What a charming, sweet and funny book. Both of the main characters are so easy to love, especially Lizzie, who leaps off the page with her energy, humor and vibrancy. I really enjoyed how her and Rake’s relationship evolved and how they helped each other move past their issues. I wish the pregnancy milestones had been featured a bit more, but other than that, I really, really liked this story and look forward to checking out more from the author.

I absolutely loved this book. In fact, I think I enjoyed this book even more than the first in the series, A Brush with Love. I am not usually a fan of the accidental pregnancy trope, but this book surpassed all of my expectations, and I am so glad I had. the opportunity to read it. The characters are amazing and well developed. Lizzie is so alive, she is wild and energetic and fun. She has the best personality, and you can't help but adore her character for being so unabashedly herself. I think Rake complemented her well. The romance Eddings delivers is wonderful. The relationship that blossoms between Lizzie and Rake is so lovely, and oh boy did I love their chemistry. I was rooting for them the entire time. I loved how supportive Rake was and how he recognized he had his own emotional struggles he needed to overcome. This book is a feel-good romance, but it's also a story of what it's like to live with ADHD and it does a really great job tackling deep topics like ADHD representation, self-love, and toxic family relationships. I found myself experiencing all the emotions while reading this book. From smiling and laughing to crying, this book tugged at my heartstrings and made me emotional in all of the best ways. This is a fun, heartwarming romance that I cannot recommend enough. I adore Mazey Eddings' writing, and I cannot wait to see what's next in this series.

witty, charming, and full of fun moments, lizzie blake’s best mistake is a winner!

lizzie brings energy with her everywhere she goes. when she meets emotionally unavailable rake, she figures what’s the worst one night can do. but rake gets her humor and treats her with the kindness and respect she always craved. a surprise pregnancy has both their lives flipping upside down and navigating their feelings for each other as well as lives as new coparents.

lizzie was such a relatable main character and all i could think of with rake was liam hemsworth! a great summer read for sure!! thanks net galley for the early access!

This was a great book! Beautiful at times and heartbreaking at others. It was a unique glimpse into the life of an adult with ADHD and how to view traits and personality from a different perspective. I love that she reunited with her brother despite not being able to mend the relationship with her parents.

I recently read A Brush with Love by Mazey Eddings so I was excited to start Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake. Lizzie is a talented baker with ADHD who struggles to keep track of some things and often blames herself for these struggles. She meets an Australian, Rake, at a bar and their one-night stand becomes a two-night stand and then becomes something else entirely. You don’t need to have read A Brush with Love but there is some crossover with Harper in Lizzie’s book.

What I liked: I think Eddings did an excellent job of creating a character with ADHD and some of the struggles Lizzie encounters. I really liked how Rake was also able to advocate for and support Lizzie. I love when a man stands up for his woman. Eddings also brings the spice from early on and is able to keep it spicy throughout the book.

What could be better: I found that there was just a lot of conflict and arguing in the book and that just wasn’t the vibe I needed at the time, unfortunately. I understand why the conflicts were important to the plot but it kinda dragged me down.

Overall, I think I would give this 3 out of 5 stars. However, I may revisit it later since I know what to expect now. If you are looking for a book with an accidental pregnancy, neurodivergent representation, and spice, this is absolutely the book for you.

Thanks to St. Martin's Griffin for the free book.
I absolutely adored Lizzie. She was such a fun character to get to know. There is so much depth within her. My favorite part of Edding's books are how she has a main character that is neurodivergent. Lizzie has ADHD, and this book made me understand my partner better. Tackling this topic and showing the differences in the way that those that have ADHD function was so well done. I also loved how Lizzie was, overall, surrounded by people who loved her and only wanted the best for her. Harper, Thu, and Indira are such great, honest friends to have.
I figured out through this book that I am not a surprise pregnancy trope fan. As someone who went through having a child in the recent years, I thought there needed to be so much more depth between Lizzie and Rake. Yes, there was LOTS and LOTS of physical attraction. But coparenting takes way more than physical attraction, and I wanted to see them work through the emotional attraction - and figuring out the whole 'we're having a baby' freak out more.
I loved Rake as well. He was just such a sweet man to Lizzie - the kind of person she needed.

