I’m not usually drawn to pregnancy-centered plots, but I went into this with an open mind. What really didn’t sit right with me, though, was the decision to make the villain’s storyline revolve around having an abortion. It felt like a heavy topic that wasn’t handled in a way that resonated with me, and it left me feeling unsettled. In the end, this book just wasn’t the right fit for me—and that’s okay. Not every story is going to align with every reader, and I’m learning to honor that.

This book was everything I wanted and more. I’ve never seen my neurodivergent brain represented better than in Lizzie’s character. She was chaos, but also just the most honest real person. Rake is the sweetest baby angel! I loved him and them together and this story! Mazey’s writing is magic and I cannot wait to read more from her.

Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake is a delightful, chaotic ride through love, growth, and learning to embrace life's messes. Lizzie is the kind of character you can’t help but root for, even as she stumbles from one blunder to the next. She’s burned kitchens, fallen for the wrong people, and even dabbled in a few disastrous pyramid schemes. But when her ADHD causes her to lose yet another bakery job, Lizzie finds herself breaking her number one rule: no emotional attachments. A spontaneous two-night stand with Rake, a man with his own emotional baggage, sets the stage for a whirlwind of unexpected consequences.
Rake is done with relationships, burned by his past and determined to keep things casual. But there’s something about Lizzie—the way she’s both completely charming and utterly chaotic—that gets under his skin. After their brief fling, he expects to return to his life in Australia without a second thought. That is, until Lizzie drops a bombshell: she’s pregnant. Now, Rake is faced with the daunting task of being a father, but his commitment to keeping emotions out of the picture is stronger than ever. Of course, as the pair navigate this new chapter, their connection deepens in ways neither of them expects.
The heart of the story is found in Lizzie and Rake’s hilarious and heartfelt journey through a series of misadventures—platonic bed sharing, an underground erotic baking scheme, and plenty of moments where they both question their past decisions. The chemistry between them is palpable, and while Rake insists on avoiding emotional vulnerability, it’s clear that he can’t deny the pull Lizzie has on him.
What Mistakes Were Made does exceptionally well is balance humor with the vulnerability that comes from making big life changes. Lizzie’s growth as she learns to embrace responsibility while still staying true to her fun-loving, imperfect self is a refreshing take on personal development. Rake, too, has to confront his fears of intimacy and trust, making his eventual emotional breakthrough feel earned and genuine.
This book is a perfect mix of steamy romance, laugh-out-loud moments, and heartfelt transformation. If you’re a fan of love stories where characters find that even their biggest mistakes can lead to beautiful outcomes, Mistakes Were Made will certainly be a fun, quick read that leaves you with a smile. Just be prepared to fall for these two lovable, messy people as they navigate their chaotic, unexpected journey to happily ever after.

A fun romantic comedy. Definitely recommend for a fun, quick read. This is hilarious and the relationships in the book are so real life. Definitely check it out. Besides the erotic baking, this could be a Hallmark movie ;)

A chaotic, heartwarming, messy romance about embracing imperfections. Feels real and raw, a great read.

This book was such a delightful and fun read! I really enjoyed the author’s first book in the series, A Brush with Love, but I think this one takes it to the next level. While it’s the second book in the series, it works perfectly as a stand-alone.
I’ll admit I was a little hesitant at first, since the synopsis reveals a lot of the plot, almost like they gave too much away. But despite that, the journey is still one you don’t want to miss. The main characters were fantastic, and I loved the supporting cast as well. Each character has their own individual journey, alongside the one they share together.
Even though I knew a fair amount about the plot, this book still managed to captivate me with its surprises. It’s packed with charm, steam, and witty banter — a total winner!

I found out via some friends/reviews that the "conflict" in this book is that the male main character had an ex who got an abortion and he was mad about it? Didn't support it? Either way I don't want to read that type of story in the year 2025 and while I may check it out eventually to see for myself I know I will need the political climate to be different to be able to set that aside.

