Rizzoli & Isles : Listen to Me by Tess Gerritsen is an excellent addition to this beloved series. No prior knowledge of Gerritsen's characters is necessary to enjoy this easy to follow plot that centers on two strong women. Jane Rizzoli and her partner Barry are investigating the murder of a beloved nurse who was killed in her home. Rizzoli is convinced that the nurse's death is just a piece of a bigger puzzle. Jane's mother Angela has too much time on her hands and elevates her neighborhood watch instincts. Angela becomes involved in two surprising scenarios. Also unexpected is Maura Isles performing as a concert pianist. This novel would appeal to any reader looking for an entertaining and satisfying story.

Thank you to Ballantine Books for the ARC of this novel.

It's been five years since Tess Gerritsen has written a Rizzoli & Isles novel, but the duo is back in the 13th book in the series, Listen to Me, but it was worth the wait!

Detective Jane Rizzoli is investigating the murder of an ICU nurse, Sofia Suarez, who has been bludgeoned to death while Dr. Maura Isles, medical examiner, is examining Sofia's body for any clue that can help find her killer. In the meantime, Jane's mother Angela, the neighborhood busybody, is taking the motto “if you see something, say something,” to the extreme and calling Jane about everything she sees that's just the least little bit suspicious.

Yet, maybe Angela is on to something this time as her new neighbors aren't friendly at ALL: they don't want her prize-winning zucchini bread, they've installed bars over the windows, they keep the shades drawn all day, and she's pretty sure the guy has a gun. But Jane isn't taking her seriously and is busy trying to catch Sofia's killer and figure out what, if any connection, there is to Sofia's death and the hit-and-run several months ago to Amy Antrim, a young college student whose doctor father worked with Sofia.

I love this series, and I was so glad to see another book come out in the series. I do wish Maura had played a bigger role in this book as she was relegated to more of a minor character, which I didn't love at all, and to be honest, although I enjoyed the book, it's not a favorite in the series because Angela played such a prominent role as MC. Gerritsen is a master storyteller though and the plot threads, of which there were several, all come together brilliantly and I was surprised on more than one occasion.

All in all an entertaining mystery that I definitely recommend to anyone who is a fan of police procedurals or mysteries!

Thank you NetGalley and Random House/Ballantine Books for the ARC in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

This was a bit more of a mystery than the suspense that I was expecting, but was still very much worth the read. It is a smart, witty story with incredibly likeable characters. A great addition to the Rizzoli and Isles series.

Loved this story! The best one yet. I did not want to put it down. Jane is on the scene of the murder of a beloved nurse. She lives alone and everyone loved her. Who could have done this to her? While Jane is investigating this murder, Angela is trying to get Jane's attention to take care of a few things in her neighborhood. A neighbor's teenage daughter has run away from home and there is a new neighbor who isn't very friendly and is very secretive. Jane's case is wrapped up neatly, but something is still bugging her about it. Angela is kidnapped because she was being so nosy. Will Jane find Angela before something really bad happens to her? Can Jane figure out that one thing that is nagging at her about her case?

The first Rizzoli & Isles book in several years!I love this series and was excited to read this book. It started out slow for me, but it picked up speed about a quarter of the way through. I wasn't a huge fan of Angela's POV, and, as often is the case with multiple narrators, at least one of them is unreliable.

I hope Tess Gerritsen continues this series sooner than five years from now. I am always up for a new Rizzoli & Isles.

I love the “Rizzolli and Isles” books and Ms. Gerritsen’s fans have waited so long for a new adventure. This book is set up in a different fashion, with the primary character being Angela Rizzoli, the mother of the detective. This portion of the book reads like the television series of the same name. I kept picturing Lorraine Braco and hearing her voice. I feel cheated, as Angela is such an annoying character, and a busybody to boot. So, Angela, we ‘listened’ to you, now go back to being a secondary character. This book was such a let-down because the story was a disappointment. We ALL want Jane Rizzolli and Maura Isles BACK as our protagonists!

