With the increase in screen time in all aspects of life it’s important for us to help our children learn when they’ve just had too much and how it affects their bodies.
Thank you!!

Polly and the Screen time Overload is a great little book to teach children about modern technology being great and useful but also about being mindful of how much time we spend in front of a screen. This is such a great subject to share, introduce and talk about with children today especially with how technology is everywhere and so easily accessible these days. So many children spend way too much time infrint of phone and tablet screens instead of playing outdoors, socialising in person and doing things that don't involve the Internet in some shape or form. In this book we meet Polly who is visiting her grandparents at their farm. Polly loves going to the farm and spending time with her grandparents, the animals and having fun. On this occasion Polly has a birthday celebration there and gets gifted a tablet off her aunt. Polly becomes engrossed with it and doesn't want to do anything else! It's only when the battery dies that Polly realises all that she has missed out on whilst being engrossed on it.
This book has a handy guide at thr back for parents and would be a great resource for any child to have read to them and discussed at some point, especially children in an educational environment as this would be a great book to spark a discussion with the children.

Polly and The Screen Time Overload
5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
40 pages
Ages 3-7

Description:
Introducing Kids to the Importance of Boundaries with Technology. Technology can be a helpful tool and source of enjoyment for many families―a way to aid children with learning, to connect with loved ones, and to provide entertainment. But as with many good gifts from God, tech devices are best used in moderation. In this new picture book, readers meet Polly while on a trip to her grandparents’ farm. During her visit she spends all her time on her new tablet instead of enjoying the farm animals and playing with her cousins. A chat with her grandfather teaches her that, though screen time can be good, it can also keep kids away from better things. Using simple language and beautiful illustrations, children ages 3–7 are introduced to the idea that technology is best enjoyed within limits.

Polly and The Screen Time Overload is a cute fun story to read to your kids about with an Important Message about self-control and moderation in tech habits. So many kids now a days spend so much time watching tv and on tablets and not enough time with family and nature. Both my girls age 7 and 5 loved this book. It had wonderful pictures on each page that they loved looking at. This has become one of their favorite books because of all the farm animals in it , and they ask me to read it about everyday. The pictures are bright , colorful and well done. Each page was very short and definitely captured their attention.

This book emphasizes the importance of experiencing real life rather than spending all of our time on a screen.

📱 This book is written for children ages 3 to 7, but honestly, it’s a good reminder to adults as well! I know I’ve gotten lost and distracted while scrolling through IG and TikTok and then wondered how in the world so much time had passed. And I should know better, right? I know I need to make a conscious effort to turn off the screen and get off the couch sometimes, but children definitely need to learn how to control screen time and why it is so important.

📱 This story is relatable for children and it could definitely be beneficial to your kids. It also includes tips in the back of the book for parents regarding ways to control nonproductive screen time for their kids.

Thank you @netgalley and the publisher Crossway for an eARC of this book, which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

I really enjoyed this book because it really shows how everyone is left out and time with others is lost when your nose is glued to your electronics.

An enormous surprise awaits Polly at her grandparents’house. She receives a tablet from her aunt as birthday present. Leaving behind all the fun at the farm, Polly is fully connected to the tablet. When the battery dies, Polly can see everything she missed while on the tablet.
The lessons she learns there with her granddad are welcome to be discussed with your little one.

I love Polly and the Screen Time Overload by Betsy Childs Howard! Polly and the Screen Time Overload tells the story of Polly. Polly is visiting her grandparents farm. Polly loves helping at the farm, helping out with the animals, being with her grandparents, and playing with her cousins. While at the farm, Polly’s birthday takes place. For her birthday, Polly’s Aunt gives Polly a tablet. Playing on her tablet is all that Polly wants to do. Polly does not want to help out with the animals, be with her grandparents, or playing with her cousins–just playing on her tablet. Once her tablet dies and needs charging, Polly realizes all she has missed. With her grandparents guidance, Polly figures out ways to set boundaries with her tablet in order to do all the things Polly loves.

I loved Polly and the Screen Time Overload from beginning to end. I was drawn to Polly and the Screen Time Overload because of it’s title and subject matter. I loved that Polly’s story was dealt with a Biblical approach and that it was written in such a way that young kids can understand and relate. The illustrations are adorable. There is also a “Note to Grownups” in the back that I believe has good tips and ideas on how to help the children in your life handle technology in a healthy manner. I believe Polly and the Screen Time Overload is a fantastic book for the whole family to read that teaches a timely lesson. If you are looking for a tool to help teach your child concerning technological boundaries with a Biblical perspective, then I highly recommend Polly and the Screen Time Overload!

I would like to thank NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

My review is also on Goodreads and my blog, Leslie's Library Escape.

Polly loves her time at her grandparents' farm, with her cousins next door and farm animals to have fun with. But on her birthday, her aunt gave her an iTab, that makes her forgot everything, despite spending holiday in the farm. A wonderful book that reminds the parents for making rules about iTab (and make sure the games downloaded don't tax the children.), also an exact screen time for kids.

Polly and the Screen Time Overload was a very simple, understandable way to explain screen time, unhealthy technology obsessions and what kids are missing when they spend all day on a tablet. Polly loves her family and the week she spends at the farm every year, but when she gets an iTab for her birthday, she forgets about everything that's not on the screen. By showing kids that there's a lot you'll miss if you never look up, I hope this book will help caregivers and parents remind young readers how much screens can take away from you. I didn't really notice the religion mentions throughout the book, and think it could easily be used by anyone, no matter their beliefs.

