Willy wants to be the first pig in outer space, but he hasn't gone to astronaut school. Never fear — he has a great friend to help him troubleshoot. This silly story features mindful breathing, a pogo-stick, a trampoline, and a healthy amount of imagination. I like that it doesn't water down concepts for young children (it models mindful breathing and discusses breaking out of the Earth's atmosphere) but the tone is fun and light-hearted.

The illustrations are adorable and the design is professional and enticing.

This book is perfect for children who enjoy space, who need to see examples of brainstorming and teamwork, and who need good examples of imaginary play. It's great for families with children of different ages, too, because the illustrations and vocabulary are advanced enough to entice older children but the story is perfectly appropriate for littler littles. The publisher has labeled it for ages 5-11.

Simple yet beautiful story of friendship, about one pig who helps his friend goes to outer space. Even though it is not easy, but having a friend who helps us make a big difference.

Walter and Willy are two pigs trying to get to outer space. Nothing they try works, so they finally decide to build a rocket ship out of cardboard boxes, and go there in their imagination.

My five year old loves learning about new things, like space, but is even more into making things with boxes. This was incredibly inspiring for her and she really loved the story. This children's book is about two pigs who set about trying hard to get into space. They try lots of different things to make their dream come true, such as meditation, and using bouncing objects. They are not successful, so they get the idea to build and launch rocket ships. Will they be able to use them to get to their destination? The illustrations in the book are beautiful, and I love the imaginations of the little pigs. This is an inspirational story, which little children will enjoy.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This story about friendship, imagination and adventures is wonderfully illustrated and a great read for young children who are interested in space travel. My co-readers loved the attention to detail, and were inspired to build their own rocket ship, and find out more about the moon and the planets - which pleased me because I feel books should encourage you to think and grow, which is exactly what happened here.

This review is based on an ARC I received from NetGalley.

This was a cute story! The illustrations are lovely & enjoyed how the story transcends that liminal space between reality & imagination.

I enjoyed how the one friend was more ground & down to earth while the other friend was more creative & big on dreaming. I like stories that play with those two personality types.

I did have a bit of a hard time keeping track of which one was Walter & which one was Willy, but that's probably just me & my general trouble with keeping track of names & faces.

Walter and Willy in Outer Space is about Willy who wants to be the first pig in outer space. But it’s more difficult than he imagined to get there. Walter, his friend, comes along and helps him to build a rocket ship.

A cute little read about friendship and teamwork. A great read for young kids who likes outer space, and to learn about the importance of teamwork and friendship. The artwork was so beautifully made, which was my favorite about the book and the reason for the four stars!

Happy reading!
