This is a thriller that I just couldn’t put down. The story was told from multiple POVs. The suspense was good with plenty of twists. A solid thriller
this was pretty boring and i had a tough time getting into it despite being interested in the premise. unfortunate!
It starts off slow but really picks up the pace. There's a lot to keep the tension and intrigue high until the end.
A bit confusing because there's so many names to keep track of, otherwise we'll written. Started off slow but worth reading. A childhood memory that resurfaces in adulthood. The memory is triggered when Christine and Richard, who are married, run an advertising agency. Jessica is an assistant there at the company. Christine cannot understand why Jessica’s presence alarms her so much so until she goes under hypnosis at her therapy appointment. Jessica sets her sights on Richard. Jessica’s father comes into the picture and Christine and Jessica are on course to spiral in ways that neither of them could see coming. Christine starts to realize her husband Richard is not as committed to her as she thinks. When things start Togo down and he makes a mistake with consequences that he realizes he cannot go back from. Is Jessica’s father may not be everything he seems. Thanks NetGalley and the publisher for the advance ecopy.
*Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this arc in exchange for my honest review*
Slow burn thriller that I found hard to guess who the villain was! All in all, a good book!
I really loved this book in a new to my series and author. I can't wait to read the next one. The characters and location really add to the plot. This book keeps you guessing until the end
This book has lots of in this book. When Jessica joins Christine and her husbands business Christine suspects Jessica is trying to come between them. Christine also has events from her past she is having a face. This book has lots of twists and turns, a great read.
That didn’t appeal much to me. Such a letdown.
Thanks to Netgalley! Hoping for a better read next time!
3 for neutral, was unable to access my netgalley account for months, until today. Because of this, I was unable to see which books I needed to read. I apologize for the inconvenience and hopefully will not have any more issues in future.
I really enjoyed this book. It was gripping from the very start and captured me until the very end. Would definitely recommend.
This was such a twisty tale that I couldnt put down. It actually started off slow but then it becomes clear. It is told by many POVs and has a past and present timeline. What an ending loved it.
What a sizzling mystery this book was! There was so much going on that I could not believe that she was able to put it together the way that she did. She really pulled off a great mystery here.
Would say 3.5 stars at a push. Found it very slow till about half way through and even after that I would say it held me but not to the point(as with some books) you don't want to put it down and keep reading that one more chapter.
I really wanted to love this book. It had so much potential, an interesting premise, and it felt like things were happening but it also came off as so underwhelming. It almost felt like the author tried to include a bunch of different elements to make the plot more enticing, but it was overdone, unfortunately.
Thanks netgalley for allowing me to read this great story which I really enjoyed.
Christine was a flower girl at a wedding, after the wedding she somehow was thrown into water by an unknown man and then pulled out by a boy.
Her memory was not great about the incident but she knew that she had been thrown into the water.
She then got married and had a successful business with her husband, until someone came to work with her that triggered something in her memory, and that is when her life was in danger.
Good story fully recommend it.
This was a wonderful suspense, with lots of twists. In my opinion, a great thriller.
There were many aspects of the book that made this read very enjoyable. Firstly, loved the multiple POVs. Secondly, loved the slow burning, suspense building element of the book.
However, I did find the multiple parts that the book was split into, hard to follow.
This book had me hooked from page one! My favorite part of reading this genre is when there are unexpected twists and turns, and the author of this novel delivered. Would definitely recommend!
I don't think I enjoyed this one as much as I should have or that my expectations held this at. Everything about the description sounded amazing, crazy psychological thriller, and I just got married so obviously After The Wedding, just made sense. I didn't really enjoy Jessica. I somewhat felt bad for her and other times I just didn't really like her much at all. I feel like enjoying the main characters in the book is a huge part of actually enjoying it. So, maybe I expected more, but this thriller didn't love up to my thriller expectations.
The book opens with a young five year old girl Christine, wandering off at a wedding and nearly drowning. Fast forward some years and we find Christine and her husband Richard running a successful advertising agency. They are recruiting new staff and hire a copywriter Jessica. She seems to bring new life into the business but Christine senses there is something amiss with her, Christine is still struggling all these years later with the trauma of the near drowning and decides to embark on hypnotherapy to bring out the memories and uncovers dark secrets that have been buried. The story is told from Christine and Jessica’s points of view and it is clear that there is more to Jessica’s past as the story unfolds. This book is a very gripping read with plenty of twists and turns. An enjoyable book.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
After the Wedding by Laura Elliot
I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture and I am leaving this review voluntarily
Everyone said she was the prettiest flower girl. But now her dress lies on the floor. It’s wet and torn, her shoes are lost. ‘Where did you go?’ her daddy asks. She shakes her head. All she can remember are the red rose petals scattering like drops of blood spilling to the ground.
When Christine Lewis was a little girl, she witnessed something terrible at a wedding and buried it so deep in her memory, she managed to forget it ever happened.
Jessica Newman was a baby when she and her father came to live in an isolated cottage on the Irish island of Cullain with Margaret – the woman who loved Jessica as if she was her own. Until the day Jessica and her father left, and she never saw Margaret again.
This was a bit disappointing - this has been marketed as a psychological thriller and I think that is misleading. An interesting plot that could have been written much better. The first half was slow, and very easy to walk away from. The pace picks up in the second half but I feel like the book dragged on a little too much.
