This book is great! Would definitely recommend. Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

OK, this was crazy but I loved it. The perfect pre-Halloween read. I can see why some readers might be rolling their eyes but I was here for the ride and really enjoyed the way the story wrapped up. I definitely did not see the sharp turn coming in the plot, and the narrative took a whole new path about 70% of the way through, which in my opinion makes for a great horror/thriller.

I thought I had reviewed this one already, but you what I love Sager's books and I don't mind leaving a few words to encourage y'all to read him.
As with many of Sager's book they open like a gun shot! Your blindsided, taken aback by the eerie introduction, followed closely by a shock to your system as he revs up your heart.
I liked this one a lot. It was creepy, often befuddling and completely left field for him. Unlike some of his others Last House takes you down the paranormal path, our narrator is unreliable, things are going down and you're constantly questioning them. This one was right up there with some of my faves!

Riley Sager's latest psychological suspense thriller is infused with echoes of Rear Window, it features widowed actress, Casey Fletcher, a woman struggling to cope, taking to the demon drink to escape her pain and misery, only find her life slipping out of her control, sacked from her last production. Her torrid downward spiral is captured by the media, this is exacerbated by unsympathetic coverage on social media, this leads to her famous movie star mother pushing her to to take up residence in the family home, for the peace and quiet, at the atmospheric Lake Greene in Vermont, under the mistaken belief that alcohol will be harder to obtain there. The lakehouse does not provide the much hoped for solace, but armed with her binoculars and the inevitable drink, she finds her interest snagged by the couple in the house across the lake. They are the wealthy tech businessman, Tom Royce, and his beautiful wife, the former model Katherine.
The glamorous perfect couple's facade begins to fray when Casey ends up rescuing Katherine from drowning in the lake. The two woman start to get to know each other as they edge towards becoming friends, but when Katherine disappears, given what she has observed, Casey is suspicious at this turn of events. This propels her to seek the truth as she investigates in this intriguing narrative with its twists, there are odd happenings, and the novel ends up venturing into surprisingly unexpected territory. This is a fast paced and entertaining psychological drama, there is the requisite unreliable narrator, but it does require a suspension of disbelief to get the most out of it. I recommend this to Sager fans and to others who enjoy psychological thrillers. Many thanks to the publisher for an ARC.

My first Riley Sager and not my last! Twists/turns throughout - different character points of view added an element of enjoyment to see/try to figure out where each was "coming from"

Why is it so hard for this man to write women? It's like he took it as a personal challenge to see how badly he could fail the Bechdel Test. This book really wanted to be Rear Window with a supernatural twist, but neither one was done well. The MC's alcohol addiction was poorly done as well. Did not sit well with me at all.

I'm really surprised so many people disliked this one. Maybe it's because I had super low expectations from reading all the bad reviews, but I thought this was a fun, fast-paced read! The twists are what made it super fun. The twists were a part of the typical Riley Sager formula where you get a twist of a twist. I know people don't like that, but it's his thing and I don't mind it.
Also, I think a lot of people didn't like the way things went towards the end of the book, but I thought it was what made the book fun! I really recommend keeping an open mind while reading it. It's also the perfect read if you're in a reading slump and looking for a fun book!

As I get more and more into thrillers, I find that some authors wait until the last minute to throw curveballs at you and then other authors, like Riley Sager build twists and turns into their character development so even when you think you know what's really going on, you really don't. I am a new Riley Sager fan because of this book. I read it before it got published and I have since recommended it to everyone I know because the story has you on the edge of your seat from the beginning. I sincerely like Casey as a character even though she is flawed and the interactions between her and Katherine lead to so many questions. I immediately thought I knew what happened to Casey and as characters are introduced, it leads to so many other directions. If you are newly trying to get into thrillers or you need a change from the normal tropes, you should read this book!

