I could not get pass 10%. From the beginning we are told the future so we know that they are married but the hero is so despicable and the heroine is a mix of naïve and airhead. It should take a miracle to redeem themselves.
A reader should never have to force himself/herself to read a book. If I run out of anything ese to read, I might try again and if it changes, will revise the review, but this book is just not promising.
Thanks Netgalley for the free copy in exchange of an honest review.

Lady Emma st john is called back to the school she went to when she was young. Her schoolmistress is sick. When she gets there memories come back to her she stops by a tree where her and her friends made a comment to each other then she goes into the school. When she gets into her schoolmistress's sick room the schoolmistress ask her to tell her a story about how she meet her husband. she goes back to her memories. Andrew Baren st john is almost broke. He sweet talks women into giving him money but it's not because he gambles it away as soon as he gets. Emma Hunter is a young school girl who's father gave her hand to an man old enough to be her grandfather. She will marry him in january when she is finished with her schooling. Andrew over hears her saying her family has a lot of money which isn't true her friend asked to pretend that she was rich and what she would do with it. Baren st john doesn't know this and decides to woo her. this book is really good

Miss Emma Hunter hasn't forgotten the kiss from Andrew, Lord St. John, known as the Baron of Rake Street. Of course he was drunk at the time, but that doesn't matter to Emma. It was still a kiss. Andrew is bankrupt.
He is a hopeless gambler, liar and a thief. Not so honorable until his life starts to change when he meets Emma. But their relationship is built on lies and Emma is promised to another man. With the help of Miss Rutley and Lord Walcott the prince may save the princess.
Andrew is not my favorite character for most of the book. To immature and selfish. His schemes and lies absolutely made me cringe. Emma has stars in her eyes. I had to remind myself she is a protected young lady without a lot of knowledge of the real world. All of that gradually changes, thank goodness!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

A woman he overhears at a party boasting of her family’s wealth.
A woman who can change his life forever if she can believe just one little lie.
A woman named Miss Emma Hunter…
Lord St. John’s reckless ways at the Rake Street Gaming Hell has driven his estate to near bankruptcy. In desperation, Andrew relies on his one saving grace—charm. With each sweet kiss and tender whisper of love, he convinces naïve, wealthy women to part with both jewelry and coin. Still falling short, Andrew sets his sights on a beautiful young lady who apparently comes with the largest dowry he’s ever known.
The man whose great wealth can purchase her hand.
The man who can save her heart if he believes just one little lie.
A man named Andrew St. John, whose charm she cannot resist.
Miss Emma Hunter never forgot her introduction to the infamous Baron of Rake Street. The kiss he’d demanded left her breathless—and stole her heart. Unfortu-nately, her father has promised her hand to another, so any notion of love with An-drew is just a dream. But when Lord St. John requests to call on her, he makes her believe dreams can come true.
From seedy gaming hells to abandoned castles, Andrew is running out of time to right the wrongs of his past. Now the problem is not only his near-ruined estate, but the growing feelings he has for Emma. To win her heart, he must tell the truth.
A liar and a cheat is what Andrew is. Emma is lying too. Her father is not as rich as purported.
This is an interesting romance by Jennifer Monroe.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley. This in no way affects my opinion of this title which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

Basic plot: Set in 1825, Mrs. Rutley runs a school for young girls and some of them have been called back for a visit. When Emma, Lady St. John arrives, she is asked to tell the story of how she and her husband met. Chapter 1 proceeds to begin the tale of how they met.
Rating: 3/5
What I have to say: While I enjoyed reading this story, I had a hard time getting into the plot. The characters were written well and the way they interacted was fine. I would recommend reading if you like Historical Romances and author Jennifer Moore!
Thank you to NetGalley and Wolf Publishing for granting me permission for an advanced copy (ARC) of this book!
