could not get through it. I rarely dnf books and this one was a mess. it starts out pretty good with the main man danio being a badass and then it immediately segways into this weird story about how he met his wife as a prostitute and he couldn't handle what she did to survive so he made her quit. oh but all his best army buddies sleep with the camp whores all the time and they aren't bad people for it. and his wife is hot so she deserved to be 'saved'. his relationship with his daughter is sweet and he clearly loves her. all of this man's problems happen because he has an inferiority complex about other men thinking his wife is hot and shaming her for being a former prostitute. and the rest of the book he pretty much does nothing. other people save him or help him because they feel bad for him. I feel like I'm reading an unnecessary prequel to a much more interesting book.
the fight/war scenes are tedious and confusing too.

Thank You, NetGalley for letting me read this book!
A medieval fantasy about a man who lost his way. Family, friendship, and trust play key factors. A warrior who lost everything because of war. A man whose only motivation to try to keep living would be to avenge his life. A world and a court well built. Yet the relations between the characters could have been deeper. Still, an amazing story that traps you from the beginning until the end
