This book epitomizes the phrase "fact is stranger that fiction." If this were a novel I would mark the author down for not being realistic but this is real life! Browder crafts this story of murder, intrigued, and corruption into a fast paced book that's very difficult to put down. Fantastic.

I was a big fan of Browder's Red Notice a few years ago so was fascinated to learn more about him and how he got to the place of fighting with and for Sergei Magnitsky. Through short chapters, Browder lays out the details and the steps he went through to get the Magnitsky Act in front of government leaders around the world and the behind-the-scenes goings on as Putin and the Russian government try to track him down and capture him for airing their dirty laundry. The writing is clear and engaging, starting with his first interactions with the Chicago Police Department as a child and working through his eventful life in and after living in Russia and all of the people that impacted his fight for justice for Sergei and his own cases in court to assure his continued freedom. It is amazing to me that this whole story and Browder's fight for justice goes back to a flute. A big thank you to Simon & Schuster and NetGalley for the early access in exchange for my honest opinion. 4.5 stars

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC of Freezing Order by Bill Browder. This book immediately caught my eye because of reading Red Notice by Browder, which I found to be such an incredibly tragic story. Browder is an excellent writer and Freezing Order was no exception. This new continues to follow Browder as he is followed/trailed by those seeking to stop him from uncovering more of the truth concerning Putin. Although this could be read as a standalone, I do recommend reading Red Notice first.

This memoir really proves that sometimes, the truth can be stranger than fiction. Bill Browder's experience trying to trace $230 million from a corrupt tax refund scheme within Russia has so many twists and turns — from aggressive process servers tracking down Browder and his family on vacation to undercover honey traps trying to seduce him at conferences — that it could easily become the plot of a movie. I found myself unable to put the book down as Browder and his allies worked tirelessly to trace the illegally obtained funds through a complex network of shell companies. I highly recommend this book, even to readers who typically prefer suspenseful fiction over memoirs.

This is the story of Bill Browder, a man who dared to oppose Putin and the Russian oligarchs that are corrupt and stealing money, land, and anything else they can get their hands on. He is set to testify against them in Spain, when he is arrested. Thankfully, he sent out a Tweet that may have saved his life. This is the further story from him, about how he has been standing up to those that are corrupt in an effort to change how things work.

A companion piece to Red Notice though it easily stands on its own. The money laundering is amazing. What's going to happen when Putin dies? How many schemes will collapse? How many more will come to life?

Excellent read. Very well researched as we've come to expect from Bill Browder.

Great read ! I read and enjoyed Browder's Red Notice. This is a continuation of that story, or can be read alone and separately.
I enjoyed the financial investing and corruption elements of red Notice and this has less of that, which is fine, as the story con tines as Browder attempts to stay out of fire by Russian corrupt officials and Putin himself.
The book is especially pertinent now, as the Ukraine invasion is now 4 months along, and many times I was intrigued that as Browder lays out issues concerning Putin ( shooting down a passenger plane ), invading Georgia etc the story remains the same, just insert different places etc. UGH. Putin !
Well-written, well-researched. Highly recommend. I'm purchasing the hard copy for my husband to enjoy !

Don't mess with Putin!. That is what you will learn from this book. Putin will use anything and everything to stop you. It takes a strong man to keep going in the face of overwhelming odds. Money laundering on this scale is hard to imagine. This is a fast paced interesting read. It will open your eyes to how the world according to Putin works. I would recommend reading this book.

Thank you to #netgalley and @Simon&Schuster for a copy of this book.

Loved reading this amazing, incredible and teeth grinding story. There were times I thought “my gosh, how could this get worse.” What a story!

I read the first book Red Notice, over two years ago thinking by now the story might have reached a crest and would fade away. In the intervening years from the timeline of Red Notice, even more unbelievable things occurred and are documented here. It’s terrifying and infuriating and most of all a great read. Highly recommend! You can read this without reading the first book but why would you? Buy both! Murder, unfortunate and tragic, but also lies, deception, manipulation of the US legal system, betrayal, intrigue, and trying to fight the good fight. I love this book and also hope that he never gets the material for another book because real life can be and is stranger and more tragic than fiction.