The first Rizzoli and Isles novel from Tess Gerritsen in five years is something to celebrate. LISTEN TO ME has a multitude of the subplots and sinister twists that Gerritsen is so good at. The involvement of Jane Rizzoli's mother Angela in her own investigation -- something she feels compelled to do because her daughter the detective won't take her worries seriously -- is an absorbing complication. The wait is over, and Tess has delivered a perfect book for both longtime and new fans.

I am a fan of both this long-running book series and the television show that was adapted from them. In the book series, the details about the lives of the main characters are different from the TV show, but the essence of the characters is the same. Detective Jane Rizzoli is married with a child in this book and is smart, down-to-earth, and impatient. As in the television show, medical examiner Dr. Maura Isles is still brilliant, elegant, and a perfectionist in everything she does. Together, they work well together to investigate the cases assigned to them.

It was great spending time with Jane and Maura again as they investigate a brutal murder, but I have to say Jane's mom Angela was my favorite character in this book. She is clever, maternal, and a little bit nosy. Nothing that happens in her neighborhood gets by Angela. She proves she has a lot to offer and should not be dismissed just because she is a middle-aged woman. Angela saves the day and steals the show in this fast-paced book. I highly recommend this excellent mystery.

This is a fantastic addition to the Rizzoli and Isles series, but perhaps my favorite part is the additional perspective of Jane's mother, Angela. Longtime readers of the series will know that Jane finds her mother a bit meddling and exasperating, and she often proves why in this book- though as we get to know her and see her impact, she definitely grew on me until I definitively ended up on Team Angela. The mystery Jane is working to solve is fascinating on its own, and the way this story connects all the bits was really satisfying.

Another brilliant Rizzoli & Isles book!
So much going on in Listen to Me! Especially with Jane’s mother, Angela. What a pickle she gets into!
As usual, Jane has a few things going on. With the help of Maura they have a murder case and a local teenager seems to have ran away. What could possibly tie these cases together? So many twists and turns to get to the answer.
Rizzoli & Isles is one of my favorite series so I was thrilled to see another book come out in the series.

After five long years, Tess Gerritsen has produced another great addition to the Rizzoli and Isles series! In this book, Jane and her partner Barry Frost are investigating the seemingly unrelated deaths of an ICU nurse and the abduction of another woman. Meanwhile, Jane’s mother, Angela, has decided to be the newly self-appointed neighborhood watch captain. Angela keeps bothering Jane with odd occurrences in her neighborhood, but Jane has more important crimes to investigate and doesn’t head her mother’s worries.

This was an enthralling read. The plethora of plot threads do eventually come together after many twists and turns. Tess Gerritsen kept me guessing throughout the book as to how everything was connected. While Maura, my favorite character, was only a minor character in this book, I did appreciate the role that Angela played in this book. I felt I was able to get to know her better. Although I felt some of her actions were a bit over the top, I was able to see how Angela and Jane are more alike than I previously thought.

I highly recommend this book to any fans of police procedural thrillers, especially those that are already invested in the Rizzoli and Isles series! I can’t wait to read the next installment in the series! Hopefully, Tess Gerritsen won’t make us wait another five years this time.

Another great Rizzoli & Isles story. First, a confession....I still see Angie Harmon when I read Jane and Lorraine Bracco when I read Angela, which makes these books even more appealing. Jane's new case involves a nurse, murdered in her home, with no apparent connections to anyone who would harm her. Jane knows there's a secret somewhere and she's determined to find it. Meanwhile, Mom Angela, is on an investigation of her own. Something's not right with the new neighbors and she's determined to find out what's going on. Everything comes together in the end, but not without more murder, excitement and near catastrophe. Books like this are why I read murder mystery and suspense. I enjoyed it. It's a good ole cop story with NO bizarre weirdness like many mysteries today. My thanks to NetGalley and Random House for the ARC of this book which will be published July 5, 2022. It's a good one and you will love it!

