This was a really interesting book that glimpses into cultural Mexican lore and traditional folk magic. I chose this book to learn more about magic. Informed by Catholic beliefs, Aztec traditions, and Mexican healing arts. And while it does teach readers about spiritual cleansing through cleaning, candle casting and honoring the saints, it is more than just a reference or lesson-book. Dedicated to Mexican-Americans, this book is for those who feel they are both and neither, who are caught in-between. It explores ancestors and descendants, and seeks to reclaim the magical and religious traditions of Mexico. Filled with cultural advice, this book hopes to bring confidence back to the generation of Mexican-Americans who have been assimilated and colonized, and lets readers know that they are not alone. If you feel a pull back to the magic of your ancestors, this book is written for you.

A well-organized introduction to different practices that gives great insight into different approaches and the meanings behind them.

this is a great guide! as a tarot reader i found this book very interesting, and it was nice to see spirituality and craft from a different perspective and culture. Not much pretty imagery inside like seen on the cover, but Ruelas' writing makes up for it tenfold.

This is an excellent guide packed with information. I appreciate Ruelas's sensitivity to cultural appropriation, gender issues and other topics that are frequently misused by authors in this genre. Ruelas is the real deal and she/they have put out a really informative book. The lack of photos and images is more than made up for by the amount of good info.

This book was such a pleasant read. As a tarot reader it hard to find true content that explains that they are a tool and how to then use that tool. It was enjoyable to explore another witch culture and beliefs. The book was so well constructed, from layout, to content. The author was so great at explaining as well as to why the culture uses the recipes, spells, tarot etc. Highly Recommend. Great for a resource book as well.

This is such an interesting book, I recommend reading it.

I love this comprehensive look at this form of Mexican ritual and belief. The spells are easy to understand and need ingredients that are available. The techniques are straightforward and positive. I was not familiar with Santa Muerta before reading this book. After reading I now understand the importance many people have placed on her. My favorite work was the rain water money spell. It is easy to do and opens the roads to more income and opportunity. Very well written and conversational tone. This book will empower many people.

There’s no single religion, no single way of living, and no single type of Witch. This is why I enjoy reading about other practices in regions around the world. Sometimes they books are touching on my ancestors and other times I’m learning about the ancestors of others, but either way, I’m learning about my witch sisters around the world and I learn something new each and every time.

This book was superb and I loved learning about Brujeria and am ready to speak with the mother of one of my friends who is a practitioner. I greatly enjoyed reading this book and recommend it to anyone who is looking to learn more about Brujeria.

I enjoyed this book immensely! As someone of Afro-Indigenous blood, I was eager to read this book. I am so grateful for the chance to do so because I finally learned about Mexican Brujeria from someone who is about that life. I was sad that the book ended. A very good read!
