I absolutely loved Boyfriend Material, the first book in the Boyfriend Material universe by Alexis Hall. So I am eagerly awaiting the release of Husband Material in August 2022. Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for sharing the first 5 chapters of the book! This preview reminded me of everything that I loved about Boyfriend Material: the wonderful characters, pop culture references, and delicious dialogue. From the very first page it was like reuniting with old friends as we catch up with Luc and Oliver 2 years on from Boyfriend Material. And it's just enough of a peek to see where the challenges, silliness, and romance will develop in the rest of the book. I cannot wait for the release of Husband Material <3

This preview of Husband Material was everything I hoped it could be and more. I loved getting to see Luc and Oliver after they have been together for a while and the way their relationship has progressed. I also loved how while it is a couple years after Boyfriend Material the characters still feel like themselves and are still working on their issues, some getting better and some getting worse. The cliff hanger this preview ends on sets up what I expect to be an amazing plot for the book and I cannot wait until August when I can read the rest of the story on August 2rd 2022!

Reading the first five chapters of this books has made me so excited to continue the story. These few chapters made me laugh out loud, say “aaaw”, and I’m already stressing about what will happen next!

Husband Material has me instantly hooked! Lucien is a relatable character. He is trying to be the best friend he can be and trying to be the best boyfriend. But this may end up being a problem. It may not help that his ex has come into the picture and ended up inviting Lucien to his wedding! Luc thought he had moved on, but would going really out everything that happened behind them?

I can't wait to get my hands on the rest of the book!

What a wonderful start to “Husband Material”! It keeps the fun voice, I loved in the first book, and I immediately felt welcomed back into Luc’s life and friend group, easily catching up on what has happened since we last saw them. These five chapters already open up several interesting plotlines and I cannot wait to get my hands on the book once it’s published to find out where the story is going. (Fingers crossed the funeral will be Jon Flemming’s future and that the wedding mood convinces either Luc or Oliver to propose - I’d also take a hilarious double proposal, I’m not really picky like that!)

I absolutely ADORED Boyfriend Material and when I saw this preview here I thought, Ooooh that will be fun! OMG why did I do this???? It's five freakingly fabulous chapters with my adore boys Luc and Oliver and now I have to wait for MOOOOOOONTHS for the rest! I hate myself! LOL But thank you, Alexis Hall, again, because I know that this will be a new favorite!

Alexis Hall returns with the sequel to his breakthrough novel, Boyfriend Material. Husband Material is, for the first five chapters, explosive and already full of rom-com inspired drama.

Luc’s ex returns causing his already haywire brain to go even more haywire. Miles shows up one night to drop a bomb on Luc’s face and, as if to rub salt in the wound, make yet another appearance to propose something to Luc. Naturally, Luc was rendered “too gay to function” as the dilemma hits. But Oliver is always on the move to punch some sense into Luc the same way he showed up the first night Miles made a comeback.

However, cracks are starting to show in the whirlwind romance between Luc and Oliver as the former had to make hard choices that leave him questioning his position in the lives of the important people around him. More importantly, he now has to show his commitment to his friends and boyfriend or face the need to make a choice in who’s life is he willing to make a permanent resident of.

Or does he?

This sequel to Boyfriend Material does bring back the many elements that we came to love about Hall — his smart and funny storytelling. Not to mention, the punchlines and the characters that are most certainly drafted out of a rom-com film.

This preview is already showing tons of potential making it a promising sequel and we can only assume what would happen next. It is also intriguing to speculate how Luc’s choices would result in either a make-or-break scenario. I guess you and I have to wait for the novel to drop on 03 August 2022 to find out whether this story would end up on a happily ever after or something else.

boyfriend material is one of my favourite romcom books ever, so you best believe i ran to netgalley when i saw this preview was available! this sets the book up so well and made me even more excited for husband material’s release. alexis hall has a way of writing that makes you feel like you’re just hearing a story from your best friend, and this book seems to be no exception. i was already laughing out loud by like, the third page, and i truly cannot wait for what comes next!

The start of the book was great- I would probably be more invested in the characters if I had read 'Boyfriend Material' first which is on my TBR list but this has been the perfect start to get interested in their story. I will definitely be reading both of them in the near future!

