This is almost like a scout handbook for adults. It would be a great way for anyone who missed out on scouting as a youth to become one in adulthood.

A very in depth guide that I quite enjoyed. It can be a bit overwhelming if you try reading the entire thing at once but it's a very fun and helpful tool that I hope to use in the future.

If you love exploring in the great outdoors, camping, and generally spending time outside, you need to read Forest School for Grown Ups. There’s something for everyone from honing your survival skills to sharpening your creativity. My favorite thing about this book is the inclusion of fun and helpful illustrations along with some information about taking care of our environment.

Who says outdoor school is just for kids? In Richard Irvine's Forest School for Grown-Ups, adults can explore the natural world, too. Pick up this title to learn basic survival skills, folk tales, and more.

The author could've perhaps used a sensitivity reader for inclusivity and appropriate use of ethnic group labels. As some other reviews have mentioned, "Native American" is used as a blanket term for all First Peoples. And the illustrations skew overwhelmingly white and male. Doesn't the term "grown-up" also include women and people of color?

An overall approachable guide that will do well in your mid- to large-sized public library collection.

Forest School for Grown-Ups by Richard Irvine provides a unique perspective on adult living and activity. With lots to explore in the world, this is a great introduction for adults to get out there and hone those wildcraft skills.

This was a lot more dense than I expected. Nothing against the book, but it wasn't what I was looking for.

As someone who puts out a free nature magazine for families and who loves everything nature related -- foraging, hiking, exploring, learning in nature, etc. -- I was hoping for a lot more from this book. It's a fine book I suppose but not something I personally will be using or recommending.

As an ecologist, a mother, an educator, and someone who has run forest type groups for educational organizations, I was intrigued by the title of Forest School for Grown-Ups. I am not the target audience. This book has nothing to do with forming a nature based community group for adults. This book is using a catchy title, as forest schools have been trending, while targeting adults (or possibly more appropriately young teens) who have absolutely no experience with the outdoors. Honestly, so much of the information is so basic that one has to wonder why it is even necessary to write it out. I was left disappointed.

Forest school for grown ups by Richard Irving is a fun and practical guide to the forest. The book goes over survival information, different ways to cook and find food, and games and activities you can do in the forest. I recommend this book for anyone who loves the outdoors and wants to practice survival techniques.

This is a fabulous guide for everything outdoors--how to make a tent, camp chair, start a fire, forage for food, predict the weather, etc. As an added bonus, there are nature-y quotes, folklore, legends, and so forth. This book is one to savor and take with you on hikes and camping trips. I can't recommend it highly enough. #ForestSchoolforGrownups #NetGalley

This book was packed with information, how-tos, ideas, diagrams, and stories all related to forests. It took me a while to finish this book because it had so much information. I think it would be fun to try some of the projects in this book. This would be a good choice for anyone that wants to learn more about forests, survival, and other similar topics.

OK, publishers, please quit doing this: "Anyone who loves the outdoors, camping, trees, and nature
• Father's Day, birthday, and holiday gift-givers." If you're saying it's for anyone, why do you only highlight Father's Day?? Lame. But anyway.

Do you ever wonder how useful you'll be in the zombie apocalypse or are you normal? I really do worry about that. I mean, I work in a library. I have no real skills. My only skill is that I can identify some helpful plants and make salves and I know some that you can eat. That's it. But now I have this book, and I will be extremely useful in our dystopian future, and I'm very grateful for that.

An in depth text about how to understand and interact in the natural world. Opens with a description of how woods change over the seasons, then moves into gear one might need, and how to craft it.
The information was interesting, but over all, I found the presentation dull.

This book is so cool! I regret that I don't have time to read in depth before it's published. When I picked it up I didn't notice I only had a few days.

I love the way that interspersed between sections the author put folk stories and beliefs about nature. It gave a almost whimsy to a "survivalist" type book I've never encountered before.

The art and diagrams we're really pleasing to look at and I loved that there was color throughout. Often times wilderness books come across as textbooks that are easy to lose interest in.

I was so impressed by this book, I am pretty sure I'll be picking up a copy just so I can have more time with it. My family are big on camping and crafting and live a semi homestead lifestyle so this really is right up my alley!

I was not sure what to expect from this book. It ended up reminding me a bit of a scout manual…except for the odd bits about fairies/myths etc. it went broad but not deep enough in any particular set of skills.

Now, more than ever, people are seeing the importance of a relationship with the great out doors. This is the book for anyone looking to take a step outside their comfort zone and do so comfortably. 'Forest School' a wealth of knowledge ranging from navigation and fire starting to crafting and cooking with everything in between.
It's great jumping off point for anyone looking to spend valuable time in nature, especially those with zero experience outside, but is also a thorough refresher for anyone with a background in camping or scouting looking to brush up on their survival skills. Get to know the Forest and all it's inhabitants, as well as best practices for exploring and respecting your surroundings, all from one delightfully illustrated book.

So I thought Forest School for Grown-Ups would be a very rudimentary book geared towards city folks who have never been in nature. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it is so much more than that! Disclaimer: I have several friends who run a forest school for children in Faulkner's Woods in North Mississippi. I have seen what they teach and learn, and was holding this book to those standards. I will say that after reading Irvine's book, I will be recommending this title to even their teachers, and to anyone who is equally entranced by the photos and activities they highlight daily. Forest School for Grown-Ups teaches practical skills to anyone who is interested in going outdoors to witness the wild and beautiful world we have available at our fingertips. It teaches us how to leave no harmful imprints on that world, how to be responsible visitors, and how to safely interact with nature. It teaches a respect for the world around us. There is just such a breadth of practical knowledge here, I will likely be purchasing this book for everyone I know. As summer approaches and the urge to go outdoors increases, I want to put this book in the hands of everyone who has been trapped inside for the last few years. Whether you have your own forest to explore, or a park or yard or any area of nature, Richard Irvine has something to teach you. Highly recommended reading, thank you to NetGalley for the advanced reader's copy. I absolutely will be buying this one as soon as it is released!
