The Bride Goes Rogue by Joanna Shupe is the next book in The Fifth Avenue Rebels series. A historical romance with an arranged marriage. It is a fun romance with two great characters. Enjoyable read.

The Bride Goes Rogue was my first Joanna Shupe and I was not disappointed! This book was REALLY sexy and I very much enjoyed the scenes between Preston and Katherine. I also really liked the clever set-up here: Katherine and Preston’s fathers betrothed them as children and, for the past year, Katherine has presumed that they would be married (it doesn’t hurt that she has seen Preston from afar and finds him very attractive). When her father encourages her to visit Preston’s office to discuss wedding dates, Katherine decides to do just that—but Preston quickly tells her in no uncertain terms that they will never get married. He hates her father for abandoning his father when his business began to fail and so he wants nothing to do with Katherine or her family.
In amazing Romance Reasons fashion, however, Preston and Katherine soon meet again. Angry about Preston rejecting her, Katherine decides to go to a masked ball at Madison Square Garden and have a steamy liaison with whoever strikes her fancy. When she sees a handsome man in a mask, they go to his private rooms and have a very heated encounter, keeping their identities anonymous. When they decide to meet up for a second tryst the next day (sans masks!), Katherine quickly discovers that, of course, the handsome gentleman is Preston—and he is just as shocked as she is. The rest of the book features these two trying to reconcile their deep attraction for one another with the history between their fathers.
All in all, it is a really juicy premise and I enjoyed in immensely. I also loved the old New York setting. At one point, Katherine and Preston also go up to the Hudson Valley to their vacation homes there, and I adored this novel setting as well.
My only quibble with this book concerned certain aspects of the emotional dynamic between Katherine and Preston. I thought Preston held out a bit too long in his resolution not to marry Katherine when he was clearly obsessed with her. I almost wanted them to get married sooner and I felt that would have been more satisfying and exciting to me from a historical and narrative tension perspective--they are living in this restrictive society, etc., and I would have liked if Preston had freaked out more about having compromised Katherine, who is very much a debutante type. That said, I mostly read 18th century, Regency, and Victorian romances set in Great Britain/Europe, and so that might have been a difference between the historicals I am used to and the time period of The Bride Goes Rogue. Most of my context for the Gilded Age is Edith Wharton novels, so it is definitely a period I know less about. Generally, I think these characters skewed super modern in their sensibilities (but, again, maybe I just think that because of what I am used to reading!! the Gilded Age is a lot of closer to the present than, say, a Regency) and so I would definitely recommend this book to readers who like historicals that have a more contemporary feel.
Overall, The Bride Goes Rogue was a great historical romance with A+ steam and I think will please readers (like myself!!!) who want a historical that won't skimp in any way on heat.

The Lady Gets Lucky remains my favorite in this series, but The Bride Goes Rogue was a fine entry. Preston felt like he didn't deserve Katherine and truthfully, he didn't! She was much more forgiving than I would be. Looking forward to the final book.

Katherine has been planning her marriage to Preston Clark since her father informed her she was engaged, despite the fact she's only met him once. But Preston will have nothing to do with it. So... the bride goes rogue.

She starts living her life, including going to a scandalous masquerade and having a (mutually self pleasuring) liaison with a masked man. Spicy!

It's so much fun. There's a good balance of spice and emotion. I stopped to read lines out loud to my husband because the writing just hit me right.

Good stuff. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Fifth Avenue Rebels series has been seriously good. This book has a sort-of engaged to enemies to lovers plot, and, WOW, it works. The banter, the chemistry, the conflict, and the callbacks to previous characters and stories all work so well together and ultimately make this an incredibly fun and satisfying read. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

Another great one from the Queen of the gilded age.
We were able to see a bit of Kat and Preston in the previous 2 books in this series- but as usual- the book is just a million and one times more amazing than I originally thought.
I ADORED the friendships in this book, especially between Nellie and Kat. It was so great to see Nellie a bit more, and hear her point of view on certain things. Especially since her book is next, and I can’t wait!
Also I loved seeing Preston brought to his knees. So satisfying!

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I've so enjoyed Joanna's romances since her first one and this new one - book 3 in her Fifth Avenue Rebels - is another winner.

Katherine has no desire to play nice and wait quietly for her fiance - who hasn't even acknowledged that they're engaged. Living it up Fifth Avenue style means scandals and she's good with that. But at a masquerade, she ends up with her fiance and everything changes. Preston has been avoiding the engagement his father arranged - wanting to choose his own wife - but a masquerade brings them together and she is nothing like he expected.

Lot of wealth and parties. LOTS of sexiness and sex! Lots of emotional changes as the Katherine and Preston finally give into the inevitable!

