❓QOTD: Have you ever heard a tall tale from an older relative?
It is astounding & perhaps triumphantly whimsical when a dream or pursuit requires the time or ability of multiple generations. When the past & present collide and necessitate attention in a certain direction.
🗺 The Last Mile 🧭 by Kat Martin (Out May 31st), has found a way to put this feeling, this restless situation, a fortuitous predicament of a lifetime, right onto the pages.
📖Abigail Holland always knew she was the granddaughter of infamous, career treasure hunter, King Farrell. And when one of his trips goes awry, she finds herself in a position to save his legacy, as she has just inherited one of his old treasure maps.
Well as they say… like grandfather, like granddaughter. And when she cannot resist the calling to chase after the renown Devil’s Gold, she pursues the special assistance of a different kind of treasure hunter. Confident, adventurous, headstrong, & dashingly handsome, Gage Logan, who she thinks would be great partner in leading the expedition. However, Gage has other feelings, especially about leadership.
🥾🗺After a good look at the map & a bit of a hunch, their story takes off as a focused quest & adventure into the mountains, & evolves into a steamy love story.💕
This book features the “forced proximity” troupe we all know and are loving right now, while also reveling in a bit of an old fashioned perspective, at times. Abigail, who is positively obdurate, keeps our dashing friend Gage Logan on his toes, creating only the most riveting of dynamics.😊
❓Will they be able to find the treasure?
❓Will they save Abagail’s grandfather’s legacy?
❓Where else will this journey take them?

...for the opportunity to read The Last Mile in exchange for my review!

This book is about Abigail Holland who is convinced that a treasure map her grandfather left her, leads to long lost gold. She teams up with Gage Holland a treasure hunter to go retrieve it. The situation is complicated by their attraction to one another and by the various people trying to get the gold.
This was a fun and enjoyable book to read but not one to take seriously. I have been reviewing many books recently and Ms. Martin’s writing was breath of fresh air. It was nice to read an overall well written, grammatically correct, and readable book. I liked both the characters and enjoyed the plot. Having said it felt a bit like Lara Croft, Tomb Raider. There were so many aspects of the plot that were unbelievable and lacked realism that one just said, “oh well” and went with the flow. I guessed two core components of the plot early one. There were holes in the plot here and there, especially the whole Arizona thing. I didn’t get the attraction between Abigail and Gage and his reasons for staying away didn’t make any sense. And the scene at the end where Gage had to rescue her was a bit silly (though I am guessing it was supposed to a catalyst for Gage). Having said that it was a well written book, I enjoy Ms. Martin’s writing. The book was fun to read if you went in realizing its nowhere near realistic and one is just there to read and have fun. Rather like watching Lara Croft!
I received a free copy of this book from Kensington via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Fast paced adventure is at the heart of this book with added romance. The writer has written a captivating story that will be sure to keep you on your toes. A worthwhile read!

This book was so good! I want to see more from this author in the future!! I couldn't put this book down. What a page turner!!!

Fast paced adventure with a healthy amount of romance thrown in. Kept me interested and entertained.
Thank you NetGalley for this arc

Unfortunately, Abigail Holland clearly fits into the too-dim-to-live description of a heroine who hears someone in her old house in the middle of the night – and does not call the police but sneaks down to investigate without her phone. Not brave, ridiculous. And then continues to be the girl who needs rescuing from stereotyped Mexican bad guys by the handsome hero at every opportunity.
There is no subtlety or layers of subplots in this very light romance where action and drama are replaced with insta-lust and very tired and cliched descriptions of sex scenes.
Sorry. Not for me.

Good chemistry...a thrilling treasure hunt... fast paced and well written this is a great read to get lost in.

This is book 2 of the Blood Ties series and the third book of the series and is an exciting romantic suspense by Kat Martin. The Last Mile follows Abby Holland and Gage Logan as they hunt for a lost treasure worth a fortune based on a clue her grandfather left her. Gage and Abby have instant chemistry but he learned long ago to separate business and pleasure and keeps his distance as much as possible even as the danger level in their expedition increases. The couple are well suited and likeable even if they find reasons to avoid each other. Gage has some relationship baggage and Abby is aware of his reputation, but they are drawn to each other. Their characters are complex, passionate and compelling and the storyline is riveting and engaging. The other characters in the book are also fascinating and I hope they will re-appear in their own books. Great story that keep the reader engaged in the adventure. Thank you to the publisher, author and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

4.5 Last Mile Stars🌟
Abby comes back to Denver when her grandfather’s will is read and she decides she’s going to find the final treasure that he died before finding and revealing its location❣️Abby approaches Gage as he’s a well known treasure hunter and explorer. However, the journey is fraught with danger and many people who are aware of the expedition as well as what’s most at risk….their lives😳
Abby and Gage are perfect together and I enjoyed their treasure hunting antics as well as the secondary characters that were introduced😍 I look forward to finding out more about Edge and the team he works for as well as his love interest….who I’m hoping is Skye😉
I want to thank Netgalley and the publisher for my advanced copy and I willingly leave my honest review❤️

I have enjoyed Kat Martin's romantic suspense in the past and was excited to read this book. While I have not read book one in this series, I didn't feel lost with this book and I enjoyed it.

