This was an intricately told story told from multiple points of view and spanning several decades. The non-linear storyline adds interest and intrigue, slowly revealing a complex puzzle. This one had many layers and examines concepts such as grief, traumatic childhoods, abuse of power and living with secrets. The characters were relatable and I had a hard time putting this one down wanting to know how the story would conclude. Thank you to the Lake Union and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Bermuda triangle looms large over this novel of tangled loves. Know that it moves around in time- a lot. Olivia has been mourning her husband Dean for years- ever since the plane he was flying went missing there. Melanie was seeing Dean for mental health issues but they fell in love. She's an expert on- wait for it- the Triangle. I know others have enjoyed this but I was frustrated by it and eventually put it down. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley and am voluntarily posting a review. All opinions are my own.
Julianne MacLean has been on my radar for a while, at least partially due to her background in romance (I very likely saw her work on a bookstore or library shelf at one point next to Sarah MacLean’s), but I never got around to picking up one of her books until now. And while Beyond the Moonlit Sea is more women fiction-meets-thriller, it sucked me in.
This story follows some deeply complicated people, and the mysteries surrounding them, over a long period of time. While Olivia, as an “outsider” to her husband’s secrets, is the main POV character as she first falls for Dean and then grapples with his supposed death, we also dip into the perspectives of her husband Dean and his patient-turned-lover Melanie in the past, prior to his marriage to Olivia. This culminated in questions around the circumstances of his disappearance, which unfolded throughout.
Structurally, it’s an interesting choice to put some of the cards on the table for the reader earlier on than they’re known to Olivia. As a result, the reader’s illusion of him is shattered before hers is. But I also think it works, as it aids in building the anticipation and suspense. And there are still questions around what happened to Dean in the aftermath of his disappearance. I did feel like the many time jumps in Olivia’s timeline did more to distract from that than anything else, but like that it allowed for an intriguing way of tracking him down.
I really felt for Olivia throughout and one aspect of the “in-between” section I did like was that she managed put her life back together and ended up finding happiness with someone stable and caring, who also raised her and Dean’s child as his own as part of the family they went on to build together. Even though she had not gotten full closure with Dean at that point, I’m glad she found happiness.
I enjoyed this one a lot, and I’m open to trying more from Julianne MacLean in the future. If you enjoy contemporary/women’s fiction and/or mystery/thriller, I recommend picking this one up.

Julianne MacLean has a knack for writing about tragic situations with tragic men. While it is the people in their lives that suffer the most somehow they are able to rise above it all. She has done so again beautifully with Beyond the Moonlit Sea. This time it involves a missing plane and pilot lost in the Bermuda Triangle. However, this is more the pilot’s wife’s story and her journey to find acceptance of the facts, to love again and to discover just how strong she is.

I don’t know how Ms. MacLean does it. By the end of the book you have empathy for all involved, not sure if any of them could be real villains. Mostly you know that they are flawed characters Leaving you wondering what you would have done if faced with the same situations. You would like to think you would have done better, but would you have? Read today and decide.

An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Juliane MacLean has written another engaging page turner with Beyond the Moonlit Sea. The book is bit slow in the beginning. But, once the puzzle pieces start coming together I had trouble putting the novel down. The characters are multi-dimensional and the plot is compelling. Ms. MacLean does not disappoint with her latest novel. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!

We are taken from the brilliance of New York City to the beach of Miami and the Great Barrier reef in Australia in a story that will keep you turning each page in anticipation of what is going to happen next with Olivia Hamilton.

Olivia Hamilton thinks she has the world at her door. She meets the man she wants to spend the rest of her life with, the love of her life, Dean Robinson a therapist she meets when she is doing a documentary for her gradate year from collage. Despite her father's misgivings and faith in Olivia, she marries Dean and they live what she thinks is an idyllic life in Maimi with Dean. But one phone call in the middle of the night and her world is changed forever. Dean is missing, his plane has gone off the radar screen and they believe he has disappeared in the vortex of the Bermuda Triangle.

Melanie Brown is doing her dissertation as particle physicist on the Bermuda Triangle for her PHD and her work comes to a halt when her mother dies in a tragic tornado and she cannot get back on track. She is struggling and it’s been suggested that she see a therapist and when she starts working with Dr. Dean Robinson, it becomes more than therapy for her, it becomes love. The two start a relationship in secret as it is unethical for the two to be together. Things start to unravel and it becomes a tragic relationship.

In the coming years, Olivia with start a new life, but Meline Brown will soon become a vital piece in the puzzle that is Dean and the next twenty years will tell a tale of mystery, pain, and a new/old love and what really happened on that fateful day when the world changed for Oliva.