What a blast this book was! From the beginning to the end I adored Lizzie and Rake and the family they ultimately end up building.

I just love how Mazey writes her characters. They all feel like such real and tangible people that at times I forget that I’m even reading about people who don’t exist. Lizzie’s internal battle with ADHD throughout the book was so heartwarming to read about. She goes from sort of letting it control her life to realizing maybe it is possible to still be her and also have a better handle on it. But also that she’s still her no matter what and she deserves love and respect. Seeing her come to this realization and stop letting people shove her into a box was beautiful!

The fact that Rake wholeheartedly falls for her even harder because of her quirks was so adorable. Any time we were in his head getting to see how he sees her, I loved it! Their chemistry was *chefs kiss*. Rake being an aquarius… Definitely checks out. I related to him so much throughout this book. He took awhile to really open up to her with words but the small things he did along the way to show his affection and seriousness for her!!! “You certainly remind me of home, Birdy.” AHHHH.

Overall, this was just such a feel good book even during scenes that absolutely tore at my heart. If you like romance with a dash of accidental pregnancy, a sexy Australian and a beautiful chaotic baker who likes to bake titty cupcakes— you need to get your hands on this book the second it is out!

This was the cutest, funniest, light hearted romcom!!

Lizzie Blake seems to live a chaotic life. She's 27, lives with her bestie, and is a baker but has a difficult time keeping a job due to her uncontrolled ADHD. She's sort of been misunderstood her whole life, especially by her family. Her mother just wants to put her into a category as the embarrassment of a daughter who will never be successful. SAD RIGHT? Because of this, Lizzie has come up with a new way of living life that includes trying to stand clear of her mother and live as freely as possible. This includes copious amounts of hook-ups, specifically, once night stands. The one night stands allow her to keep anyone from getting too close.

Enter Rake. Yes, his name is literally Rake. The hot Australian Lizzie meets at a bar after she was stood up on a date. They immediately hit it off as Rake is attracted to Lizzie's lively energy. Rake is in town for work and they end up going back to his hotel room for a VERY FUN night. Lizzie, who is used to mediocre sexual interactions with random guys, is sort of shocked at the easiness she feels with Rake. The spice hits early in the story and LET ME TELL YOU, it hits well! However, the awkwardness settles in once Lizzie is trying to leave. Rake wants Lizzie's phone number in case he's ever in town again and she's hesitant due to her one night stand rule but gives it to him anyways.

A few days later, Lizzie finds herself getting fired from her most recent baking job because she was constantly showing up late to work and her boss was fed up. Feeling down in the dumps, she decides to see if Rake is still in town. She breaks her one night stand rule and proceeds to spend a fun day in the city with Rake. They finally say their goodbyes and Rake heads back home to Australia.

Rake is back home but can't get Lizzie off his mind and Lizzie is down in the dumps because of her job situation. She's literally sick to her stomach (vomiting) and she though she was sick because of the job situ. Let me assure you, it was not about the job. Miss Lizzie has a baby on board with none other than Mr. Rake. When she tells Rake the news, he's immediately ready to share the responsibility and be as involved as Lizzie will allow him.

Lizzie and Rake are trying to navigate co-parenting (or I guess pre-co-parenting because the baby's not here yet). Lizzie is nervous because she doesn't want Rake to think she's not cut out to be a good parent because of her forgetful and whimsical nature and Rake is nervous because he's uprooting his life to raise a child with a stranger and has difficulty opening up emotionally due to past relationship trauma. However, Lizzie and Rake are able to fall into things quite nicely. Of course there are bumps in the road because Lizzie is Lizzie, but Rake finds himself becoming very fond of her. Lizzie's character is truly wacky and infectious. I found myself laughing out loud at the things she said/did so many times. She is so off the wall but thats what makes you love her and its one of the many reasons Rake fell for her. They develop such a nice friendship and I loved all their little moments together. There was smut in the first 10% of the book which I am ALWAYS a fan of, and it was HOT! The 2 MC’s are so comfortable with each other and you can just see it right off the bat.

