Oh, these were so great new additions to the series! This series has such a cool concept, of law enforcement officers who solve crimes with the help of the ghosts that they can see, as well as the romances that they have along the way, and I enjoy each installment! Plus there's dogs, and this year's trilogy is focused on these triplets, that was fantastic!

These two books are connected by the Embracer killings, and Mark and Ragnar are partners investigating. So that was interesting to see it carry over from one book to the next, that was something new for this series (when there was also a new couple for each book!)

Colleen's unique talent came in handy, being able to hear these kidnapped victims in her head. That helped get some clues that eventually helped solve the case, which was really great! And I loved their romance, of how he didn't want to work with her, but realized his mistake!

Aura of Night, I felt so badly for Megan. For her employers to ask her to write about her experiences, that was a tough situation, but her reasoning for doing so was great. And oh, I loved her and Ragnar, they were a great team investigating this mystery!

I had a great time with these books, and I can't wait for more!

I got excited when I saw a book for Heather Graham on NetGalley and hit the request button and was approved, only to learn that it was book #36 in the Krewe of Hunters series. They should really mention things like that in their descriptions. I have not read a single book previously in the series but decided to give this a go. The first time I attempted to read it, I put it down and decided not to review it. But then I decided to give it the old college try and picked it up again.

I tried to get into the book and keep an open mind, but as other reviewers have mentioned, the writing failed to wow me. I have enjoyed Heather Graham in the past, but just didn't feel a connection to the book, characters or her writing this time.

Others who have read the series, have posted reviews so please read those as they would have more insight into the characters, character development and series than I do.

This gist is women are being taken in Virginia and FBI agent Mark Gallagher and rookie Colleen Law team up to solve the case. Colleen can hear the voices of the victims in her head and she and Mark are close to solving the case, and they are lured to wooded rural Virginia.......

Again, please read the reviews of those who have read the entire series.

I received a copy of this book from HARLEQUIN - Romance (U.S. & Canada), MIRA and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

Sound of Darkness focuses on Colleen, who can hear the victims of a serial killer in her head. While Colleen and FBI Agent Mark are getting close to the killer, Colleen's sister Megan gets kidnapped. And even when they think they have things figured out, it turns out the "Embracer" isn't what or who they thought. Colleen and Mark fall in love and when they think they have closed the case and everyone is safe, they take off for a honeymoon. The book was interesting because this isn't any typical killer. Colleen's talent is essential to figuring out what is going on, and while Mark didn't want to be saddled with a new agent initially, he catches feelings for Colleen pretty quick.

This one gave me nightmares but it was so good. I mean who needs to be able to sleep when your reading a page turning book?

Well, I've only read the 1st 2 books in the Krewe of Hunters series and skipped right to the 36th. Some things never change. Still loved it and am totally ready for the next one! 😉

Alright readers, this is another case of “do as I say, not as I do” when it comes to reading books in order. Even though I knew that this was the 36th book in the Krewe of Hunters series, I knew from the description that it was one of those books I just had to read. In my defense, I did pick up Phantom Evil and Heart of Evil (the first two books in the series) before I read Heart of Darkness – just to get myself familiar with the world and some of the back story. I obviously still have a lot of catching up to do, but that’s not a problem, because I’m now officially hooked.

Heart of Darkness was an intense read, so there wasn’t much down time. Colleen had the ability to hear the kidnapped victims that had been buried alive. Mark was pretty skeptical, but it didn’t take him long to figure out that her gift was real and could be a powerful asset in finally finding the elusive killer. It also didn’t take him long to figure out that there was a powerful attraction between the rookie agent and himself.

Heart of Darkness had pretty much everything I love about romantic suspense – including a paranormal twist. The characters were witty, the dog (Red) was one of my favorite characters and there was just enough romance and danger to keep things interesting. I probably should continue catching up with the previous books in the Krewe of Hunters series, but given the connection between Heart of Darkness and Aura of Night, I’m pretty sure that backtracking is going to be delayed. 😉

Good story with an abundance of serial killers. As always, the characters are lovable, everyone falls in love and get married.

Excitement, suspense, thrills are all plentiful in this story. The twists and turns keep you turning pages. I couldn't put it down.