** I received this as an E-ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review, Thank you!**

I really liked this book. I liked the characters and enjoyed the romance between Preston and Katherine. I really liked the tension between these two. I will say I would've liked to see more groveling in the book, both from Preston and Katherine's father. I won't lie, I think Katherine should've given her father the cold shoulder a little longer, but that's just a personal opinion. Overall I honestly had a great time and would absolutely recommend this book!

Honestly, I started this book intending to read one chapter to keep up my Kindle streak and then put it down and read book 2. I didn’t. I basically read the entirety in one sitting. From the very first chapter, I was pulled into the love story between Preston and Katherine. There was a marriage agreement between their fathers and Katherine shows up at Preston’s office to plan their wedding… only to discover that Preston has no intention of following that arrangement. From that moment, I was obsessed with Katherine. She decides to stop letting others and society dictating her life. One of those ways is by finally perusing her dream of opening a modern art museum. And another is going to courtesans’ ball, dressed as Madame de Pompadour, where she has a steamy encounter with someone dressed as Louis XV. To both their surprise when they decide to meet up again, that person is Preston! The heat level in this book is just… chef’s kiss! Katherine and Preston decide to pursue a non so friends with benefits relationship and quickly grow close to each other. Preston is a very morally gray character. He’s suffering from guilt over his friend’s death and had to make unscrupulous decisions to keep his family business afloat after his father’s death. Kat’s father had been Preston’s father business partner and Preston blames him for separating their businesses and not curing Preston’s father’s gambling. Needless to say, there is a lot for Kat and Preston to work through in this book and I enjoyed every minute of it!

Katherine Delafield is perfection, of course. She's everything every man would/should want. She's beautiful, clever, organized, caring, strong, and apparently, she's decided to become sexually liberated after sitting on the shelf for a year after her debut, waiting for her arranged spouse to decide he's ready to marry her. He's a few years her senior (naturally) but still young enough to have a lot of stamina and a lot of daddy issues but no wife. After he thwarts her plans for their assumed wedding, which he says he knows nothing about, they have a chance meeting at a masquerade ball that develops into a full fledged affair. Will they decide that they are perfect for each other yet? Nope! It takes a whole lot more than sexual chemistry to bring them both to their senses.
I enjoyed stubborn, bull headed Preston, who, of course, turns into a total simp for Katherine. I liked how she doesn't bother playing games with him. She sees the faults and the issues and just tells him off (and eventually her father, too). She's a great heroine.
Joanna Shupe is hot and she get's these two right down to business, so toss this one to anyone who wants something 'spicy' and strong and needs a change of scenery from "Almack's" and Vauxhall Gardens (ie: Victorian England).
Thank you to Avon and NetGalley for the ARC!

Just wow.

I loved Katherine from the first page. She is definitely sweet but she is so much more than that. Daring, caring, headstrong, compassionate and knows what she deserves. I was rooting for her from the moment she came back in the room and dressed down Preston.

The setup for the story was so fun and at no point was I bored. I was so pleased with the turn that it made from being an arranged marriage to him refusing the betrothal to the secret identity tryst. I loved how Preston was enamored with her. The French ball…are you kidding me?? This was maybe the hottest historical romance I’ve read.

I am not usually a fan of a lot of groveling in a romance novel. Most of the time I feel like it’s over the top or it’s unreasonable for the hero to have to work so hard and I usually find the third act conflict silly compared to the level of groveling. But this was perfect. I don’t think I’ve ever read a hero that was more devastated by the damage he had done to the heroine. He was wrecked knowing that she was hurt and I swooned every time he was so worried for her physical and emotional safety. The strides he made to make changes to be a good husband for her….I could cry it was so sweet.

And Preston didn’t ever want to compromise her into being with him. He was upset every time her father brought up a forced marriage or her being ruined and taking the choice away from Kat. That is something I can’t stand and I loved that Preston cared enough about Kat for it to always be her choice to marry him.

I appreciated that Preston’s growth was extremely realistic. He didn’t change overnight and he made decisions that made sense with his character motivations. I couldn’t be that mad at him because he genuinely believed he was acting appropriately. They both felt like real people and the writing was superb.

I am DYING to read Nellie’s story.

Also the audiobook is great.

Ahh, this was my first book by Joanna Shupe and I absolutely loved every bit of it. From the writing to the chemistry and to the characters and romance, everything was top notch. I loved Katherine, she was such a fierce and wonderful female character who was not afraid to go after what she wanted. The story line was amazing and the romance made me swoon. I just wished there was more development between the characters from when they hated eachother to when they started falling in love because we love a good angst and hate to love story. Overall, a very good book!