Polly and the Screen Time Overload
by Betsy Childs Howard; Illustrated by Samara Hardy

Rated: 4
Back of the Book: “This picture book uses simple language and beautiful illustrations to introduce children ages 3–7 to the idea that they need self-control and discernment in the way they use and enjoy technology. A TGC Kids book.”
Impressions: What a charming book with a needed message. Finding the balance of how much screen time can be a struggle as an adult. As this technology becomes a part of your families lives it is important to understand the pros and cons that go along with it. I think this book did a lovely job demonstrating to a child that there is a balance that must be had with technology. The verse at the beginning, 1 Corinthians 10:23, was a good reminder of why it is important as a parent to address this. Too much of a good thing is not good. The advice at the end was helpful guidance in navigating how to educate and set boundaries as a parent.
Quotes: “Your mom can help you figure out a plan for how to enjoy your iTab some of the time rather than all of the time.” – I think it is important for your child to be a part of the process in making the rules for their technology time and use. In including them it becomes personal and a respect for the rule is developed more naturally.

All things are lawful, but not all things are helpful. All things are lawful, but not all things build up. 1 Corinthians 10:23

Polly loves to go her grandparents house. They live on a farm with many things to do, to enjoy, and to spend time with family. When she receives an Ipad for her birthday, she looses out in the things that matter. This book is a great resource for parents and children in the importance to set boundaries. Why it can take us away from the things that really matter. Technology is not evil but God designed us to worship. It can be easy for us to worship the wrong things. So much to teach our children with the lessons that Polly learned. Highly recommend.

A special thank you to Crossway Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

I really liked the idea of this story. I am glad she found other things to do. I wish there was more balance and the setting was her home. It is often easier to put down screen when you re somewhere different. It is in your normal environment that screens are the biggest issue. It does have religious ties to it. I would have liken to see more of the negative consequences as well.

Introducing Kids to the Importance of Boundaries with Technology

Title: Polly and the Screen Time Overload

Polly is spending a week on her grandparents' farm. She loves to help with the animals and play with her cousins, but the gift of an iTab changes everything. How much will Polly miss?

Polly and the Screen Time Overload is an important children's book. It addresses the negative consequences of spending too much time on an iTab which can be interpreted as a video game, phone, computer, television, etc). Overuse of electronic devices is a growing problem and this book is an excellent elementary introduction to time management.

Betsy Childs Howard chose the perfect farm setting and Samara Hardy's illustrations added color and fun to a serious subject. Using animals as something to miss when playing on the screen too long was a smart choice. I read this to my 7 year old grandson and he instantly got the message. He said "I'm really sad that the animals got left out. If I had a iTab and never put it down, I would really miss my sister." His reaction to the story was priceless and his comment showed that this book is effective.

I will be purchasing two copies of Polly and the Screen Time Overload. One for my own collections and one for my grandson's teacher. It's an excellent resource and can be used for generations to follow.

Thank you, Crossway and NetGalley, for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest reivew. All opinions expressed are my own.

I think this will be a helpful resource for families as they address the issue of screen time with their early elementary age kiddos. The illustrations are delightful and the message is challenging and admonishing but in a gentle and winsome way. Very worthwhile children’s book on a super timely topic.

Grateful to Crossway Publishers and NetGalley for an advanced reader copy. The review is my own personal opinion.

A really cute story about the positives and negatives of technology. I really loved the lesson of using all of God's gifts instead of focusing on only one, it really helps puts things into perspective.

I love the concept of this book but was not expecting the religious angle. The message is good though!

Polly receives a tablet for her birthday and ends up spending so much time playing on it that she misses some of the activities she used to love at her grandparents’ house. She realizes that saying “yes” to screen time means saying “no” to other things like making forts with her cousins and feeding the farm animals with her grandparents.

Polly and the Screen Time Overload is a cute kids book that will help parents discuss screen time habits with their kids. The author has a few pages at the end to help parents think through ways to encourage healthy boundaries for their family.

[As a side note, one of the suggestions is setting aside a specific time to use screens—TV, tablet, etc. This is something we’ve done for a few years and has been one of the best decisions we made as a family regarding technology. It takes the pressure off of deciding every time someone asks to watch something, and our kids know they will need to find something else to do if they are bored. I’m not suggesting every family should have the same limits with screen time (and sometimes they change with different seasons of life), but this is an excellent way to decide how to set boundaries as a family.]

Firstly, I am thankful for the opportunity to have received a free copy of this eBook through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

This was a wonderful children’s picture book with delightful illustrations and a real message behind it, to kids as to what they can miss out on in life if they are always looking at their screens.

I rate this ebook 5 stars and would recommend to those parents with children who spend too much time in front of screens and not enough time outside enjoying life.

This is a medium length children's book about a little girl named Polly who spends every birthday at her grandparent's at the farm. She typically spends all day outside, with the chicken, cow, horse, and her cousins. This year, she also received a tablet for her birthday loaded with games. Will everything be different at the farm?

Very nice story, both my daughter and I enjoyed it.

This was a great Christian illustrated book. I like that rather than talk about the negativity of screen time they focused on time management. Explaining that sometimes a good thing can make us miss out on a great thing.
