I was really drawn to this book for its beautiful cover, and its interesting premise. I ended up really enjoying this story that is full of humor, workplace antics, and self-discovery. Hockman's writing is charming and witty, and I had a hard time putting the book down as I just wanted to continue reading. The characters were relatable, and the story striked a good balance between professional hustle and personal connections. While it follows some classic romantic comedy tropes and cliches, it was executed so well, giving a feel-good read with genuine emotional moments.

"Dream On" by Angie Hockman is a delightful escape into the world of romance and self-discovery. With its engaging plot, relatable characters, and picturesque setting, it's a perfect choice for a heartwarming read.

One of the standout features of the book is its well-crafted characters. Natalie and Connor are not your typical protagonists, and their personalities shine through with authenticity. They're flawed, relatable, and genuinely likable, which makes it easy to invest in their individual journeys and root for their budding romance.

The tropical setting of the story adds a touch of wanderlust to the narrative. The vivid descriptions of the Galapagos Islands create a picturesque backdrop for the characters' adventures and add depth to the story.

Angie Hockman's writing style is modern and engaging, with a nice balance of humor and heart. The witty banter between Natalie and Connor is a highlight, and their chemistry leaps off the pages.

The workplace rivalry and forced proximity trope is handled well in "Dream On," and it adds a layer of tension and anticipation to the story. Watching Natalie and Connor navigate their feelings and their careers is both entertaining and emotionally satisfying.

While the book is undoubtedly enjoyable, it doesn't quite reach the level of a five-star read due to a somewhat predictable plot and certain moments that could have been more fleshed out. However, these minor quibbles don't overshadow the overall enjoyment of the book.

In conclusion, "Dream On" by Angie Hockman is a solid four-star romance novel that will sweep you away to a tropical paradise while warming your heart with its endearing characters and engaging storyline. If you're in the mood for a contemporary romance that strikes a perfect balance between humor, heart, and a touch of adventure, this book is a fantastic choice.

A delightful romp into a love that can only be found in our dreams.

How did the book make me feel/think?

Fun!

My head hits a bunch of fluffy pillows, sinking into the luxurious feathers. I slip into REM.

Am I in a coma?

I’m in love.

Is this the love of my life?

I don’t want to wake up.

Oh my, another love interest.

Are the people in my comma dream from my life?

Have I seen you before?

I must find out; I’m, we’re, falling.

But I want to kiss someone else; my support network supports me.

I can’t stop thinking about you. Fortunately, I have a blessed life. But, more fortunately, the blessed people in my life are just as enamoured by my fantasy as I am. We kiss.

A sign from the universe tells me this is destiny.

What’s destiny?

You lead me to true love, my soulmate, a fever dream. Is that what my comma dream is about?
Beer and flowers. Makes sense.

Dream On is a delightful romp into a love that can only be found in our dreams.

We kiss. Sparks fly, and the world is okay, if only for a moment.

I’ve now read a romantic comedy.

CW: car accident, near death, coma, memory loss, miscarriage.

I received an e-ARC thanks to Netgalley and the publisher. I’m late to the game and this book is already out in the world.

After how much I enjoyed Shipped, I was so shocked and disappointed by Dream On.

I found the dialogue and writing jarring. Things were over explained instead of described, and some conversations felt forced.

The plot didn’t initially pique my interest, but I thought I’d end up enjoying it. I was wrong. Too many ideas and plot points were introduced with sloppy execution.

The characters felt flat and the relationships had zero spark. It was also so weird that the only sex scene was in the epilogue.

I found myself skimming the last half of this book. It was such a slog to get through and I just wanted to be done.

I really wish I had loved this book but it didn’t work for me. I’m hoping that I have a better experience with Hockman’s next book. I’m willing to give it a shot but I will be going in with low expectations.

I loved this one. I read it in an afternoon. The romance was just so sweet. I was swooning over the MMC throughout the whole book. This one just worked for me.

Dream On by Angie Hockman is the cutest hallmark-Esque romance!

I loved Shipped by Hockman and was excited to dive into Dream on and it did not disappoint!
Corporate lawyer falling for brothers who run a flower shop? Yes please! I enjoyed the love triangle, Cass trying to figure out if Devin was really the man of her “dreams” and the planning process of the flower festival!

This is the perfect spring time read!

Cute, entertaining and fabulous cover! It's a light rom com, pretty predictable but a unique storyline and interesting love triangle.
I enjoyed Shipped last year and I think I'd say I enjoyed this one even a little more.

I was very intrigued by the premise of Dream On by Angie Hockman! And the cover was also cute, so I decided to give it a go. Unfortunately, this was not the book for me—reading is subjective though and what didn’t work for me will definitely work for someone else!

The characters were very well-developed and felt very real, particularly the protagonist, Cass. She was an interesting character with a unique story, and I really appreciated the development she went through.

