I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect with this one but wow I got hooked in fast and it’s so cute! The art is cute and nicely drawn, and it’s nicely paced, though I was a little thrown by the sudden switch from characters at the very beginning!

I loved getting such an intricate look at the behind the scenes of making a manga, all the processes and how it all comes together. It was truly fascinating and hooked me in way before the romance aspect was introduced via Yoshida’s one sided crush on his longtime friend and manga artist.

It’s lighthearted and entertaining, kind of slice of life vibes and the romance will cause plenty of screeching because of all the near misses!

At the office, Hibiki Yoshida is as cool as a cucumber. He gets things done, pushes his employees to be their absolute best, and is more punctual than a pin cushion. But what he does outside of the office is a mystery to his coworkers, as every offer to grab a bite, a drink, or even a date is shot down immediately. Oh, if they only could see what Yoshida was attempting to do when he’s not in business mode…

A new series from debut author Shizuki Fujisawa, The Transcendent One-Sided Love of Yoshida the Catch showcases what our titular character does after he leaves the office. For you see, when he’s not working the office, he’s helping his childhood friend Sena Shimakaze with her manga series. Whether it’s inking or cooking for the assistants, Yoshida does it all, even without pay. His reason: he’s been in love with Shimakaze for a very long time, and it’s the only thing he can do to support her.

Some may be asking why Yoshida doesn’t just confess his feelings for Shimakaze. Well, on top of that making the story ridiculously short, it’s also because Shimakaze — master storyteller that she is — couldn’t read a romantic signal if it shot her in the face! Thus Yoshida struggles with Shimakaze’s needs and lazy mannerisms in order to keep her manga running without failure. And all of the assistants — including newcomer Rin Hanamori — just want to see Yoshida happy.

A lot of unpacking is needed when reading the first volume of The Transcendent One-Sided Love of Yoshida the Catch. On top of Shimakaze’s crazy weekly schedule, there’s every length that Yoshida goes in order to make sure she and the assistants get the job done without overdoing it. But it’s easier said than done when it comes to workers’ moral, as his regular job keeps him from the manga work until the evening. By that time, Maki, Takeshi, and Ryoya are already at their limit.

Thankfully, Yoshida’s positive attitude is what the team needs when they’re at their wits’ end. And while he’s in love with Shimakaze, it doesn’t mean she’s immune to getting a few lumps on her head for her stupidity. It’s a pairing that sees the personalities of the male & female leads being switched out, with Yoshida being the responsible one and Shimakaze being the ditzy one. It’s a nice twist for Yoshida the Catch, one that pays off with some solid comedic timing.

A great example of the solid timing occurs in Chapter Two, where the team needs to take a picture of two people kissing for reference. Maki gets it in her head to have Yoshida kiss Shimakaze, a perfect way to get the two childhood friends on the pathway of love. However, because of Yoshida’s self-consciousness, everything that could put a cork into the kissing process happens. It leads up to a solid punchline that’s both funny for the reader and slightly aggravating to Yoshida himself.

There is a lot of care that’s placed into the visual aesthetic of Yoshida the Catch. Fujisawa — despite it being their first manga — has the knack for bringing a beautiful and comedic look to this workplace rom-com. It brings to mind Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun, where the chats about attention to details in character discussions make their way to the overall look of the manga itself. How the characters look, their surroundings, and even the sillier reactions are drawn with care, sweetness, and enthusiastic vibrancy.

The Transcendent One-Sided Love of Yoshida the Catch has a great amount of potential. While it shares some similarities with other stories about creating manga, there’s a charm to our two leads that makes it a wonderful read. Although the three chapters in the first volume make it a short visit to Shimakaze’s studio, what The Transcendent One-Sided Love of Yoshida the Catch delivers in those stories will make anyone raring to return to see what happens next!

The Transcendent One-sided Love of Yoshida the Catch 1 was a good romance-comedy. I can even see its potential as an anime, really.

Here we have this hopelessly in love Yoshida, and the girl who never really looked at him as anything more than a friend. Seems a little tragic, right? But the way it was presented, I swear it was so funny.

It's also not boring at all, which is a quality I look for in every manga I read. So there you go, my 3.5 star review for this volume.

I guess my expectations were a bit wrong as to what that manga is. I did not expect it to be such a comedy manga, I thought it would be more of a classical love manga. I thought it was light and fun and had those comical moments. But overall it also just didn't stand out especially to me. I would recommend it, because I don't see why not, but I would recommend it more to those interested in humor than in romance.

This is such a cute simple manga about a guy who is seemingly perfect, handsome and successful but could not even confessed to his longtime crush, a manga artist. At first, i thought its gonna be focusing from the guy's perspective but we are actually looking from other people's perspective on this guy. Its fun reading the behind the scene of the life of manga artist and her assistants. Yoshida is the coolheaded leader of the assistant's team and all of them are supporting his crush on the girl who seriously dont realize her best friend is totally into her. She is so unique and weird, i love her.

If you want some light reading then pick this one up.

This is a really cute episodic manga. A light hearted quick read based around an aloof female MC who is a famous manga artist skillful at her work, but her personality is kind of free and careless. Whereas the introduction of Yoshida, a caring, managing and the sunshine of the manga. But with a shy and perfectionist yet lovely personality comes to rescue from time to time.
He is like an instant sweetheart to the readers and everyone looks up to him. Other characters make the manga lively and funny with their goal to unite Yoshida with the mangaka, because she's "The Transcendent One-Sided Love" of Yoshida, but she's so dense that she can't even notice the evident.
Overall, I really enjoyed the story and I think it could make a light-fun anime one day.

