I have been waiting for what feels like ages for Husband Material, the sequel to Boyfriend Material, to come out. It isn't really ages - it just feels that way because Boyfriend Material is hands-down one of my favourite books ever and everyone I've introduced to it has loved it.
I"ve missed Luc and Oliver and of course all their friends and so the news that the preview for Husband Material was available was the highlight of my January.

This short 5-chapter preview feels like the equivalent of a 30 minute coffee chat with someone you haven't seen in ages and the minute you start talking you already know you'll need longer, much longer.

Husband Material starts 2 years after the end of Boyfriend Material. Unlike in the first book, Luc seems to be in a good place - more stable and not quite so prone to heaping scorn on himself. I'm not sure what's going on with Oliver - I was just getting a sense of something when the preview ended.

All the banter between Luc's friends, his coworkers and of course Luc and Oliver made me laugh. I really should have known better than to read this next to a sleeping person. Apparently some people don't appreciate being woken up to hear about Rhys' live streamed debate (go figure).

Now I'm hanging on until August to read the rest (no spoilers here).

This was EVERYTHING and I need Husband Material NOW!

We start this book with the most Luc situation ever - a nice party, a vulva hat, running into an ex - just a casual day in Luc's life. Well, at least it used to be. But now Luc's life is on track: he is doing well at his job, his apartment is put together, AND he has a wonderful boyfriend.
In the first five chapters we get a glimpse into Luc and Oliver's life and how they have been happy together for two year now. *heart eyes* BUT I already know (based particularly on chapters 3-5) that Alexis is gonna make us suffer with Husband Material as well and my poor heart is not ready. (Lies, it is SO ready!)

I am praying to all the bookish gods that I get to read an arc of Husband Material once they become available as well! I simply cannot wait until August for this gorgeous, gorgeous book. I need to know what happens next. *pitiful crying*

I am such a huge fan of Boyfriend Material and have been giddy with excitement waiting for Husband Material to be released! All I can say after reading the preview (ch. 1-5) is.... I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE REST OF THE BOOK! It seems like this sequel is going to be just as charming, humorous, and sweet as book 1. I'll be counting down the days until I can read the rest of Luc and Oliver's story, but in the meantime, I'll be swooning!

ALEXIS HALL DOES IT AGAIN!!!
(Spoiler Free)

This preview of Husband Material is everything we were hoping for. Fellow lovers of Boyfriend Material, you will be more than happy with this one. The light (and sometimes hilariously serious) tone is maintained, and you are taken right back into that lively world.

Luc and Oliver have settled into their relationship and are blissed out in love. Things look hunky-dory with their relationship, work, and friends; but certain new developments (which I shall not name) have Luc mildly-to-moderately worrying. Luc, typically, is handling things in his chaotic but well-meaning way, while Oliver is handling things (things being Luc) in his calm, posh and gentle way. I feel things in my heart every time Oliver calls Luc by his actual full first name ‘Lucien’, which is every time.

It was so sweet, I kept scrolling down for more, but alas, we only have five chapters for now.

*I received an ARC of the first five chapters from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.*

Started off a little slow but then it picked up. I’m curious to see where this story will go. During the preview it didn’t reveal any big plot development with the main character so the possibilities are endless! Luc seems like the perfect gay best friend and someone everyone needs in there life, how could you not love a main character like that?

I will be posting a review of the preview on my Instagram @libraryofhallie and on Goodreads!

I got a 5 chapter preview from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

Boyfriend Material is one of my all-time favorite books ever, and I was so excited when I heard that we're getting a sequel! This preview only makes me more excited for this book!! :D

These books are a cheesy fun rom-com in the best way possible! The humor gives the book lightness meanwhile dealing with mental health and the two never feel unbalanced. Luc's narration and the books humor are as great as ever. I love these characters so much. Luc's and Bridget's friendship is SO much fun. (token gay/straight besties!) I can't wait to see what shenanigans Luc and Oliver get up to!
I can't wait to get my hands on a full copy!

This was super cute! I actually did not know this would be the sequel to Boyfriend Material (although now it all makes sense) but it was refreshing to remember! The characters were as charming as ever and I can't wait to revisit the full book in August (and reread Boyfriend Material in the meantime).

The following review will be posted on Tuesday, March 1st on my blog (attached the link but it isn’t available yet) and the review has already been posted on Goodreads. The blog post includes links to pre-order the books and to its Goodreads page, so readers can add it to their to-be-read books.

Genre: Romance, LGBTQIA
Actual Rating: 5 stars
Content Warnings: Mentions cheating.