I definitely enjoyed some parts of the storyline, but maybe it was the story as a whole that I didn’t enjoy as much. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but like I said, I’m sure there are those who will thoroughly enjoy this book!

In conclusion, Dream On by Angie Hockman is an interesting book with well-developed characters and some great moments in the storyline. It wasn't quite what I was looking for in a book, but I'm sure many readers will appreciate it for what it is.

Thank you to Gallery Books and NetGalley for this advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

This was a very unique spin on a love-triangle/coma patient. That's all I have. This book did not work for me in so many areas, especially the romance.

One thing I want to highlight is the way Sadie was portrayed and how miscarriage was mishandled. Miscarriages are not meant to be tossed into a side characters story in such a casual way. Sadie was portrayed as a cutthroat, manipulative person when really her boyfriend left her while she was having a miscarriage and then blocked her. The way this storyline came about was completely unnecessary and offensive to many.

This is a fun, cute read! I’ve wanted to read an Angie Hickman novel for some time, and it will not be my last. Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster Canada.

I went into this book blind because I really loved the cover. The story centres around a woman who wakes up from a coma vividly remembering a relationship with a man she's never actually met, only to bump into him in real life.

This book was cute but not my favourite. It's great if you're looking for a light, quick, non-steamy romance. Personally, love triangles are never my thing especially when it's with two brothers so I don't think it would have ever been more than 3 stars for me...

This was such a fun and quirky love story. Loved the idea of someone waking up from a coma
And thinking if they had a soulmate but then finding them months later just not how first thought. Great story

I didn’t get a chance to read Angie Hockman’s novel Shipped when it was released but it sounded so great that I jumped at the chance to read her most recent book, Dream On. It was a really sweet and lovely romance that I had fun reading, even if I knew it wouldn’t be one that would stay with me for a long time.

Here’s the book’s description:
What would you do if your dream man turned out to be real?
When law student Cass Walker wakes up after surviving a car accident, she is flooded with memories of her boyfriend, Devin. The only problem? Devin doesn’t exist. But everything she remembers about him feels so real, like the precise shade of his coffee-brown eyes; the texture of his favorite hand-me-down scarf; even the slightly crooked angle of his pinkie, broken after falling off a trampoline in third grade. She knows he’s a figment of her imagination—friends, family, and doctors confirm it—but she still can’t seem to get him out of her head.
So when she runs into the real Devin a year later in a Cleveland flower shop, she’s completely shocked. Even more surprising is that Devin actually believes her story, and soon they embark on a real-life romance. With her dream man by her side and an upcoming summer job at a prestigious law firm, Cass’s future seems perfect. But fate might have other plans...
That description sounds completely bonkers, doesn’t it? The plot of this one was almost too bizarre to be believed but if you can just let the story happen, you’ll enjoy it a whole lot more. My attitude was sort of, “well, this is highly unbelievable but I’m just going to roll with it and see what happens” and what happened worked out alright!

That said…it was kind of hard to get behind Cass’s stubborn conviction that she was absolutely meant to be with Devin. It was like she couldn’t contemplate anything else and just had to believe in her false memories, even after she meets him and he has no idea who she is. Granted, she had a traumatic experience and was trying to cling to something that, to her, was familiar. But I definitely had a few moments of thinking, “Girl, what are you DOING?!? He’s the WRONG MAN.” She had to figure that out for herself, of course, but it took some time to get there.

I was very clearly rooting for a particular romantic Happily Ever After and, while I did get it, I kind of wanted MORE of their relationship. Maybe I’m just greedy!

And now for something that has absolutely no bearing on the story but I need to mention: I love that it was set in Cleveland. I’ve been there a couple of times and have thoroughly enjoyed each visit. I can’t wait to visit again!

Dream On was a sweet and fun romance. I enjoyed reading Angie Hockman’s latest novel and will definitely still be checking out Shipped and whatever she writes next!

This book had such a fascinating premise and when I started it I was all-in: what a cool concept of trying to piece together how she knew the man without having met him before that she knew of. I really enjoyed many aspects of the book, but by the end I found the entire thing wrapped up rapidly and without the plot development I was really hoping for - so while it was very cute and overall would make for a great light-hearted read, my excitement for it wasn't quite sustained by the end. Still, I read it in a day and it did make me smile, so there are worse ways to spend the time :)

I was instantly drawn to Dream On by it's bright, colourful cover. It's definitely one of my favourite rom-com covers of 2022, yet it's one of those books that had so much potential, but wasn't flushed out smoothly.

What I like:
- the premise. As I mentioned above, there was so much potential here. It sounded so good.
- the charming flower shop setting. Being a green thumb and knowing the power of flowers I absolutely adored the flower shop backdrop.
- the first half. I was interested, engaged and enjoying what was happening through the first half.
- Cass' best friend. Everyone needs a friend like this in their life.

