I could not get into this book.

I received a complimentary copy of the book from Avon and Harper Voyger Press through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I struggled to get into this one and decided it wasn't for me. Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the review copy.

I loved My Oxford Year, so I was excited to read this one. It’s a different vibe for sure, but still good on its own.

Sewanee is an audiobook narrator, who’s struggling to find meaning after a couple of tragedies have hit her. She’s thrown into a collaboration with Brock, a famous narrator. Doing so resurrects a part of her career she has abandoned, and makes her re-examine the way she has been living after the tragedies.

Whelan is really good at pulling the heartstrings. Because she’s also a pretty known audiobook narrator, I wondered how much of the book was relevant to her own experience.

I still liked My Oxford Year, but I can’t wait for her next one!

Thanks to Netgalley, Avon and Harper Voyager and Julia Whelan for the ARC.

Sewanee Chester meets a man named Nick with an Irish accent in Las Vegas; they both fall for each other for the evening that turns longer because of a snowstorm and only one hotel room (hers, already booked), and after the one night, both move on with their lives.

Sewanee Chester is an audiobook narrator and one of the best. She used to narrate romance novels until her favorite author just quit writing them, and Sewanee/Swan moved on to nonfiction and other audiobooks. But an offer that is too good to pass up comes along to do the last unpublished work of her favorite author with Brock McNight, the famous male narrator. Both have never met, but start a texting friendship that blurs the lines without ever meeting. They record, it does well, and they both start wondering if they should meet other than with words.

It was enjoyable, but the pacing was a bit off because of the different modes of communication and some flashbacks that popped up randomly, I messed with the flow. But I read it in one sitting. I would recommend it.

I enjoyed this romance. It was a quick read but didn't really stick with me. I did enjoy Julia Whelan's writing but her characters in this one just fell a little flat for me.

Julia Whelan is truly excellent at what she does. This book was fun, flirty, thought-provoking, and just plain enjoyable to read… but mostly to listen to. I’m grateful for the eARC provided to me by NetGalley and the publisher but I much preferred the audiobook, narrated by Julia Whelan, of course, to reading this myself. (Hence my delayed review of this edition.) “Thank You For Listening” is meant to be listened to and savored.

This was such a great lighthearted romance! Perfect for the summertime. I loved the characters so much and really enjoyed Sewanee. Highly recommend and can't wait for more by this author!

This was a wonderful summer read. Two audiobook narrators who ultimately fall in love.
I enjoyed the pen pal aspect of the story and the way they developed their relationship in an organic way. I felt the relationship was genuine and something I truly loved watching develop.
Relationships move so quickly and hastily now, that this was a breath of fresh air.
This is a rom-com type book that I would recommend to friends.

There's no sophomore slump here! I absolutely adored Whelan's debut, My Oxford Year (https://www.soobsessedwith.com/2020/01/learning-to-live-with-questions.html), and this one was even better. Whelan is one of my favorite audiobook narrators, and it was so fun to see her pull back the veil a bit on that career with Thank You for Listening. With a lively heroine, fabulous character development, and an emotional side story, I was immediately invested. Add on some fabulous banter and a swoony romance, and it was a winning combination for me! This was a 2022 favorite, and it made me hopeful that we'll continue to see more books from Whelan in the future. I read this one of my Kindle, but I immediately purchsaed an audiobook copy when I was done for future re-reads. This is one book where the fact that it's read by the author is a HUGE selling point! If you're looking to go on a journey with a heroine you'll love -- and watch her fall in love along the way! -- this one is for you. I'm So Obsessed With It.

Audiobook narrators really should be paid more. I mean have we all seen the things they're asked to say aloud?

Sewanee Chester was an actress on the rise when an accident derailed her performing career. Now she narrates audiobooks, putting all her talent into the spoken word. When she reluctantly agrees to narrate a romance novel by a late author she admired, opposite the genre's hottest voice, Brock Turner, she gets more than she bargained for when the two hit it off and begin exchanging flirty messages. But Sewanee soon learns that being vulnerable in real life is much scarier than performing it on the page.

Whelan's compulsively readable sophomore novel offers readers fascinating insight into the audiobook world. She also creates memorable characters who feel real, authentic, and charming, and readers will be hard-pressed not to root for these flawed humans. The novel is both laugh out loud funny and deeply sexy, and there's something for everyone here. Readers will enjoy the almost meta-textual reading of both the audiobook world and the genre of romance: it's clear that Whelan understands her source material and respects it, even while playing around with the tropes.

No sophomore slump here: Whelan has solidified herself as an author who delivers memorable stories with richly realized characters. A delight from start to finish.

This was a quick and easy read, but not super memorable. I love Julia Whelan as an audiobook narrator, and will continue to read anything she writes as well.

This is a book that I know I will reread, most likely on audio to get the full experience. I love Whelan’s narration and I hope she writes more books!

I thought this book was so fun. The mystery of who the narrators are going by pseudonyms and everything, but this book really had it all. it was fun and reflective and showed a lot of growth by the characters. I love this author and i love listening to her as a narrator too. It gave a really cool perspective on the industry.

I really like Julia Whelan and audiobooks, but this one fell a little flat for me. I really liked the beginning, but the whole rest I found pretty boring and it seemed way too long. I think there were so many side stories and characters that weren’t very interesting, all they did was make the book longer.
I really felt the chemistry from the main couple in the beginning but later on I felt like it disappeared. I also don’t feel like disability was handled particularly well. I did enjoy the descriptions of audiobook narrating as being like acting and all the thought that goes into it.

Julia Whelan delivers an absolute delight of a romcom, pulling from her own experience as a beloved audiobook narrator, to craft a witty, adorable winning read.

Not my favorite read. I did try to get into it but it did not live up to the hype for me. I would give this author another chance. Maybe this just wasn't for me.

Thank You For Listening is the exact kind of romance I want to read: So deliciously layered. There's humor and swoony romance and deep narrator voices and steamy kisses, but there is also characters working through grief and trauma in the best way they know how. When those elements intertwine into a cohesive story that is both heart-warming and -wrenching at the same time... it's just this catnip blend for me. Really a fantastic romance, and I can't wait to see what Julia Whelan puts out next.

ARC provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for a review.

Julia Whelan may have one of the most recognizable voices in audiobooks. It is fun to listen and read a book she both authored and narrated. Thank You for Listening is a fun rom-com book that also deals with some serious issues. I did find myself giggling aloud at some of the scenes. Good job, Julia!
