Such a cute book! Perfect for kids! I read this to my 3 year old niece and she loved it! I’ll be buying a finished copy for her! Highly recommend!

I love the illustrations and the message. In the beginning, Whitney always wins and sees that as the most important thing. By the end she realizes that teamwork and friendship can be much more rewarding.

Whitney Wins Everything is the second book in The Tiny Ninja Book series. Whitney is a young girl who turns everything into a competition, and wins every time. It gets to the point where her friends don't want to play with her and she doesn't get invited to a friend's party because they are going to have games. When she shows up for soccer, her coach tells her that they don't keep score, they play for fun, to be outside with friends. She doesn't like it because you won't know who wins. During a game, Whitney makes a decision that helps her realize that winning isn't everything and teamwork and having fun are important. Throughout the story, Whitney's "tiny ninja" tries to help her make better decisions. There is also a search and find aspect to the book with busy illustrations and the direction to find X number of ninjas. My grandchildren all enjoyed this one. The older two understood the message of having fun and not always having to win, the youngest loved trying to find the ninjas. They have listened to this story a few times, and my oldest grandson has proudly read it to his younger siblings.

This is a story about a little girl who loves winning and feels like winning is most important. Whitney is upset when she’s not invited to a birthday party because she will “win everything.” Later, at a soccer game, Tiny Ninja encourages Whitney to pass the ball, and Whitney finally realizes there are more important things than winning!

This is a sweet story that helps teach little readers about the importance of teamwork and friendship. I was an incredibly competitive little girl, so I think it’s also a great lesson for tiny perfectionists in order to remind them that winning isn’t everything. My 4-year-olds loved the story and bright illustrations. They also really loved searching for tiny ninjas!

This book is well-written, with a relatable story and an overall good message. The illustrations are lively and detailed and will definitely hold kids' attention. There is a seek-and-find activity with Whitney's imaginary ninja friend that kids will likely enjoy.

That said, I'm reluctant to read a book to young girls that encourages them to tone down or squelch their competitive spirit and focus more on others' feelings instead of personal achievement. I'm also troubled that the consequence of Whitney being competitive was social exclusion--that's a pretty harsh price to pay. The "win" of this story comes from Whitney voluntarily giving up the opportunity to score the game-winning goal and instead, facilitating the opportunity for a less-skilled boy to score. Yes, inclusiveness and good sportsmanship are important and yes, not everything has to be a competition and there is value in playing to play, but girls get enough messaging to downplay their skills, to not compete hard, to "keep sweet" and to focus on others' needs at the expense of their own.

I would rather find a story that gets this point across without subtly adding to message that girls shouldn't focus on winning and girls should sacrifice their achievements to support boys. I'm absolutely NOT saying this was the author's intent or message, but, unfortunately the visual reinforces that narrative. I wouldn't want to even take the risk of a kid inadvertently absorbing that kind of idea.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review.

I received this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Whitney is me. I am Whitney. I love to win. Competition is fun. But Whitney takes it too far. Everything for her is about winning. Not having fun. I love her ninja (a voice like her conscience). It had great examples of working together and doing things to enjoy them, not to win.

This was a fun book, with the added bonus of finding a certain number of "tiny ninjas" on various pages. It was a great story about not having to "win" everything, with her tiny ninja playing the role of her conscience. The pages were packed full of fun illustrations.

My 3 & 7 year olds really enjoyed this book - both understood the message that life isn't always about competing and that it is important to include others and have fun. It was the perfect read for my 7 year old, in his world everything is a competition right now and it is driving me batty! Ha! My only quip is, it would've been nice to show Whitney losing at something, but still having fun. Great illustrations, great book!

This book was FULL of great life lessons for children. Especially ones who are competitive and love winning! I love how the author shows the meaning of having FUN and trusting others. About how winning is not always fun. My kids loved this book and we had a great discussion after about being a good friend and teammate. We will definitely be purchasing this book to refer back to.

This is so cute! I can definitely say there is always a “Whitney” among all our friends. I love that it teaches a lesson and the approach is not being judgy or accusatory. The illustrations are fun and appropriate. The story linenis easy to follow and makes a good bedtime story or any reading time experience for children!

This is a very sweet, colourful little story with a good moral at the centre - that winning isn't the most important thing. What's important is to enjoy yourself and encourage others, not compete with everyone over everything. It's very cutely done and the artwork is simply fantastic! A great book for young kids.

I loved the premise of this book: that winning isn't everything. This is something many kids struggle with, so it's helpful to have books to address it. However, the ending seemed counterintuitive because the team wins anyway. Maybe the lesson would have been better learned if Whitney lost but still had fun. I loved the seek and find component of the book, with the hidden ninjas. Overall very fun.

The title and cover art grabbed my attention for this book. We all know a kid (or adult) who is competitive and can't handle losing! The book was cute and explained playing just to have fun in a clear way for young readers. I loved the bright illustrations, they were vibrant and eye catching. I haven't read other books in the tiny ninja series and I could tell halfway through the book I was missing something. It seems like a great series to help little kids who are learning about their emotions...but out of context I wants quite sure who her tiny Ninja was and the meaning behind it.

I do love any book that can help children process their feelings or the world around them. Books have a much bigger impact on a child than hearing an adult explain things to them. A book like this would be a great teaching tool!

Thank you to NetGalley and Gatekeeper Press for an advanced copy.

This book was adorable. I really loved the illustration and the concept of the story. I felt it was written perfectly for the target audience. I also really liked how there were "mini games" in the story as well.

This book is lovely and it is exactly for kids who need to know winning isn't everything. Sometimes, we need to have fun and not turn every little thing into competition. A good book!
Thank you Netgallery for this book.

Whitney Wins Everything by Sasha Graham was a very cute picture and story book. Whitney learns to be a teammate and to let her friends help win at soccer. Also finds out that not everyone always wants to be with someone who wins at everything.

Thank you, Gatekeeper Press, for the advance reading copy.

I appreciate the concept of this storybook and I absolutely adore the illustrations.

However, I feel it is going to be a bit confusing for the target audience regarding the turn of events in the story.

A story about a young girl who sees everything as a competition and what she has to go through when she doesn't win. A good introduction of the concept I would say.
