Reviewing a five-chapter preview of Husband Material from NetGalley (thank you!)
Note: This review may not be reproduced or quoted in whole or in part without explicit consent from the author (also thank you).
First, a caveat: I love all things Alexis Hall, particularly because his writing inspires in me a sense of awe. I've read all of his more recent titles as well as his deeper back catalogue and love them for their brilliant wordplay, character development, humor, and complex-yet-accessible storytelling. His characters express a level of humanity not all authors capture.
I've read and reread the precursor to Husband Material, Boyfriend Material, so I was pleased to be reacquainted with all the characters I'd come to love within the first pages of HM. That said, I wasn't particularly excited to be introduced to a fringe character from the main character's past within said first few pages. I guess drama must be generated somewhere, including past loves who were and still are, quite obviously, douche-canoes.
I look forward to reading the rest of Husband Material because I haven't met an Alexis Hall book I didn't love. Even when I don't swoon over the story, I swoon over his writing.

How cute is the banter between Luc and Oliver! The five chapters definitely felt short for their adorable banter. I can feel there is a storm waiting to brew up between them and I feel anxious for them already. There seem to be cracks in the relationship and Luc seems to be self sabotaging. I can't wait to read more!!

I read Boyfriend Material in a day and was so excited to be able to read this five-chapter preview of its sequel!
It's two years after the events of Boyfriend Material. Bridget and Tom are getting married (Luc is Bridget's maid of honor), Luc still works for CRAPP, and Luc and Oliver are as strong as ever. This sequel truly felt like a continuation of the first book. The characters have grown and developed, as you expect real people would after two years, but the wittiness and charm are still there. We haven't seen any group texting yet, but there's been plenty of Luc-and-Oliver texting, including more Dick pics!
I am very excited for this book to come out because so far it has been exactly what made me fall in love with its predecessor! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the preview!

I actually signed up to Netgalley just to read this preview and it did not disappoint!
I absolutely adore Alexis Hall's sense of humour. All the characters (except Miles) are so adorable and quirky, especially Luc. You can see how much he's grown in the beginning of this one, he actually stops to think a little before jumping to the worst conclusions.
That ending though!!! 5 chapters was not enough and now I desperately need to know what's going to happen next! Not just to Luc and Oliver but to Bridge as well! Why is August so far away?!

Eeeeeeek, such a tease!!! I loved being back with Luc and Oliver.
This is already looking like the best follow-up to Boyfriend Material . . . now I need the rest.

So I adored the preview for Husband Material - not unexpected given I am eagerly awaiting the publication of the novel. Oliver and Luc are now in a stable 2 year relationship and I just adore the steadying influence Oliver has on catastrophizing Luc. It was a perfect taster portion for us diehard fans, and I'm so excited for more.

Ok. So this story takes off after 2 years of Luc and Oliver dating. Why had I not realised Luc on his own is whiny and irritating as hell? But Luc and Oliver together, sigh!
Luc and Oliver have been dating for 2 years, Luc is Bridgette’s maid of honour and he bumps into his crappy ex-boyfriend who is getting married too. When Luc has to cancel on Oliver for a Bridge crisis, do we see cracks in their relationship ?
Response to the preview: I don’t like Luc alone. More Luc+Oliver scenes please. Also more Luc+Oliver texting please. Can’t wait to see which Dick pics they come up with this time.

After reading this preview, the wait for the book itself now feels longer!! I like the set-up of the story so far. Definitely curious where Luc and Oliver's relationship will go especially since this is their 2nd book already. I'm looking forward to August 3 to read the rest!!!

I’m so excited to have Luc and Oliver back!! I’m already making my predictions for the rest of the book. I missed Alex’s lack of joke comprehension, both (now all 3) James’s and the rest of the gang, and of course Oliver and Lucien’s love. Can’t wait for the rest!

What a sweet and fun romance! Love the representation and think fans of “Red,White, and Royal Blue” will love this book.

OMG OMG OMG I can not wait to read the rest of this. I love this author. I love these characters. I have been dreaming of the day Luc and Oliver's story was continued. SO good so far. I need the rest right now.

When I first started reading the first book in this duology (series? I honestly don't know. I'll gladly take as many books as the author is willing to write), I wasn't convinced. What gave me the final push to read it was the announcement of the second book so you can only imagine my excitement when I got the opportunity to reunite, even for a moment, with my favourite character in those five chapters. The author said that writing this book and being with those characters again felt like coming home. And I might not know where this story is going to take us but I do know one thing for sure - it really does feel like coming home. There's this unexplainable warmth in my chest when I think about picking up this book in a few months and going with Luc and Oliver on another adventure.
I was raving to my friend about the previous book and she said to me "everyone has their guilty pleasure". And I do agree to some extent but if I'm being completely honest - I do not feel guilty about the pleasure I get from reading those books.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher who provided a preview of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Wow. I need more! It was five chapters of what life was like for Luc at this point. Luc and Oliver have been together for two years. And with any relationship the ups and downs go with it, I don’t want to spoil the beginning of this beautiful story. Just that it was amazing! Now I cannot wait for the book!
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for my preview of this book.

The first five chapters of this felt like jumping right back in with more stable, confident Lucian and a vulnerable Oliver. They both still have the same faults, but without the uncertainty that comes with a new relationship. I love that the supporting characters feel very true to their Boyfriend Material selves, even though it's been 2 years. I absolutely love Alexis Hall's characters and I can't wait to read the full book and see where Oliver and Luc end. As well as learn more about how it shakes out with Lucian's posse, dad, and Oliver's family!

My excitement for this book IS SOOOOO REAL!!! I adore these boys and I'm just as read as they are!!😭😭😭

First off, Boyfriend Material absolutely owns my heart and soul, and so I have been anxiously awaiting Husband Material for what feels like FOREVER. This tease was just that... such a TEASE. Ugh I missed Luc and Oliver and this was a perfect taste of what's to come and what is sure to be an absolute joy to read when the book is released!

This little excerpt sounds so good! I love the premise and would love to review the full book. Husband Material is a sequel and I love how it ties in to the first book.

I absolutely loved Boyfriend Material and I'm so excited for this sequel! These chapters have just made the wait until August even harder; I love Alexis Hall's writing and being back with these characters is so much fun.

INCREDIBLE START TO A MUCH ANTICIPATED SEQUEL! I can't wait to see what's next for Luc and Oliver, and this excerpt proves that Husband Material will be worth the wait.

Just read the first five chapters, and they’re just as charming, funny, and entertaining as Boyfriend Material was. Can’t wait to read the rest of what is sure to be a great sequel!