How did I miss the rest of this series! Mark Gallagher is an FBI agent for a task force in the agency and they are hunting a killer who has been dubbed The Embracer. He and his partner, Ragnar, along with his dog, Red, rescue a woman from a home where think they actually caught The Embracer. As they are leaving he gets a call to pick up his newest partner, a rookie, Colleen Law. She has abilities to "hear" victims both before they are dead and right after. Along with Red they narrowly find the next victim in a shallow grave literally seconds before she dies. Now they have two victims, one killer, many questions, and so many twists and turns. Oh, and did I forget to tell you a ghost lead them to the door of the first victim? Yep, he was a police officer killed in the line of duty and still searching for answers. That story still needs to be solved. Again, how did I miss this series before?

I was honestly shocked by how badly written this was, especially as it was supposedly by a NYT bestselling author. It seemed so amateur and cringey that I looked up the book and found out it's number 36 in a series. Clearly this author is either dialing it in or has hired really badly paid ghost writers (no pun intended).

The premise is that these cops all have supernatural abilities and have things like ghost cops that come and tell them where the bad guys are. I just could not make myself go very far in this book. I don't mind the paranormal aspect at all. I love a good ghost story. It was just too poorly written and unless there's cash involved I'm not wasting that many hours of my life on a book I dislike this much. My children write better books than this. It would be one star for me but I'm adding a star since it was a DNF and so I'll add a star in apology.

I read a digital ARC of this book for review.

Heather Graham immerses the reader in the disappearance and murder of women in Virginia in the Sound of Darkness, a Krewe of Hunters mystery. FBI agent Mark Gallagher and his partner Colleen Law who can hear the victims in her head are getting close to identifying the Embracer, the mass psychopathic killer. Terror and danger lurk in the background and the agents need to use their special talents to find and stop the perpetrator. Excellent thriller with psychic twist.

This is a great book to read for relaxing on a weekend, despite it being creepy and suspenseful. The Krewe of Hunters series are easy to buy because you know they'll be good.

Not my favorite in this series. It was a good story, but just didn't keep my interest as much as it had in the past.

So good. Storyline moved along and was excellent. Characters were portrayed just right to fit the story. Heartily recommend this book.

Once again, Heather Graham had delivered a great, spooky, ghost-filled novel in the Krewe of Hunters series! One day read!

SOUND OF DARKNESS will have you literally holding your breath a few times! If the man they caught isn't the real killer then who among all the characters could it be. The historian, the rich boyfriend, the musician ex-boyfriend or did they have the right guy in the first place?

My Rating: 2.5 stars out of 5

Let me start right in by saying that this one was not for me. Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that when I requested to read this one, it was not disclosed that it was in fact book number thirty-six in an established series, and therefore I missed all of the other stories detailing Mark and his "abilities".

Or perhaps it had something to do with the fact that I wasn't expecting them to be getting help from ghosts. Sure I've read a book a time or two where someone has an uncanny "knack" for figuring things out, whether it be a "gut feeling", or in some cases a "sixth sense", but this is the first time it's been more of a paranormal story than a police story.

I'm also still unsure as to why it's called a "Krewe" instead of a Crew when "Krewe" is literally defined in the dictionary as " an organization or association that stages a parade or other event for a carnival celebration. Krewes are associated especially with Mardi Gras in New Orleans"

Now, overlooking these things. I found the writing to be solid if a bit disjointed with the points of view switching in the middle of chapters without warning. I even thought the characters were well fleshed out (even the background characters), although I have to say I caught on to who the killer was pretty quickly. However, this novel (for me at least), also dragged on unnecessarily and lacked that spark to keep me as a reader engaged. Instead of being glued to the pages to find out what happened next, I found it all too easy to put this one down, go do my dishes or clean my house, and then come back to it. Or read it right before bed to help me sleep which is certainly not the intention of the author I'm sure.

Overall, I'm sure there are still people who will enjoy this novel. Whether they are established readers of this series, or like a more paranormal aspect to their stories. And while this series wasn't for me, I would be willing to give this author another shot down the road.

DISCLAIMER: I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the publisher. This has not affected my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are 100% my own.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I haven't read may Heather Graham books, and I think this might be the first one I've read in this series. That's ok because the book stands alone just fine! I didn't think I was missing any important backstory. I enjoyed the premise of the book: investigations, paranormal activity (ghosts), and a little romance. The dialogue between the characters was a little distracting, though. The author uses a lot of exclamations, even with male characters, and it was a little excessive. I kept imagining that everyone was So! Excited! All the time!

Fun read!

I always know that a Krewe book will be a good read, and this was no different. I liked Mark and Colleen, but Red stole the show. I can't wait for the rest of the triplets.