I loved this book. I could not put it down once I started. Julianne MacLean has written a book that is, in my opinion, the best book she has ever written. It was like doing a puzzle and some of the pieces were in the right place and others would not fit, until it was almost done and you found that right piece to put it all together. Who was the real Dean Robinson and did he really disappear in the mysterious Bermuda Triangle? You will have to read the book to find out. This book has romance, that will make you sigh and shed a few tears, mystery and intrigue all put together that will keep the reader turning the page to find out what happens next in the lives of Oliva, Dean and Meline.

Well done Julianne Maclean you have written a 5+++ star book.

Thanks to Netgalley, and the publisher of Beyond the Moonlite Sea for giving me the opportunity to read and review this amazing book by Julianne MacLean.

Julianne MacLean writes stories that are so well crafted that you can hardly put the book down. Beyond the Moonlit Sea that engaged me from page one all the way through the end. The story has a lot of puzzle pieces. You have to get all the way to the end to get the whole picture. The story is very thought provoking. It stuck with me long after completing it. I enjoyed the book as I have all the others by this author. I received an advance copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I really enjoyed this book! The author did an amazing job with the storyline and characters, especially main character, Olivia. My heart broke for her when the love of her life, Dean, went missing. I also enjoyed how the book was laid out where the reader learns more about past events, alternating with chapters describing the current time period. The connection discovered between Melanie and Olivia (along with some other connections) was definitely a shocker. I also found it very interesting to learn more about Dean's past. This book is definitely worth reading.

Thank you to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for providing a copy for review.

This book was a good read. Not what I was expecting. It's a total combination of different genres. Family dysfunction, suspense, mystery, romance, and grief. Thank you to Net Galley, the Publishers and the author for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

This is the perfect summer read! Julianne MacLean has done it again: she’s created a story that draws you in from the very beginning, takes you down a couple roads that end up intersecting, and then leaves you completely satisfied by the end.

Highly recommend!

This was my first book by Julianne MacLean and I really enjoyed both the story and the writing style. Told from 3 POVs, I thought the plot flowed quite easily and kept my interest.

The story begins with Melanie Brown starting to see a therapist to explore her grief over her mother's death, shifts to her therapist and then to Olivia Hamilton, who is married to Dean Robinson, psychologist turned pilot. The author weaves many plot twists into the book, as well as themes of grief, trauma, medical ethics and others. While some may guess the main plot twist which incorporates the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle, it still makes for great reading.

Many thanks to Lake Union Publishing and NetGalley for this advanced copy. I look forward to reading other books by Julianne MacLean!

Beyond the Moonlight Sea is both mystery and romance. When Olivia meets Dean they quickly fall in love and soon marry. Dean was a grief therapist unhappy with his career and decides to become a pilot, a childhood dream. One night his plane disappears over the Bermuda Triangle and he is never found. Olivia is heartbroken and eventually returns home to New York. What follows are a series of interesting twists and turns with a very surprise ending. I received an advanced readers copy in exchanges for my honest review.

Loved it!! I loved Julianne MacLean's previous books and was excited to read this. It didn't disappoint. There were so many unexpected twists and turns. I enjoyed how the book alternated between Melanie, Dean and Olivia. Let's talk about Melanie. She seemed semi normal during her therapy lessons, although her thesis seemed a bit far fetched. How much can you really find out about a person in a few hour long sessions? Especially if that person doesn't show the therapist their true self!!!! Melanie became a completely different person from the Melanie Dean met in therapy. Dean knew what he was doing was wrong from the start. He gave all the power to Melanie and she could ruin his whole career. So pretty much he felt stuck. Now there's Dean. He should have broken it off with Melanie right away and faced the consequences. Also call the cops when someone dies, don't try to hide the evidence. You know there is something wrong with you, when you are hiding dead bodies. Dean always ran away from his problems. At first, I wasn't a huge fan of Olivia, after the little temper tantrum she threw about Dean having to work and make money to support them, instead of going to dinner with her mom and sister, She pretty much never worked a day in her life or had to to worry about money. The story was not what I expected, especially the ending, but I loved it. Rose testing her DNA added to the mystery of what really happened over the Bermuda Triangle.

Definitely recommend the book. I enjoyed the characters, story and writing style. There's romance and mystery. There's always questions when someone mysteriously vanishes, especially when the Bermuda Triangle is involved. The story definitely turned into something I wasn't expecting, in a good way. Look forward to reading more books by the author. Love the cover of the book.

Beyond the Moonlit Sea by Julianne MacLean. This book is everything you could want in a light read. It was original and contained likable, well-drawn characters. This was my second book by this author and I will definitely read more because they fill a cozy niche: More than a standard romance because she includes intriguing plot elements that keep your mind working to figure out what's going to happen! Bonus: I always appreciate finding women-in-STEM characters.Thank you to #netgalley, the author (a Nova Scotian) and #LakeUnion books for the opportunity to preview this novel before its publication, in return for an honest review. Publication date is June 14.

What do you know for sure? What Olivia knew for sure about Dean was that he loved her and that he was a survivor. After being together for four years, she was very sure…until she wasn’t.