This was my least favorite of Sager’s. It’s about a woman that has recently lost her husband and she goes off to her family’s Lake House to recover from both the loss and her alcoholism.
She sees some things happen at the house across the lake and becomes entangled in their lives

This copy was kindly provided to me by Netgalley and the publisher for review. All opinions are my own.
I have to say this is not the Riley Sager book to listen to the audio version of. A narrator can make or break a audiobook and this time it failed. The narrator sounded like a older woman and it conflicted greatly with the character being in her 30s.
The overall story was pretty good. I couldn't get around the main characters alcoholism though it makes some sense during the climax/.revelations (that I didn't see coming). I did not know going into this either that there would be a paranormal aspect to the story and in the end I wish Sager had dived deep (pun intended) into it, expanded and given us more.
Overall, recommend if you are looking for a easy to read, fast thriller/mystery.

this book is giving the woman in the window and layla all wrapped up in a paranormal spooky cozy vermont blanket — i loved the twist and the twists kept twisting !!!

I didn't mind the idea of the story - a somewhat unreliable, nosy, and isolated woman spying on her neighbours - but hated the whole possession / paranormal angle. I probably wouldn't have read this book if I had known that was the progression. In my opinion, this wasn't so much of a twist as a bait and switch, which really ruined the book for me.

To be honest I was only giving this book a chance to see if there is a book by the author that I might actually like because I’m fairly certain I haven’t liked any of the books I’ve read so I should have known better. Didn’t like this one either, I won’t be reading anymore Riley Sager books.

3.5 stars! Next to the other Riley Sager book I've read Lock Every Door this fell a tiny bit flat. But I will say I loved the setting of this story on the lake and the characters. I found Casey being a struggling actress and Katherine being a model really fun to read about. The whole cast of characters I enjoyed I just didn't connect or really care about them like I would've liked. This is Riley Sager after all so of course I thought this was well written and nicely paced.
Not my favorite thriller ever but it was a quick read with a fun mystery!

Oh Riley Sager, why did you have to go and do that? Anyone who knows me knows I am a huge fan of Sager and will forever read his books. More often than not, I adore them, and they take me on a wild ride like no other. Well, The House Across the Lake certainly does that, but between Casey's excessive drinking (The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window anyone?) and the ridiculous twist, I just could not get behind this one. It also probably didn't help that that audiobook was truly terrible. I don't know who chose Bernadette Dunne to be the narrator, and goodness I hope it wasn't Sager, but they need to be fired. As a narrator for another book, she would be amazing and there is NOTHING wrong with her, but for this book? absolutely not. She sounds way too old to be Casey, and because of that was just another reason this book was ruined for me.
Knowing what I know now about the twist and the audiobook, I may end up trying to read The House Across the Lake as opposed to listening to it and see if that helps my feelings towards it. If you take out the most unbelievable twist I've ever seen and Casey's drinking to excess, the rest of the story was quite interesting to me. It was fun watching her spy on her wealthy neighbors and I was really into the mystery surrounding Katherine's disappearance. The amateur female sleuth is one of my favorite tropes and Casey is one that just won't quit. I am also a huge fan of the illustrations in the physical book and thought they were a nice touch. While I may not have loved this one, there are plenty of people who did, so I highly recommend READING (not listening), and finding out for yourself what all the fuss is about.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I keep reading Riley Sager thinking this one is going to be like my favorites, and it's never quite hitting the right notes for me

The plot twists just wouldn't stop coming omg. I think at first this was giving me Woman in The Window vibes with the whole nosey neighbor looking into another home but the way the events transpired I was at the edge of my seat. Also I'm all for any book that starts with a Taylor Swift lyric.

Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book.
I think this is my third Riley Sager book, and like the others they have an interesting plot and are easy to read and follow.
I found the setting and characters interesting in this story, but it went in a different direction that completely threw me off and lost me a bit.

The House Across The Lake
By Riley sager
I am a huge Riley Sager fan and usually I will not stop reading once I start, but with this book I kept on putting it off.
I hate to DNF a book, because I am a moody reader and think it’s me and not the book, but I just could not get myself to pick this up and finishing other thrillers.
I finally had to finish this book and though it was thrilling and the writing well done, the story just was not exciting enough for me and quite predictable, and Sager has written such amazing thrillers, I was quite surprised with this one.
However, I still love Sager and will read anything he writes.
I think thriller fans will enjoy this, it may just not have been for me.

Thank you for my early copy. I am such a huge fan of Riley saver and The Last Time I Lied is one of my favorites, but this one just didn’t live up. It was a very slow burn book for me. I wanted to love it, but it took me way too long to finish. The last 1/4 was really good though and the reason for raising my 2 star to 3 star. This just sadly wasn’t for me.