I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
“I think about your brain constantly,' he continued, his eyes piercing into hers. 'It fascinates me to no end. I want to know every corner of it, learn the secret colours of your thoughts. I'd do anything for a map of it.”
This was such a cute book. Lizzie is one of a kind. She is unapologetically herself and should never be tamed. She is definitely the type of person who would be balls to the wall with no regrets. She can't help it that her ADHD is the best part of her. It's what makes her her, and she's beyond adorable.
Then there's Rake. Ugh, anyone with an accent is automatically hotter in my mind. Sure, he's taking some risks when it comes to Lizzie. She's cute and simply fascinates him. It would probably be better if there wasn't so much distance between the two (literally). It also wouldn't hurt to brush up on certain expiration dates on things that people use occasionally, like condoms.
Anyways, it's just a new adventure for these two cuties, and I was here for it all. They balanced one another, and I just really enjoyed their love story. The chemistry and overall vibes between them were the cherries on top of the delicious neurodivergent romance pie. I absolutely loved every little thing that happened to them or around them.
In the end, this just brought me joy, and I can't wait to get my hands on the next book in this series.

ADHD rep and will make you have happy and emotional tears. Shows that mistakes take you to where you need to be in the end.

"Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake" serves up a charming blend of romance and humor, perfect for unwinding without too much mental effort. Mazey Eddings crafts an endearing tale of two individuals navigating life's chaos and getting tripped up together along the way. Lizzie's whirlwind personality and Rake's guarded demeanor make for an amusing and often heartfelt dynamic, despite the occasional predictability of their journey from mishaps to meaningful connection. The story does well in capturing the essence of opening one's heart amid life's unpredictability, even if the narrative sometimes relies on well-trodden romantic tropes. With its quirky escapades like underground erotic baking, the book delivers laughs and warmth, ideal for those much-needed, low-key reading moments. If you're seeking a light-hearted tale about finding beauty in blunders, this novel makes for a pleasant, if a bit tired, read.

So so cute!!!!! The characters were well fleshed out and the writing style was very easy to get through. Mazy Eddings always writes the sweetest romances ever, I’m so happy I was able to read this

This was a really good story, which is saying something because I don't like the pregnancy trope. There was forced proximity, one bed, dual pov ... truly all the great pieces of a great story.

“Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake” is an absolute delight! The characters are wonderfully quirky and relatable, making it impossible not to root for them. The plot is engaging and full of unexpected twists that keep you hooked from start to finish. The humor and heartwarming moments are perfectly balanced, making it a feel-good read. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a charming and entertaining story!

I really thought I was gonna love this book as I had read A Brush with Love and had really liked it. I ended up dnfing at 50%, which I hate doing, but I just couldn’t find myself to finish it. It was kind of slow, i’m not a big fan of the surprise pregnancy trope which might be why I couldn’t really get into it.

OMG, this novel is the first romcom book of 2025 for me, and it is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I absolutely adored this story, and now I have to go read A Brush With Love. An eternal fan of Mazey Eddings!!!!!!!!!

To start off, I love Mazey’s books and A Brush with Love is one of my favorites, but I just couldn’t get into this one.
I found the characters a little too insta-love like which is not my favorite and hoped there be a bit more depth to it. It did develop more but as I read more of the MCs backstory I was less impressed.
It’s a tough situation to write and I think my personal thoughts on women in this situation were a little different than it was portrayed.
Overall, I liked it and would recommend Mazey in the end.

I devoured this on a flight between CLT and the Dominican Republic.
I cried on the plane.
The trope here is usually one of my least favorites, but I really loved this one. It was well done and didn’t seem too corny. Just as good as book one in the series.

Despite having the ARC for Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake, I ended up reading this series in chaos order. I started with the third novel, The Plus One, and I wasn't sure if I didn't enjoy it because while it was technically a standalone, I really needed the background of the previous two books. So I then read A Brush with Love, that was fine. It did help me understand The Plus One a lot more, but it still left me bored.
I then finally got around to reading Lizzie Blake, and I don't think the author's writing style is a match for me. However before giving up, I switched to the audio. Nope, DNF'd that as soon as the MMC appeared as a POV - the narration is in an American accent of some sorts, but the dialogue is in Australian. My personal opinion is that it should be completely in Australian.

Gosh darn it! Another book I forgot to review!
Love this author! She's so good with showcasing invisible illnesses. This one has a MFC that suffers from ADHD. I thought it was represented well.
I don't love one night stands in a book, so that was a negative for me.
Overall a good book, but it felt more like lust than love.
Loved all the baking in the book. Love the friendships in this series.

I love maze and this book really is just an amazing love letter, I love mazey and the way she tells stories just makes me so happy and seen.