I laughed and I may have teared up slightly too.
I LOVE seeing how far luc/oliver have come, especially luc being more open about his feelings. I'm so excited about this sequel which is going to see them grow even further and build on all the character development introduced in book one.
Really enjoy having the whole gang back together again and even though there is a new antagonist I'm looking forward to the drama.
I cannot wait until August!!

For one short, awful moment I had forgotten what I found so special about Boyfriend Material. I remember I loved it to death, recommended it to everyone, and bought both the audiobook and the paperback but I just couldn't pinpoint exactly what caused such a passion in me. I read less than a chapter of this preview of Husband Material and recognized it right away. It's in the way Hall writes his characters ( somehow both nuanced and outlandish) and their interactions (both realistic and idealized) that make his books so beautiful. I have preordered all of Hall's 2022 releases but thanks to this preview I absolutely cannot wait to get my hands in Husband Material and catch up with my favourite disaster boys, Luc & Oliver.

I LOVED diving back into this series! It picked up right where Boyfriend Material left off (well, two years later) and it was so easy to jump right back into this ragtag group of characters. I love them all, I loved this preview and I absolutely can’t wait to read the rest.

Alexis Hall has quickly risen to the top of my favorite authors list and this sequel to Boyfriend Material is by far my most anticipated book of 2022. This preview was just 5 chapters but It was such a joy to be back amongst Luc, Oliver and their group of fantastically diverse and hilarious friends. We pick up two years into Luc and Oliver’s relationship, at Bridget’s bachelorette party. The party is being hosted by Luc and all the usual characters are in attendance - and a few unexpected ones as well! Later, we are treated to office jokes with Alex and Rhys and of course, Oliver being, well, Oliver. Even in five short chapters, I had cause to laugh and cry (sometimes simultaneously!) and also swoon over kissy/steamy/all the feels romance too! Five big shiny stars for this! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thank you to NetGalley for the preview copy.

Beyond overjoyed of this sequel as we have been quite attached to the characters ! It reads and feels the same, like a coming home part! Really can’t wait to get my eyes on the rest!
This book is different from the rest (for me from this author) because they usually are about meetings and first times and developing relationships, and now he has done a beautiful job on an already existing relationship, with all of its comfort, habits and remaining uncertainties with characters still developing, still maturing and dealing with their past. It is different! Hilarious, and splendid.
The first five chapters determined the pace and left so many questions
What is the weak link in their relationship ?
How will Luc and Oliver grow together and individually by the end of the book?
How come the picture of Tom isn’t with Niall?(filthy bisexuals…) :p
Who will get married?
Will Oliver’s parents accept a brutally honest boyfriend at some point?
Is John Flemming going to properly die this time?
Too many questions, yet one certainty that the author will deliver!

“Husband Material” is the sequel to the very popular “Boyfriend Material” and picks up two years in the future. Lucien and Oliver are in love but still have some things to iron out on their way to happily ever after.

The writing here definitely has the same feel and tone as the first book; funny but also heartwarming and emotional. A must read for fans of “Boyfriend Material.”

WOW did I miss these characters.

Luc is still just as witty and funny as ever, but with the added bonus of being more self-aware and kind to himself. Gotta love that character development. I’m very intrigued to see how Oliver is handling his family and life in general. I know a few issues were brought up at the end of the last novel, so I’m hoping things have gotten a bit better for him. I’m glad to see that he and Luc seem happy together. I was full on clutching my chest at the domesticity of it all.

Absolutely cannot wait for August!

I am absolutely STARVING for more!

Alexis Hall is one of my favorite authors and at the top of my list of autobuy authors - deservedly so. Reading a preview of Husband Material immediately felt like coming home. Even from the first page, Hall's voices shines through. It's witty and clever and has Luc's self-deprecating voice that I love with my whole heart. I've missed them terribly,I love recognising Hall's voice and knowing that there will always be this voice to return to for comfort and joy. What a wonderful voice to know. Its so good to be back.

These first five chapters have me so excited for reading the full Husband Material book later this year! Alexis Hall has done a great job writing more Luc and Oliver magic again. Boyfriend Material was one of my favorite books and I can tell that the sequel will be right up there, too.