The Rizzoli & Isles series by Tess Gerritsen is one of my favorites! The camaraderie between Detective Jane Rizzoli and Medical Examiner Maura Isles leads to some great story dynamics between the two as they crime-solve. In this particular book another favorite character of the series, who happens to be Jane's mother Angela, is the focus of one of the story-lines within the book.....and its a great one! While Jane and Maura dig deep into solving a homicide and its connection to a random hit-and-run of a young girl who is being stalked, Angela does some of her own digging into neighborhood hyjinx. Who can't help but love the interfering Italian mother? But this time, it gets her in a whole lot of trouble. In a random discussion with Angela about what happens to her, Jane gets a hint of something that she has been missing in her own case ..... which leads her to a surprising discovery.

Jane and Maura have a twisty case on their hands with the murder of Sofia, a recently widowed nurse. Was she really as well liked as people say or did she have a dark secret? Jane and her partner Barry, with the assistance of Jamal, a teenage neighbor, find interesting info on her computer which leads them to....another case involving the stalking of Amy Antrim. Amy, the daughter of the physician who ran the ICU where Sofia worked, was involved in a hit and run accident months earlier. The real sideways (of a sort) thread is Angela, Jane's mom, who is bored and thus turns into a neighborhood watch all her own. She's concerned about the Greens, new arrivals who keep to themselves, and keeps bugging Jane about it. All three threads will pull together eventually but how? Fans of of this series will be pleased to spend time with the crew and all their quirks. Thanks to the publisher for the ARC. How I wish these were still being made for TV!

This is the first book in this series that I have read. I enjoyed the characters, as well as the suspense/mystery of the story. I can hear the characters as I am reading, thanks to watching the tv series from start to finish. It is very interesting to read the book to see where the tv series differs. As always, I much preferred the book over the show!!

Another great book in the Rizzoli and Isles series. This one was fun because there were the alternating POVs and one of them was Jane's mom, which we have gotten a taste of in other books, but she was prominent in this one. As usual Tess Gerrritsen was a master and weaving together seemingly unrelated crimes into a master plan. I had some ideas, but ended up being surprised at the end. Anyone who enjoys the series would also love this one. A 5 star recommendation from me!

Listen to Me is the 13th installment of the Rizzoli & Isles book series. This series has become one of my favorites over the years and I couldn't wait to get my hands on this one. There was so much going on in this book - a widowed nurse being murdered, the drama in Jane's mom's neighborhood, a young woman possibly being stalked, a teenage runaway - it seemed never ending. But with all that going on Tess Gerritsen knows how to tell a story and keep a reader on their toes. I loved the addition of Jane's mother's POV in this one! Tess Gerritsen - please tell me when book 14 will be out!! Thank you to NetGalley and Random House - Ballantine for a digital arc of this title.

This was my first Rizzoli and Isles book, proving that you can jump in to this series at any time and enjoy it!

It was quick for me to see what so many love about these books. Two strong women with important jobs, their own personal lives and the community that surrounds them. I love that aspect, and it at times came as a way to soften the heavy stories surrounding the book.

There are several mysteries going on in this particular title -- it reads like a TV show, where each scene takes you to a different place or storyline. Angela Rizzoli is curious abut her neighbors across the street, while also trying to keep tabs on a local teen runaway. Jane Rizzoli is investigating not only a murder case, but a separate stalker case that she feels may intertwine. And of course, Isles is present through it all.

I look forward to continuing to read this series.

Full Disclosure: I received an advanced copy of Listen to Me, the 13th book in the Rizzoli & Isles series, by Tess Gerritsen from Ballantine Books via NetGalley.

I was so excited to have a new Rizzoli & Isles book! I've read all the books, I've watched all the episodes of the TV show, I missed these characters. It was so wonderful to have them back, and to have Angela, Rizzoli's mom, take a more prominent role. She could almost have her own spin-off after this book. Catching up with our favorite characters is great, but we came here for what Rizzoli & Isles do best, crime-solving. There's plenty of that to go around. Be ready for some twists and turns. Not everyone is as they seem.

I hope we won't have to wait so long for the next one.
