I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (NubeOcho) or author (David Hernandez Sevillano) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

Zebra is kind enough to share his umbrella with a wide variety of creatures . . . though some must promise to be on their best behavior. This is a sweet, simple story about generosity and sharing, highlighted by ADORABLE artwork.

A bright and colorful winner!

When the rainy season starts, Zebra is prepared with his umbrella. Soon enough, lots of other animals come seeking shelter, and they all learn a good lesson about how making room for everyone can pay off handsomely! This is a sweet, simple story with lots of heart.

Kids will enjoy identifying all the animals who visit. They can also practice counting as the crowd under the umbrella grows. There are some nice expressive verbs in the text to enrich vocabulary as well. The illustrations are in a hand-drawn style that is interesting to look at and very colorful. This would be a great circle-time read for pre-K!

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!

It's the rainy season in the savanna and zebra using his colorful umbrella while it rains. Different animals come up to ask if they can sit under his umbrella. When the lion comes up to ask if he can sit under the umbrella, will the other animals trust him to sit with them?

Beautiful colors invite you into the book just like the zebra invites the other animals under his umbrella. I love the message that everyone is welcome, including the obvious predator, the lion.
Ages 5-8

I liked where this was going but it ended up being lackluster. I expected there to be more at the end but it just abruptly ended? I hoped it would include more counting or really just any more of a story, because there really isn't anything happening in this book.

This is a cute, little story with adorable illustrations. Zebra accepts several other animals, including a lion, under his gorgeously coloured umbrella during a heavy rainfall. Zebra makes room for everyone, demonstrating kindness, sharing and compassion. The author conveys a profound message simply, and with a striking and stylish umbrella.

Thank you to Netgalley and to Publisher Spotlight for this ARC in exchange for my review.

This adorable story has bright, appealing illustrations and will appeal to readers of all ages. I loved that the zebra invited everyone under the umbrella, including the lion (even though the other animals were nervous about it!) I would use this story with young children to talk about welcoming refugees into our community. It could also just be used to discuss the importance of kindness.

I love this heartwarming book. It's a lovely gesture by Zebra who is the custodian of a colourful umbrella. During a substantial downpour he opens up his umbrella and his heart and invites Gazelle, Rhinoserous, Elephant, and Hare, with her three sweet daughters, to join him as he sequesters himself from the storm. But wait... lion appears and stands outside dripping wet looking in. Zebra's empathetic heart opens up and invites him to join the group on the condition that he doesn't bite anyone.

Sandwiched under the umbrella the diverse and happy crowd enjoy stories, riddles, games and songs together sheltered from the cloudburst.

After the soaker subsides and everyone thanks Zebra for his hospitality Lion posses a question to the host.

"Zebra, why is your umbrella so colourful?"

I wonder what Zebra's response will be. Can you guess? The illustrations are colourful, bright and expressive. All the animals portrayed are adorable. The story highlights friendship, acceptance, kindness and sharing. I highly recommend it.

Zebra's Umbrella was a simple book with cute illustrations. The zebra allowing the other animals under their umbrella was a great way to open up a dialog of community, sharing and friendship with the children you are reading to. I feel that the ending was a little bit abrupt and the not explained enough to make complete sense but overall I think it is a sweet book that kids will enjoy.