“Husband Material” is the sequel to Alexis Hall’s “Boyfriend Material” and I am here for it. The sequel once again follows Luc O’Donnell, the son of two celebrities who’s kind of famous by association, and Oliver Blackwood, a.k.a. the perfect boyfriend and fancy barrister. This time around, everyone close to them is getting married and that’ll make them question where their future lies.

First of all, AAAAAHHHHHH I AM FREAKING OUT. I know it’s only a preview, but getting to read just a bit of this sequel has made my day, my week, my month. Get to pre-ordering this bad boy as soon as possible, as we’ll get all the wonderful Luc and Oliver banter we got to know and love through “Boyfriend Material”.

From what we could see in these first five chapters, this book will come packed with drama, yes, but most of all it’ll come packed with Luc and his panicky periods and Oliver and his calming qualities, as we got to see the first time around with “Boyfriend Material.”

I will recommend this book to absolutely everyone. But first: go read Boyfriend Material!!! These books are light and well-written and just a blast to read. If you’re into LGBTQIA romance, this is for you.

I’m so excited to read the second installment in this series. This series I found through some of my friends on Instagram and I’m so glad I did.

Alexis Hall’s previous book and this little preview was no less captivating. I am thrilled that we get to revisit the characters from Boyfriend Material and see how they grew and how they will grow in this new book!

I adored Boyfriend Material and I am so excited to have more of Luc and Oliver in Husband Material. This preview was just what I hoped for and I can’t wait to read the rest of this book in August!

I am so hesitant about a sequel set with the same characters as the first, but I think Alexis Hall is going to crush it. These chapters were just a tease, but I can already tell the book will be wonderful.

I adore these characters, and was happy to get a glimpse at their next story. I am relieved that Luc's growth in the first book is still evident here.

I pre-ordered the book after reading these chapters. Alexis Hall's writing shines, as ever. I especially enjoy how he uses Oliver (and his dry wit) to drop little-known vocabulary treats for readers.

2 years since Boyfriend Material, Oliver and Luc are still a couple and with it comes the still the highs and lows. I can't wait to see what happens with them. Poor Luc, always getting into something.

I immediately preordered the book after reading these chapters. I literally laughed out loud and can't wait to get my hands on the rest of it.

Enough said, to be honest!

Luc and Oliver have been together for 2 years now and Luc is helping to plan best friend Bridget plan her wedding, When things to awry with planning, Luc swoops in to comfort Bridge, but he seems to have ruined Oliver’s special plans while trying to be a good friend.

This was like coming home to old friends you haven’t seen in a while. The banter is still excellent despite Luc and Oliver’s long term relationship. Bridget is still moving from crisis to crisis, The Royce-Royces are still perfect and ridiculous and have added a third James Royce-Royce to the mix. I loved all five chapters and cannot wait to read the full book when it comes out. Alexis Hall has a fantastic writing style that makes you feel like you also are friends with Oliver and Luc, close enough to be in on all the jokes, to feel sad when they’re sad, and to celebrate their joys.

I think I've said it multiple times but reading an Alexis Hal book alwaysf makes me laugh! ngl I was a bit worried that Luc's emotional growth in the first book wouldn't have an impact but we see it here too, he's trying and I would love to see where this goes!

This was great! I loved BOYFRIEND MATERIAL and have been super excited about the sequel. I'm also just happy to read a book about people already IN a relationship where their relationship is the central theme. I read a lot of romance and books with romance in them, and they're so often about people getting together or people backburnered once they are together.

From these first five chapters, it's obvious the same humor and warmth of BOYFRIEND MATERIAL is present in HUSBAND MATERIAL, but it doesn't feel like a retread. I liked that Luc/Oliver haven't magically grown out of all their issues, because DUH, love isn't a cure all. Also, a) I'll never not get kick out of people bashing LOVE, ACTUALLY and b) YAY for vegan Oliver -- it just makes sense.

What an incredible return to Luc and Oliver!! Boyfriend Material is one of my favorites, so I was very excited when Alexis Hall announced a sequel. This chapter sampler has all of the characteristic warmth, witty dialogue, and fast-paced plot as book one. I particularly love how Alexis Hall always manages to raise the stakes, creating a complex plot in only a few chapters. It was so much fun to see these characters again! I can’t wait to read Husband Material and see what happens after the cliffhanger that the chapter sampler left off on! Husband Material releases August 7, 2022. Thank you so much to Alexis Hall, Sourcebooks Casablanca, and Netgalley for a free chapter sampler in exchange for honest feedback.