Do you have any regrets? Dean sure did. At times he was dealing with a tangled mass of regrets, regrets that would cloud his judgment, causing even more regrets. How would his life enfold?

This novel is cleverly written from three points of view…Olivia’s, Dean’s and Melanie’s. Each point of view is seamlessly woven together to tell a beautiful, satisfying story. It was filled with twists and turns which kept me reading and guessing.

While part of the storyline involved the mysteries of the Bermuda Triangle, there was another triangle of sorts…the triangle of Olivia, Dean and Melanie. The deep development of each character drew me into their lives.

Many ingredients went into telling this much enjoyed story. There was romance and passion, while some of the passion led to unhealthy obsessions. There was also mystery, suspense, grief and healing, along with dysfunction and family drama.

I loved the ending! So very satisfying and so very good!

I received complimentary copies of this book from Lake Union Publishing and NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

This story follows several people through their lives and loves, but they all become intertwined in the end. This was a story of romance, loss, mystery, friendship, and finding hope again. I wasn’t sure what to expect with this story, and I have to admit I didn’t know where it was heading at first. I ended up thoroughly enjoying it, and the twists and turns along the way! I was fortunate enough to receive a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

Beyond the Moonlit Sea is categorized as book club fiction, but it is so much more! It is a mystery, a romance, and could even be categorized as historical fiction as it takes place from 1986-2017.

This is my second read by Julianne MacLean. I loved her last release, These Tangled Vines. Although I did not think it was possible, I love Beyond the Moonlit Sea even more! Julianna MacLean’s books draw you in from the start, her characters are well-developed, and her plots are unique. What a great combination!

MacLean’s latest novel is told from the viewpoints of her three main characters: Melanie, Dean, and Olivia. Melanie is a doctoral candidate and one of Dean’s clients. Olivia, a young film writer born into money, is introduced to Dean, a man with a troubled past, who has agreed to answer questions for her latest documentary.

Beyond the Moonlit Sea addresses some strong issues such as loss, toxic relationships, loneliness, abuse, and dealing with grief. It also focuses on love, hope, and finding your true self. It is an intriguing book that will keep you thinking about it long after you have read it. What a fabulous book!

Thank you, NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing, for the ARC in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions listed above are my own.

This story begins when Olivia's pilot husband Dean disappears while flying over the Bermuda Triangle. It takes a long time for Olivia to cope with what has happened and continue with her life. Book spans from 1986 to 2017. There are three narrators. Melanie who studies the Bermuda Triangle in 1986, Olivia's husband Dean and Olivia herself. The main focus is on Olivia and her story.
This book is very well written and the subject matter is truly absorbing. I especially enjoyed the portrayal of the time passing and how it influenced the narrative. I gladly witnessed Olivia becoming the woman she is in the end of the book. All questions are answered in the end and the conclusion is satisfying.

Julianne MacLean crafts another engaging, mysterious and suspenseful read with “Beyond the Moonlit Sea.” Once I started this book, I had to keep reading as there is a strong need to know with some pretty big mysteries in the book. My mind would not rest, this novel stayed in my head long after completed. MacLean went in directions I never saw coming and kept me guessing at each turn. There is a beautiful romance, but a lot of hard, gritty, tough family dynamics as well, and I liked how the author humanized her characters, showing us their flaws and shortcomings. I think after finishing this book, I appreciate life and the good relationships in it even more.

Olivia Hamilton marries Dean Robinson, she doesn’t care that her elderly father doesn’t approve and the newlyweds move to Miami. Dean changes professions, he’s now a pilot and he flies private jets. When Dean’s plane vanishes over the Bermuda Triangle, he’s the only one aboard and Olivia’s shocked and devastated. The official verdict is announced, despite this Olivia still holds onto some hope, as time goes on she has to accept Dean’s gone and moves on with her life.

Melanie Brown is a particle physicists who’s doing her research dissertation at Columbia University on the Bermuda Triangle, when her mother dies in a tragic accident, she loses interest in her work and she begins seeing a therapist. Melanie starts to look forward to her weekly therapy appointments, she forms an attachment to her therapist, they begin a secret love affair and he’s committed a serious breach of medical ethics.

Years later a shocking discovery links Olivia, Dean and Melanie. The man Olivia loved, married and mourned may have been lying to her and surly Dean wouldn’t have faked his own death and why?

I received a copy of Beyond the Moonlit Sea from NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing in exchange for an honest review. Told from multiple points of view, it’s an entwined and tangled tale about love, loss, grief, and the effects of childhood trauma, social status, pressure, responsibility and work have on the characters. The story uses the odd occurrences that happen at the Bermuda Triangle to add mystery and suspense to the narrative and it worked for me. This is the third book I have read by Julianne MacLean, I thoroughly enjoyed the light romantic thriller and four stars.