"Freezing Order" is another powerful book from Bill Browder. Following his first bestseller was a tall order, but this was really a necesssary offering to update those of us who have wondered what happened in his battle with Putin and the Russian authorities once his initial story ended.

"Red Notice" left Browder's fans cheering him on in a "one man vs. a nation" thriller. His latest book tells what happened. The story gets only more complicated and the battle more intense.

If you enjoyed "Red Notice", you need to get this book and learn the rest of the story.

I had read and enjoyed Bill Browder's first book, Red Notice, and I've listened to a lot of his interviews. Freezing Order is basically a continuation of the story. I remember being frustrated at some points in the first book with his naivety, even though it makes him more relatable. In Freezing Order, he is tougher and smarter. I'm sure it must be frustrating for his wife being married to someone so single minded, but we need people like this focused on specific complicated issues. The book is well written and exciting, a real life espionage thriller, and the subject is still playing out. I really hope Bill Browder is able to stay safe and continue alerting the public about these issues.

I couldn't put this book down, I had to know what happened next. Follow the incredible journey of Browder, trying to clear his Russian lawyer, Sergei Magnitsky, who was killed in a Moscow jail and his name from trumped up tax evasion charges levied by the Russian government. The resulting research in his defense led directly to the discovery of how Putin and his cronies are laundering money all over the world. His dedication to stay the course in the face of increasing pressure from Russia and its influence is commendable. Many people would have stopped when faced with the massive cover up and intimidation machine Russia directed at him and his friends. It is really scary to see how far Putin and his government will go to keep their secrets.

Bill Browder does not disappoint in this followup to Red Notice. Putin is still hounding him and Browder continues to champion the Magnitsky Act, to honor the memory of his employee and friend who was murdered for standing up to the Russian criminal infrastructure.

Thanks to Netgalley and Simon and Schuster for letting me read Bill Browder’s new book, which is a follow up to his earlier work, Red Notice. Like the earlier book, this is a thrilling and maddening tale of Browder’s work to get justice for his friend and colleague, to get the Magnitsky Act passed in the US and globally, and the Russians’ attempts to thwart him, including murdering some in his circle. This book would always have been a great read but it’s exceptionally timely with the war in Ukraine and the very recent arrest of Vladimir Kara-Murza, who figures prominently in the book. Highly recommend this even if you didn’t read Red Notice yet. And if you haven’t, read that one too!

I’ve been eagerly anticipating this book since I read Bill Browder’s jaw dropping debut book, Red Notice, in one sitting. I generally follow the news, so I know that Putin is a bad guy, but you don’t realize the total depravity of the Putin regime until someone like Browder writes about all of his atrocities in one tome.

This book is another incredible journey into the pits of Russian degeneracy, and the Russian government’s fight against the Magnitsky Act that Browder fought so hard to pass to vindicate the death of his friend and attorney, Sergei Magnitsky. Magnitsky exposed Russian corruption and misconduct alongside Browder and was subsequently tortured and killed by the regime. From the first chapter to the last, I was hanging on to the edge of my seat during the entire book, as Browder courageously tries to find out who was behind the spiderweb of money laundering and murder and why.

Browder is to be commended for his bravery in standing up to one of the worst human rights abusers in the world. What a different world this would be if we all displayed such courage. One of the most impactful takeaways from this book is that none of this could happen without western enablers and the acquiescence of timid and ineffective governments that refuse to follow their own laws and values. You can see this clearly today. Especially in light of current events, this book is a must read that takes a look the psyche of Putin and his horrific regime.

Many thanks to Simon & Schuster and Net Galley for this digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Can’t make this shit up. A timely pageturner that not only highlights the terrifying lengths that Putin will go to to protect his kleptocracy but also shows the susceptibility of American politicians to his propaganda. Unputdownable.

I think it’s helpful, but not necessary, to have read Browder’s prior book, Red Notice. But it does mean that the first section of this book will feel a bit repetitive.