This manga was funny, how would you react if you loved someone that loved you as a friend, knowing that you were always there but not really understanding why you’re there, this is Yoshida life, he loves Shimakaze (the mangaka) since they were both in high school, but she never understood how much he loved her (totally clueless), and now his life is build in a way that every day after his day work he is around her to help her working on her manga’s, without pay because the company where he works do not allow that… yeah, poor guy, and that is half the fun of this manga, just try it out, its more fun than what I am letting out of the bag.

The biggest problem with this book is that there is no reason for there to be conflict in the first place. Chief is in love with Sensei. Both of them are single and they have had a positive friendship since childhood. There are (seemingly) no class differences, no friends/relatives that oppose their relationships nor anything else that would prevent him from at least bringing up the possibility of them being together. Yet Chief doesn’t confess his feelings because…? It’s just annoying that there is no explanation given for the Chief’s reluctance. Perhaps it would be more understandable if we saw what he was thinking, but the entire point of view for this comic comes from Sensei’s employees, all of whom are rooting for Chief and all of whom are as frustrated as the reader at the lack of progress in this relationship. The humor is good, but as a romance it is a bit lacking.

This might just be my new favorite series. It's charming as heck and I laughed out loud several times.
Poor Yoshida is so in love with his totally oblivious and scatterbrained mangaka best friend from childhood. Everyone seems to have noticed and be fully aware of this except for her and it leads to some adorably funny situations.
I'm 100% going to be following along with this one and can't wait to get my hands on the next volume.

Not bad, just typical. As the title implies, this story follows a man who is in love with a girl who doesn't recognize his feelings at all. Rather instead, she's in love with her work as a mangaka. We're told this through 3rd person perspectives, following the observers of the two characters (their manga assistants) rather than the two characters themselves. You immediately feel bad for the male character, seeing him put through a lot of struggle with someone who doesn't view him romantically in the slightest. Seeing such lack of emotional reaction from the female love interest not only makes me wonder why he likes her so much, but also makes me wonder if she's actually a human or a robot sent from space. There's potential in the story itself, but it doesn't pull me in. I'm a little tired of the meta mangas that show you the experience of being a mangaka.

This manga was so funny! Such a quick and delightful read if you enjoy romantic comedy shoujo mangas. Especially with a focus on the trope of opposites attract!

My first impression of this book was how well-drawn it is. It's good to look at and easy to read. The story flows nicely.

However, I expected from the description that this would have a more shoujo/romance flair to it, but instead it reads more like slap-stick. (The type you get when watching Japanese TV. That really works for some people, so if you're into that, then you'll like this.)

Nearly the entire book takes place in the mangaka's house and discusses making manga. If you're not into that, then this is going to move slowly despite the fun, but chaotic characters.

Hopefully the next book will move the story forward, rather than relying on gag comedy. Until then, I would say that this book sets up the characters and tone, but doesn't move much further beyond that.

An enjoyable read, I liked how the focus in on the male's love for woman who is oblivious of this fact. The art style is cute and I am looking forward to continuing with the series. I hope they end together sooner rather than later ahh

Yoshida is cool and popular among all the women that he works for at his company, but he only has eyes for one person. This person is Sena, an aloof down to earth manga artist that he works for part time after his corporate job just so he can help her out. This can be categorized as a workplace romance, grumpy/sunshine trope.

This first volume made me fall in love with the characters and their humorous antics. It made me want to keep reading!

The story was a short easy read, the art was great and it was funny but overall the plot was not intriguing and kind of dissapointing. It was boring, as there was little to no plot and i felt almost no character development.
I think the story just wasn’t for me but it might be for readers who are looking for something lighthearted or a palette cleanser after a heavy book.

This story is very much a rom-com, heavy on comedy. If you're looking for romance best to look somewhere else. However, if you're looking for something lighthearted with a few giggles then the story of Yoshida may interest you.
This story is told from a third-person point of view/ mainly the side characters' points of view. Because of this you also get a lot of side comments and peanut gallery comments which I enjoyed as a reader.
Furthermore, there is no plot to this story, the reader mainly just gets snippets from their lives. However, as this is only the first volume I look forward to seeing if any plot does develop in subsequent volumes.

Omg this is so sweet he continues there even without any love? i need more i don't care if it has almost 0 plot because i care about the characters and this friendship and the behind the scenes of a manga writer !

The Transcendent One-Sided Love of Yoshida the Catch by Shizuki Fujisawa is about a perfect, handsome worker at a top-notch company who everyone either aspires to be or to marry. But everyday when he clocks out at 5 he goes to his other job… as a mangaka assistant!? The reason? His one-sided love is the mangaka but she is the clueless type and only sees Yoshida as a really good friend. Will Yoshida’s feelings ever be known?

I’ll be honest, I’m not the biggest fan of slice-of-life type stories where there’s not much development in plot. There were some moments in this manga where I can see the plot building up to more, but the actualization of some thing happening is still a long time coming.

I did really like the art style! I thought it was really cute and it plays into the whole innocent feeling really well.

I would be interested in reading more of Shizuki Fujisawa’s other works as I love their art style, and maybe read another volume of this series.

I loved this manga!

One of my favorite aspects about this manga is the personality of one of the main characters - Sena Shimakaze. She is so "out there" and wacky, but it makes her that much more lovable and entertaining in the manga. She is completely oblivious as to how much Yoshida likes her.

I would definitely read more volumes in this series, can't wait!