I loved seeing how Lizzie grew. She went from being a gal with uncontrolled ADHD, not knowing how she would be able to raise a child to finding a job that was perfect for her, ways to better control her ADHD, and worked as a team with Rake to prepare for parenthood. Rake was so supportive of Lizzie as she was trying to figure her life out which was so beautiful. He never judged her for having ADHD or for the way she chose to liver her life which was refreshing because Lizzie was so used to not being accepted for who she was. She grew up with parents who didn't understand her or support her quirkiness. When Rake offered her that support and understanding, she really felt seen. Rake was also able to open up to Lizzie regarding things that happened in his previous relationship that helped her understand him better. Rake also stood up to Lizzie's parents and told them off which was VERY much necessary and was very hot ;) I mean anytime a love interest stands up to their partner's annoying/rude family is just amazing.

All in all, I ate this book up! it was such a quick read bc it had short chapters and the story was continuously moving. It never felt boring and was the perfect length. I’m typically not a fan of 3rd person POV but this was written in a way that flowed very well and was very easy to read! I never wanted to stop reading because Lizzie's character was so funny, likable, and infectious and I loved seeing her platonic co-parenting-ship with Rake turn into more.

I’m glad I gave this author another chance, but this one wasn’t for me. Similar to “A Brush with Love,” I appreciate the representation of neurodiversity and mental illness in this book, and I’m partial to series where the secondary characters from one book get to have their own romcom in the next installment. My issues with “Lizzy Blake’s Best Mistake” are twofold. First, I’m not especially drawn to the accidental pregnancy romcom trope. I didn’t do any research on this book beforehand, so this one’s on me––I probably should have guessed what Lizzy’s “mistake” would be.

Second––and most importantly-–the writing just isn’t very strong. It’s repetitive and awkward, especially whenever there’s conflict between the characters. I noticed this in “A Brush with Love,” but it’s especially apparent in this book, perhaps because the focus is on the protagonist’s ADHD. The book reads, at times, like the author is following a WebMD checklist of the ways that adult ADHD manifests in women. Many scenes in the first half of the book feel like they were built around Lizzy’s specific issues (her impulsivity, her RSD), instead of allowing those issues to come up organically. I imagine that Eddings’ lack of subtlety could be helpful to readers who’ve had similar experiences, but who haven’t been able to understand or name them. But as a reader who doesn’t need as much hand-holding when it comes to this topic, I wish this book didn’t read so much like a PSA.

3.75 stars! I loved this book! It was cute and fun and Lizzie was a ray of sunshine. I love the platform it gives ADHD, and how Rake saw her as some kind of rare gem when she clearly did not. It was precious and sweet, and I thought they had great chemistry. The way he described her hair and eyes had me 🥰🥰🥰

The only complaint I had was that it seemed like the author forgot she had already asked about the nickname “Birdy” at the beginning of the book? She asked again at the end and got the full story — as well as the same cute little tease from Rake about her beak — but it didn’t really acknowledge that it had also happened earlier, ya know? It felt like it was mistakenly out in their twice. I wish there had been more of an acknowledgement that this was a follow-up question to the first time she asked.

I also would have loved more of a focus on her pregnancy, and her feelings of becoming a mother. It felt like kind of an afterthought once she decided to have the baby. But I would have loved to hear more of her internal monologue on becoming a mother, especially with her own broken relationship with her mom.

Adored this story! Definitely unlike any story I’ve read before and I really enjoyed seeing characters that weren’t absolutely perfect. It was nice to see a character with ADHD and how they function through life and a difficult situation. Also Rake was a perfect love interest!

Lizzie Blake's best mistake is now Mazey's best book because I had so much fun, laughs and swoony moments while reading this book.

It is so funny, witty, heartwarming, sweet, emotional and overall such a happy book. we meet lizzie in a brush with love but getting to know her was such a pleasure. Lizzie is such a sweet girl that is a bit of a hot mess but she's trying her best. She really means well and her heart is in the right place. I really loved seeing a neurodivergent main character in a romance book that shows the good, the ugly, and everything in between. It showed how complex Lizzie is. I loved Rake and her together. the way he was just amused and enamored with such a unique figure like Lizzie and he really encouraged her and was proud of her and supported her. He really was her best support system that wanted to be there for her and their little bun. Sometimes Lizzie even has a bit of word vomit that makes you face palm like "oh lizzie..." but she's such a sweet person that at the bottom of everything, wants to be loved and make her loved ones proud and I think how hard she truly tries to be the best she can is something to admire. I loved how Rake even stood up for her to friends, family, what a guy. I really enjoyed this book and i thought it was so sweet, emotional and heartwarming. Such a fun romcom that includes adhd rep, an australian boyfriend and Lizzie finally being proud of herself, what she does, being confident in herself and finding her little family even if it started with an accident but it was the best accident!