This one was YUMMY and might be my favorite in the series so far given just about everything that happens in it, but I can't be the only one who wanted more groveling on Preston's side. At least dedicate several chapters to that stuff!

First of all, I want to apologize that this review is almost two weeks late after publication. I just turned my life upside down and started over within the last month. This should probably be last mention of the move stuff for awhile but that was an exciting change for me!

I was super excited when I got this book because I loved the first one in the series. The Bride Goes Rogue follows Preston and Kat. Kat believed that she was engaged to Preston because their fathers set up an arranged marriage, but he didn’t follow through on it or really know about it.

I really liked the fact that Kat went to the ball. That sounded like that was a super interesting event to go to! It also sounded mysterious too since everybody had to wear masks.

I liked the plot and the romance between Preston and Kat.

The Bride Goes Rouge was a four star rating. And I also can’t wait for the next book to come out!

After waiting on Preston for a year and then getting rejected by him, Katherine breaks her engagement with Preston and decides to live for herself. When they both meet in disguise at a masquerade, sparks fly. Once the masks come off, they are shocked but realize that they cannot stay away from each other. I loved the chemistry between Katherine and Preston. I adored how sexy and playful their intimacy was throughout the book. I adored their story and would definitely recommend it as your next read. This is book three in the Fifth Avenue Rebels Series but you could read it as a standalone. I would highly recommend reading the entire series because each story is fantastic and I adore this series.

Joanna Shupe continues her Fifth Avenue Rebels series with “The Bride Goes Rogue”, Katherine Delafield’s story. Katherine has long been betrothed to the son of her father’s former business partner, but they have barely met, and Katherine thinks its time to remedy that somewhat odd situation. But when she actually meets with Preston Clarke, she discovers that he has a vastly different view of their prospects.

This Gilded Age romance, set in the milieu of fast-growing New York’s real estate development, is sexy and sweet. Shupe’s heroines are feisty and self-determined, and her heroes, when they fall, fall hard!

This is great escapism reading and I eagerly await the next in the series.

This book is pure fire! Joanna Shupe has outdone herself in this third installment of the Fifth Avenue Rebels series. The characters are beautifully written…their chemistry…electric. The banter between them is both witty and engaging and the sex scenes…sizzling…especially their very first scene…woo wee!!!

Admittedly, I’m a romance snob. I prefer my romance set in Victorian and Regency England, but oh what a fool I’ve been, for “The Bride Goes Rogue” is simply delicious. Set in the Gilded Age, the scenes are so vivid that you feel a part of them. The story itself grabs you from the outset making this book hard to put down.

Katherine Delafield is a beauty. She’s also smart, kind and a helpless romantic and just happens to be betrothed to one of the most ruthless men in New York City. After waiting in vain for her betrothed to honor a contract signed by their parents, she decides enough is enough and sets out to live her very best life…without HIM!

Preston Clarke is devastatingly handsome, heartless and use to getting his way. When confronted by a woman who claims to be his betrothed, he quickly sets the record straight and sends her on her merry list-making way. But a series of chance encounters, passionate embraces and soul stirring conversation has Preston craving the attention and affection of the woman he so quickly dismissed and eagerly thew away.

This book is a must read, even for lovers of romance set in England. Shupe’s writing will convert you to a lover of the Gilded Age and have you staying up all night long… just as I did, to find out how these two head strong people find their way to one another!

I want to state that this is not at all a bad book. I have seen so many glowing reviews but this book just did not work for me.

There were a lot of things about this book that just, unfortunately, made me dread picking it up. After loving the Lady Get's Lucky, I was so excited for this. Plus it was enemies to lovers with some nice steamy angst? Sign me up. Now, if you have seen any of my reviews you know that I am a huge character reader, characters can destroy my reading experience or make it a reason for a glowing 5-star review. With this book, I just could not stand Preston. I did not think her was worthy of Kat and he acted like an immature, angry, arrogant teenage boy who felt entitled to everything and he was like this up until the epilogue. I didn't see any growth from him and I felt like Kat didn't have any growth. I could not understand why they loved each other let alone liked.

Something else that rubbed me wrong and also influenced my feelings of Preston was some of the sex scenes. There were 2 sex scenes where it was very clear that Kat was upset about something and wanted sex to not think and detach from reality. I completely get that but I couldn't help but feel grossed and irritated that Preston would acknowledge this and never ask/press Kat on it. Like something is obviously bothering her but it's not that big of a deal because he's horny right? It just rubbed me the wrong way.

Like I said this isn't a bad book, this is just a book that didn't work for me. I am very excited about the Duke & Nellie's book because they are my favorite and I am excited about this series'