In FREEZING ORDER, by Bill Browder, the reader is presented with an epic recounting of Browder's battle for justice then ends up with him enemy number one to Vladimir Putin. Browder shares stories of murder, fraud, espionage, and double-crosses that will truly amaze the reader. The book is about finding the truth, loyalty, and most of all finding justice for the murder of Browder's dear friend, Sergei Magnitsky.
Browder clearly has endless stories about his extraordinary life. He does an excellent job taking the reader through each step of his battle with those who are constantly trying to thwart him. There are a lot of names, mostly Russian, that float throughout the book and while I found myself have to look back often to clarify who each person is, Browder does as good of a job as possible of helping the reader to discern each person of relevance. Much of the subject matter in the book is clearly political, but Browder does his best to remain as factual and apolitical as he can, but he can't help but emote his true political feelings periodically.
If espionage thrillers are your favorite kind of book, you can't get much better than FREEZING ORDER. The action is nonstop and several times I was truly shocked at what happened to Browder and the people around him. I recommend this book to anyone who wants a adrenaline-filled roller coaster ride through the world of international intelligence and counterintelligence.

Quick Take: Bill Browder, an American hedge fund manager, fights against corruption in Russia by tracking the money and using the court system.

Freezing Order is Bill Browder’s second account of Russian conspiracy, corruption and cover up. This book can be read as a stand-alone, but I would recommend reading Red Notice, the book before this, first.

If you’re in Russia, trying to fight corruption will get you killed. Sergei Magnitsky found this out the hard way. Sergei Magnitsky was a Russian lawyer working with Browder to prove a corruption scheme to steam millions in taxes. Instead of working to root out the corruption, Russian officials put him in jail and eventually murdered him.

This book details Browder’s attempt to bring the corrupt Russian oligarchs to justice in a twisting true story. Money laundering is complex, “In a typical money laundering scheme, ownership is like a Russian Matryoshka doll. You open one shell company to find another, and that leads to another and another and so on.”

This was a timely read given the conflict in Ukraine. It really shows the corruption in Russia and how widespread it is. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about how Russia operates.

Freezing Order by Bill Browder I knew who Mr. Browder is but I have not read his previous book Red Notice. This book I believe is a continuation of the process to get passage by the US as well as Europe for the Magnitsky Act. This bill named in honor of Sergei Magnitsky who worked with Mr. Browder in Moscow and was killed in prison by the FSB. The bill would allow the US Government to freeze assets and prevent their entering the US belonging to people involved in crimes against humanity anywhere in the world. The primary focus has been on oligarchs from Russia. The Bill was passed in the US in 2012 and I believe by the EU in 2020.
It has not been easy and Mr. Browder a British citizen has been threatened and convicted in Russia on multiple occasions without defending himself. He is a hero.
But the real villains are not V. Putin and other autocrats around the world but good old American citizens willing to do the bidding of Putin for money. This book outlines some of these despicable characters as well as the actions of Mr. Trump, his children and followers. These people included lawyers one of whom has a name you can-not make up John Moscow to attempt to defend Russian oligarchs stealing of Russian Tax money and prevent the information to be placed into the record in a US court proceeding. The second was during the Putin, Trump press conference in Helsinki. This occurred after The Mueller report indicted 12 Russians for hacking into the Democrats server. Putin suggested he would be happy to have the US FBI interview these twelve in the US would send twelve people wanted by the Russians for questioning. These include Mr. Browder and former US Ambassador to Russia, Michael McFaul. Mr. Trump thought this was a great idea! It took well over a week for Mr. Trump to be talked out of this idea. This is a very good book to read unfortunately it will most likely not be read by those in the Fox Universe who should read about the collusion between money, Trump and Putin.

Bill Browder is a hero. Although a horrible loss was the impetus for Bill's nonstop work to expose Putin's Russia, he has succeeded in creating a number of blockades and stops to Russia's nefarious doings. Bill has been a target of Russia for years and has been held in jail and fears daily for his and the life of his friends and family.