I will be honest, upon starting this book I had concerns. Concerns about how unsettled the first few chapters left me and I nearly DNF'd it. But, that would have been a mistake. I very quickly realized that the reason I was so unsettled was because of how close this narrative hit home. I wasn't diagnosed with ADHD until very recently and after being described as quirky, loud, a bit too much for most of my childhood it left me with very little self esteem/ anxiety/ and a few of all the partners in my life relegating me to a manic pixie dream girl trope and it weighed heavy. This book was a journey and honestly a gift to all the neurodivergent girls out there just trying to get by. Could it be "a bit much?" Sure. Could it also be deeply revealing? Absolutely. I am very happy I didn't put this book down because it truly was a wonderful romance proving that everyone deserves patience and understanding, and maybe even a tall Australian named after a gardening tool.

Lizzie Blake is a creative, kind and loving 27 year old who picks up a delicious Hemsworth at a bar and ends up spending a spicy 48 hours with him. It’s only after he goes back to Sydney that things go a bit pear shaped.

While I liked Mazey Eddings first book, I didn’t always relate to the protagonist and her choices, but Lizzie was so easy to connect with. She’s got dreams, disorganization flaws, and a lot of deep thoughts and feelings that really spoke to me. Rake, can we take a moment to send some historical romance love to that name, was adorable, believable and charming. The build up of their relationship and the drama that they have to go through to get to their HEA was an honest and emotional journey of growth for both characters.

I loved this book. Go read it!

- Bernadette being an angel

What I did not like 🖕🏻
- the way lizzie’s parents treated her

This book really surprised me. First, i am lizzie blake. Minus the falling in love with an Australian man and getting pregnant… and being a baker. But i could relate a lot to the way this author described Lizzie and her Adhd. Like, it was spot on and i’ve felt all of those feelings before. A great representation of someone who lives with ADHD and even ways on how they cope with it. This book is so cute. i thoroughly enjoyed it. The romance, the banter, THE SEXUAL TENSION, i loved it all.

i highly recommend that you pick up Lizzie Blakes Best Mistake on September 6th. thanks netgalley and st. martins press for the arc. you’re the true mvps.

I adored this book! I loved Mazey's first book, a Brush with Love, and this story continues the story of Harper and Dan's friend group with Lizzie. Lizzie is a fun and funny character in the first novel, so I was already interested to see what her own story would bring.

Mazey Eddings is wonderful at portraying neurodiverse characters with empathy, compassion, and as full human beings not defined by their differences. She's excellent at writing warm supportive friendships that you want to just dive into, and her stories are so FUN and yet full of delightful tension. I couldn't stop reading, and look forward eagerly to the rest of this series. Also, I learned a lot about baking in this one, and about dentistry in the first one. Can't wait to see what I might learn next!

After a two night stand with Rake, Lizzie finds out she is pregnant. Rake is commited to raise this baby and uproots his life and moves to Pennsylvania to live with Lizzie. They try to maintain a platonic relationships, but cant seem to keep their hands off eachother.

This book was adorable! I would highly recommend. A light easy read, and I found myself rooting for Lizzie and Rake to find themselves and each other.

Thank you Netgalley and St. Martins Griffin for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you #Netgalley for the advanced copy!

This was such a fun read! Lizzie is a free spirited red head who loves to bake, doesn't shy away from sexual encounters. Until one day when her world is change forever. Lizzie meets a man at the bar for what she envisions as a one night stand, but the attraction was stronger than she was used to and she felt the urge to continue to see him though he was traveling the next day. We watch Lizzie evolve, find a job she loves and builds a "platonic" relationship with this man, though it was difficult at times. We watch Lizzie and Rake navigate their new life together and how they each become protective of each other. I loved watching the growth of Lizzie! Highly recommend!
