I really enjoyed learning about Toni Morrison from the perspective of a friend, A.J. Verdelle. The author also does a good job of pointing out the significance of much of Morrison's work, i.e., The Black Book. However, it took her very long to get into Morrison's life and a great deal of the beginning of the book is spent on Verdelle's own experiences as a writer.

If you are a fan of Toni Morrison, run, don't walk, to pick up Miss Chloe. This is a story about friendship, determination, writing, and what it was like to learn from of the greatest authors of all time. Despite this being non fiction, I'd also call it a page turner. I simply could not put this down and needed to know how the story closes. I loved it.

Reading Toni Morrison’s novel “Beloved” was a turning point for me and made me choose Literature as a major while in college. This gorgeous book - MISS CHLOE - is written by a fellow writer and mentee/friend of Morrison’s. Reading this felt like I was sitting with the author listening to her tell stories about her life and her relationship with Toni Morrison. It’s a short book - I could have kept reading and reading. It’s a beautiful book with life lessons and insights on writing and publishing. Loved every word. Heartfelt thanks to Amistad for the advanced copy. Go read this one. It’s special.