What I didn't like:
- the love triangle. I don't get it. I likely will never get it.
- the second half. The plot went in a direction I didn't like or expect (see the next point) and just became more and more unbelievable as I went, to the point I eventually lost interest.
- Mercedes/Sadie & Devin plot twist. It felt absolutely unnecessary and the author used something so tragic in such an inappropriate way.

Overall, I enjoyed the first portion of this book, yet the second half lost my interest and dropped my rating. At the end of the day, there was so much potential for the book to be a solid 4 to 5 star, but the author took a chance and I don't think it paid off. At least not with me.

Well this was just adorable! I was hooked from the get-go and truly was not sure how this book was going to play out. But let's back up: what would you do if you woke up from a 6 day coma following a car accident, wondering where your boyfriend Devin is, only to be told and discover that no such man exists?! Except you are beyond certain that he exists. In fact, you know so many details about this man, including what he looks like, that it's hard to fathom that he's only a figment of the imagination. This is exactly what happens to our main character, Cass. Right away I was like, ok, how in the world is this story going to go?!

A year later, Cass walks into the flower shop she is convinced Devin's family owns and lo and behold, Devin is most definitely real! And even crazier, Devin believes her story and agrees to go on a date. But of course, there would be no book if things ended so easily there. As their relationship progresses, the truth behind Cass's vivid memories of Devin and their relationship pre-car accident starts to become more and more clear. The story that unfolds was charming and cute (and overall a very PG13 book), with some twists I did not see coming! I really enjoyed this unique love story.

Dream On has a super unique and promising premise. It had a strong start that had me hooked and invested in the story. As things progressed I found the storyline got too dragged out and there seemed to be one too many conflicts happening for me to stay engaged. I don’t think it needed to be as long as it was. I think the pacing was a little bit off with the transition from Devin to Perry, but this is probably individual to my preference as this book was a slow slow burn.

I found the chemistry and tension to be lacking a little in this book, maybe due to the fact that the author had a love triangle and essentially had to create two relationships. I just don’t think the dynamic worked. This book was also closed door until the epilogue and it was maybe THE most underwhelming sex scene I’ve ever read in my life, I just wish the author had kept it closed door.

Unfortunately, this one wasn’t for me but I know many people will enjoy this one.

TW: Car accident, coma, and a miscarriage.

Gosh, this was such a sweet romance and I was totally rooting for Cass and Perry to get together. They had so much romantic tension, and the part with the volunteer shirts and the names just stole my heart. That was so thoughtful and sweet 😭 However, there was a moment near the end with Perry that kind of made me lowkey hate him for a bit, but he had his reasons and he did redeem himself in the end. I thought Cass and Brie’s friendship was so pure and supportive and I think they are a great representation of being a good friend. On a side note, I totally called the whole Mercedes thing, but some of the backstory was still a surprise. Also, this book really made me want to go to a flower shop, so I think I’ll have to check out a local shop and get a bouquet just because. I would really love to see an artist’s replica of Cass’s mural too because the description in the book sounded so pretty. Overall, I would definitely recommend reading this if you want a nice, sweet romance with a complicated love interest.

I am a huge fan of magical realism, so when I read the premise of this book, I was so excited to read it. The beginning of it reminded me of You Were There Too, Wish You Were Here and In Five Years. Unfortunately, that aspect didn’t last too long and it finished as a typical romance.

Dream On is about Winnie who wakes up from a coma with the memory of a boyfriend. She knows his name, personal details about him and can remember dates they’ve been on. She asks her Mom and best friend where he is, and they tell her they’ve never heard of him.

She ends up running into the man from her dreams in real life and all the things she knows about him are true. His brother is skeptical about her intentions and she wants to prove what she’s saying is real.
As she grows closer to both brothers, she begins to question what the memories from her coma mean and which brother she was supposed to meet.

The most disappointing part of this book was that dream part kind of disappeared half way through. It wasn’t really mentioned again, and then at the end it was explained away and the book actually wasn’t magical realism.

This book reminded me of her previous book Shipped where it just kind of lost stream for me about half way through and I really lost interest.

I found that main characters were not overly likeable. Something that drives me crazy are people who make something that has nothing to do with them, all about them. I’ve noticed it with a few romances I’ve read lately, and this one did the same.

I also really don’t enjoy the trope of dating a friend’s ex or sibling’s ex, so that turned me off the book as well. I think one part of the storyline was supposed to be a twist, but I thought it was very obvious a mile away as well.

Overall this book started off fairly strong, but ended up being very disappointing. It really wasn’t my thing and it felt like a struggle to get through it at times.
Rounded up from 2.5 stars
