager than a grown woman who still has to have daddy pay her way through everything.

This was suspenseful for sure, but a bit slow moving to get there. Unlikeable characters are all over this one so be prepared to wanting to go through these pages and shake some sense into Jodi.

TW: death of a loved one, domestic abuse, gas lighting, body shaming, affairs, toxic environment, verbal abuse

Thank you @netgalley, @Randomhouse and author for this digital ARC in exchange for my honest review. This book is set to publish August 16, 2022

You can always rely on a Joy Fielding novel. This one is fast paced, tightly woven and y keep flipping the pages even though you'll know how the story is going to go; until ofcourse it veers a bit. Family dynamics here are definitely of the screwed up kind and this reminded me alot of The Younger Wife in a lot of ways. Perfect vacation read. TW: domestic and elder abuse; I normally don't give these but there's something to the vulnerability here that I felt I needed to. 3.5 stars and another good domestic thriller.

Another great read from Joy Fielding. While I enjoyed many of the characters, I couldn’t help rolling my eyes during scenes with Jodi’s husband.

What. A. Ride.

Joy Fielding DELIVERS all the emotions, the highs and lows, the suspense and the drama in The Housekeeper.

WARNING. DO NOT PICK THIS UP unless you have no plans to do anything else. You won't be able to, nor will you want to put this down.

WOW! Such a good and suspenseful ride!

Clear your calendar! Silence the phones! When you start reading The Housekeeper, you won’t be able to stop. It will shock you, take your breathe away, make you angry… you get it, the full range of emotions! It’s that good.

It begins innocently enough. Jodi Bishop’s parents are in their late 70s, her mother is in the terminal stages of Parkinson’s disease and her father is the sole caregiver. Jodi is weighted down by the demands of two young children, her flighty sister’s lack of support and a complaining husband who has spent the past decade writing his second book. She decides to hire a housekeeper to help with her parents and ease some of her own responsibilities. This sounds like a good idea but, trust me, it is not. It’s only the start of a chain of bad ideas which will lead you deeper into this twisted nightmare.

The Housekeeper is deftly plotted, full of realistic though not likable characters and will make you wonder just what you would do in Jodi’s situation. There’s no easy answer. This is a fantastic 5 star read!

Joy fielding never disappoints!
The only problem that I had with this book (as I do with all her others) is that I start them at night and then I can't go to sleep because I have to continue reading till I finish the book.
This book had a few twists and turns and you really had no clue how it was going to end until it did.
Great book , just like all her others.

In my opinion, if a book is meant to do anything it’s to illicit emotion. The Housekeeper brought me from intrigued to outraged to shocked to perfectly content. What a fabulous ride! Be prepared to stay up late turning pages with Joy Fielding’s latest novel, it’s a wonderful companion!

Thank you to NetGalley and Joy Fielding for allowing me to receive an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in exchange for an honest review.

I'll start by saying I have read everything Joy Fielding has written, and she didn't disappoint this time! I'm exhausted from lack of sleep because of reading this book. It was amazing!

Jodi is the breadwinner in her family, working as a successful realtor so her husband can work on his writing career and caring for their 2 kids. Jodi is also helping her father to care for her mother who is ailing/ suffering from Parkinson's. She finally convinces her father to hire a housekeeper/ caregiver.

Jodi's sister, Tracy, is physically present, but is essentially overwhelmed with all that is going on, not set in a career. Dad, who is almost 80 still covers her bills for her.

Jodi interviews Elyse, and pretty much hires her on the spot. She is a miracle worker/ angel all wrapped up into one..... until Jodi starts to notice things missing, behavior with her father, etc.

So many twists and turns in this story! I was on the edge of my seat, stayed up far too late, woke up early wondering what was going to happen in the story, etc.

I would highly reccommend The Housekeeper, coming out August 2022

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Genre : domestic thriller
This one was a twisty little page-turner for sure!
Jodi is successful in her own right, even if her father never acknowledges it. The breadwinner of her family, her writer husband is always there to admonish her for the time she spends away from her family working and helping her parents. Never able to catch a break she finally decides to hire her dad a housekeeper to help look after her ailing mother. In walks her dream come true, Elyse. The perfect housekeeper in every way…until she becomes their worst nightmare.
Definitely add this one to your TBR! Out August 16, 2022 - thanks @Netgalley & Joy Fielding!

This book was sent to me by. etgalley for a review electronically…I enjoy the books by this author…I look forward to the next one…this is one of mystery…a thriller…one might guess what will happen but the innovative author surprises us at times…family and illness…disagreements…love…friendship…betrayal…secrets…evil…these themes abound in this story…it is a don’t put it down book…once I started reading, I had to see how it ended…I will read it again…don’t miss this book…I do wish some of the language could be left out…it distracts from the story…

Another great Joy Fielding! While this may look like the stereotypical housekeeper taking advantage of an older couple, this one has some twists you won't see coming...including the ending. Built on solid character development and plenty of dysfunctional family dynamics, definitely one to read!

I am still tired after staying up nearly all night reading The Housekeeper. I've been a fan of Joy Fielding for years, and this one drew me in from the first page. Caring for an aging parent is not easy, and as Jodi Bishop tries to do the right thing by hiring someone who seems perfect, it becomes evident that when something seems too good to be true, it is. At the end, the author stated that she hadn't planned to come out with another book so quickly, but during the pandemic, this one came to her mind. I'm so glad that it did. I highly recommend this one (actually any of her books) Thank you to NetGalley, the author and Random House Publishing/Ballentine for an e-ARC of this title in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine for the copy of The Housekeeper by Joy Fielding. I have been reading Ms. Fielding’s books for many years, and this is right up there with her best. The story has been done before, but the deft writing added in some extra twists. The characters were not very likable or sympathetic, but they were fleshed out well enough that I got to know them and was able to anticipate some of their reactions.
Whether you’re a longtime fan or new to this author you would like this book.
