This review based on an ARC of the guidebook made available by Andrews McMeel Publishing through NetGalley, with gratitude to both.

I read this guidebook over three the course of three mornings, drinking tea and reading through the meanings. I highly recommend the whole experience. I will absolutely be putting this deck on my to-buy list.

Roux's descriptions of the cards relies on the Victorian symbology of flowers mixed within a mythological framework. I loved that it included a wide selection of mythology, not relying entirely on the Greek pantheon, quite refreshing. Each explanation comes with at least two questions to draw the reader in give the querent space to reflect.

The combination of plants with animals works well together. I'm not particularly fond of animals & don't often connect with them in an oracle-deck context, but Roux's deck is one I really connected with.

Roux shared an example of her deck on her instagram page, which helped me visualize how the black & white images in the guidebook would look like in color - and I look forward to one day seeing the deck in person.

There were many cards that resonated with me, but the one that stood out the most was the questions related to the Vulture card, "How do you experience grief? How do I redefine myself after an upheaval?"

Roux also includes some possible card spreads in the introduction. I plan on using the six-card spread, one that combines a traditional tarot-deck with a favourite oracle deck.

If you are a tarot/oracle deck lover (or fiend) I highly recommend adding this one to your collection.

This is a great oracle deck! I adored the cards that I was able to see, and the LWB gives clear background and outlines of what each card represents.
I think this would be a great deck for those who are into hearth/kitchen/cottage witchcraft, those who like cottagecore, or anyone who likes woodland creatures and plants as well!

I was fascinated by the combination of animal and botanical and how well they worked together. Will definitely be thinking of purchasing a deck once it's released!

I'm not a new age-y person at all, but this deck appealed to me because of its pretty, clear, unfussy artwork, so I requested an ARC. What I received was the instructions booklet; which is fine -- it lists every card in detail with lots of insight into the animal and plant depicted and how you can apply these to your reading --, but I really would have liked a look at the actual cards in colour instead of just plain b&w. Still, I enjoyed the "Woodland Wardens" so much that I'll probably buy them for myself once they're released; I liked the down-to-earth way the author assigns the meanings to her cards, there's none of that flowery, over-the-top prose, just quiet hints and thoughts. Would have given 5 stars if I'd had the chance to get an impression of the actual cards; as it is, I can't really tell what they actually look like.
Very nice.

This is a beautiful deck and there's so many ways to use it for guidance, comfort and connection. The illustrations are beautiful, and I love the incorporation of victorian flower language and mythic motifs to draw you into a deeper state of understanding. I highly recommend it.

Jessica Roux works magic with her illustrations and this deck is no exception. The imagery is both evocative and comforting making this a must have oracle for any nature lover that enjoys a bit of whimsy.
The guide thats included is informative and thoughtfully done, a wonderful little companion to the deck.

Woodland Wardens is a gorgeous oracle card and accompanying book. Oracle cards are similar tarot cards and I loved the gorgeous animal illustrations. Children and adults will love this beautiful set!

Woodland Wardens is a delightfully illustrated Oracle Deck book by Jessica Roux. This was my first Tarot Card guidebook ever and I was pleasantly surprised to see how detailed the cards descriptions and meanings were. The illustrations are folksy and beautiful. My favorite card was the The Spider and Passionflower but they are all gorgeous. Jessica is a gifted artist and her instructions for how to use the cards were clear and concise. Perfect for anyone from beginner to expert.

Stop it right now. This is THE BEST oracle deck I’ve seen in a while. It appears to take from traditional Rider-Waite tarot only the distinct meaning of the cards and brings refreshing and dare I say, wholesome components.

For example, card 13 in Rider-Waite is “Death” and represented by death on a white stallion, but in this deck, it is called “an ending” and represented by a death moth in a wreath of eucalyptus. They mean the same thing, and are both stunning depictions, but the cottagecore girlies really deserved this deck.

Am I going to buy a copy when it’s released? ABSOLUTELY I AM.

Well, I’ve worked a long time trying to download to my iPad and Netgalley shelf. There’s no way to. I know says won’t work for kindle. It’s a pdf so it should be downloadable somewhere. Idk what deal is. If someone could please help me I will gladly review. I’m so sad I can’t open the file.

This collection would be beautiful for kids and adults alike for different reasons. The illustrations are the heart of this collection, and I feel like this would appeal to everyone, with the inscriptions on the back appealing to those who have a love of fauna and flora, animals, mythology, or just plain old whimsy.

This collection is fascinating because it incorporates varied forms of meaning to entail a story of the illustrated subjects.

As the writer suggested, I sporadically read these cards to enjoy the individuality of each card. It was beautiful passive learning, making for a collection that would be great for nature lovers or those who love a bit of lore.

This is the second by Jessice Roux that I’ve been fortunate enough to read advance copies of. Her artwork is beyond gorgeous and I’ve had a wonderful time reading both.

The cover and description both piqued my interest. The book itself kept my interest and then some. The charming, Victorian-vibe illustrations are just the icing in this wonderfully divine cake of a guide book and oracle deck and I’m planning on ordering this soon. My teens approved of this deck as well.

File type corrupted, Netgalley is unable to provide a readable file. I contacted them about the corrupt pdf and they responded that my program must be too old. I use ADE, which is the only file type they make available to me for download. Its too bad, this deck seems really beautiful and I would love to use the cards but Netgalley is being unhelpful and unwilling to take my complaint seriously.

*I looked into this issue, and multiple people have had this issue and you refuse to address it. This is the second book that has had this corrupt issue. Netgalley do better. I am willing to change my review once the issue is resolved, for example If there was a better way to read this one (normal PDF for instance and not a ASCM-locked PDF aka you need ADE), thank you

Life works in mysterious ways....right before this book became available to review, I stumbled upon Jessica Roux's work and became an instant fan. I was delighted when I saw this book appear on Netgalley as the timing was perfect.

In Woodland Wardens, Jessica Roux presents her oracle deck and guide book based on common woodland creatures and plants. Her earthy old world illustrations conjure an enchanting and whimsical vibe that will help readers attune to the magic of nature. Each oracle card contains many illustrative details that lend themselves to the meaning of the card...almost like secret messages. The message of each card was carefully considered by Roux who incorporated bits of mythology and folklore into her deck.

If you are a fan of her work, this book and deck is a must have for your collection, or if you are an oracle reader looking for a cozy and beautiful nature inspired set of cards, this would also be a lovely addition to your collection as well.

Thank you to the publisher for providing me with a free arc via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was very informative, I’m planning to get this beautiful deck so I can make my interpretations as this book says. The illustrations are so delicated and dreamy, I know this is the kind of art I cherish. I found the connections with nature very appropiated, it’s like very personal journey. I highly recomend this book to art and nature lovers, and, of course, tarot readers. This is a great opportunity to push your boundaries and use a new deck that it’s so special.

What a lovely read! It was very enlightening, as I didn’t know much about flora, fauna, and animals of the woods, but I greatly enjoyed learning about all of these things!

This author has done an amazing job in the illustrations included in this book. I would definitely go out and purchase the cards if available. The description was clear and easy to understand. The one-card spread is a great way to start your day. There were even several other spread examples that were great.

Great guidebook and LOVED the decks.

I was very excited and grateful for the chance to get an advanced look at this oracle guide! Unfortunately, I had many issues with the file, and it continually crashed in adobe digital. I only managed to get about 20 pages in, but what I saw was incredibly beautiful. A gentle, but firm, guide for the witchy soul who loves nature. 1 star removed for not being able to see the rest of it, otherwise would be 5!

Thank you for this arc! However, I’m sad to say that this didn’t work on my ADE. It crashed my phone multiple times while trying to read it and didn't work at all on my laptop, but what I was able to read was beautiful. I’m giving it 5 stars because I did enjoy what I read and I’m sad it didn’t work for me.