An exciting romantic suspense, The Last Mile follows Abby Holland and Gage Logan as they hunt for a lost treasure worth hundreds of millions of dollars. When Abby inherits a map from her grandfather that could lead to immense wealth, Abby’s life becomes endangered. So, Abby hires Gage Logan, a respected explorer and treasure hunter to help her find The Devil’s Gold, a treasure her grandfather searched for for years.
Gage and Abby have an instant connection, but Gage learned from past mistakes never to mix business with pleasure. As their journey becomes increasingly dangerous, Gage and Abby must find the elusive Devil’s Gold, avoid the targets on their backs, deal with their ever-growing feelings, and redeem her grandfather’s good name?
This was an engaging and suspenseful read with great characters and a wonderful romance. I love romances with a treasure hunting component, and Abby and Gabe’s excursions are rife with adventure, danger, and passion. Abby and Gage go on an epic journey – think National Treasure with more romance!! Their journey is exciting and dangerous, as nature and man test them at every turn. It’s an intriguing adventure with many heart-pounding moments.
Gage and Abby make a good team. They are both independent, intelligent, and capable, and they work together well. Plus, they have amazing chemistry!! However, fears that stem from past tragedies and heartaches stop the couple from acting on their feelings, and they try to keep things strictly professional. Gage in particular has some guilt that haunts him and prevents him from committing to one person. Deep-seated fears limit his romantic relationships, and he has to face some of these issues if he wants a future with Abby.
Abby knows of Gage’s reputation with women and wants more than a fling. She also fears that she is putting his life in unnecessary danger, and though she has admired him for years, so hesitates to act on her impulses. Through it all, they are drawn to each other, and their relationship grows as they learn to trust and depend on each other. They are both layered characters, complex and dynamic, and their romance is filled with sexual tension, angst, and passion.
I also liked the secondary characters and am eager to learn more about several of them. Though several were protagonists in earlier books in the series, I have a feeling that several of Gabe’s other friends, brother, and colleagues will be the focus of future books in the series (fingers crossed!). I believe Gage’s brother Edge is the focus of the next story. He is an enigmatic character, and I can’t wait to read his story!
I’m enjoying this series, as I enjoy all of Martin’s books, and I like that, though the characters are connected, their journeys and situations are all unique. The stories are engaging, the characters are compelling, and the romances are fantastic!! The Last Mile is no exception. I’m so thankful to Kensington Books and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of the book, and I would definitely recommend it to readers of romance and romantic suspense.

A story full of action, suspense and some sexy scenes. Abby knows that she has to find the secret spot where the lost treasure is buried. She has to do it for her grandfather King. They were meant to go and find it together but he is dead and she has been left the map to find it. She can't do it alone so she reaches out to Gage Logan who is a known treasure. But will he accept her offer?
Gage knows that this could be a bad idea as he still hasn't recovered after the last time taking a woman on an expedition. But he hopes that Abby is different.
The trip isn't plain sailing as others want to find the treasure and they will stop at nothing to get it. Can Gage keep Abby safe from certain death? A shocking discovery is made that will change everything. Can Abby go on?
They know that whatever they have now will be over when they return home but will they be willing to walk away from each other?
A great thrilling read. Love the Logan brothers they are such eye candy. Abby is strong & fierce love her character.
All the characters good & bad brought something to the story.
Highly recommended read.
I received an ARC copy from Netgalley and the publisher. This is my honest voluntary review

Gage is an adventurer. He finds treasures all over the world but he doesn’t do relationships. Then Abby walks into his office to hire him to find the Devil’s Gold using the map her grandfather left her. ARC from NetGalley.

I have loved every book I have read by this author. Kat Martin is on my short list of authors taht can really write a fantastic romantic suspense book. This was another winner. I loved the story of Abigail and Gage. From start to end, they kept me wanting more. I loved seeing their relationship develop throughout this story. I also loved the suspense aspect of the story. Totally had an Indiana Jones vibe. Loved it!

Abigail has inherited a treasure map from her Grandfather who spent years looking for the Devils Gold. Many thought he was a delusional old man and the treasure didn’t exist. Abigail enlists a famous treasure hunter, Gage Logan to help prove her Grandfather was right. The adventure to find the treasure runs into all sorts of obstacles and danger. It was a good read with plenty of action, suspense and romance. This book is part of a series but could be read as a stand alone. Thank you to net-galley for an advanced readers copy.

Abby Holland was gifted a treasure map after her grandfather passed away. Gage Logan is a known legend for finding lost treasures. Abby is resilient, brave, and determined to finish the job her grandfather wasn't able to finish. Abby and Gage find themselves deeply attracted to one another but Gage won't allow himself to love after a tragic accident in his past. Gage and Abby develop a very STEAMY relationship but will it be enough to forgive himself for the past? He struggles with this even more as they are put in multiple dangerous situations during their treasure hunt.
I feel like this book was pretty predictable. I liked Abby a lot. I didn't like the way Gage spoke. Overall, it was a decent book. I did like the first book in this series better though. As a mentioned above, there were some very steamy parts!

The Last Mile (book 2 in the Blood Ties series) was one adventure after another as Abigail Holland hires treasure hunter Gage Logan to help her find the gold that her grandfather told her was still hidden treasure. It was fun and had a bit of a mystery to it as well. This is one of those books you don't want to put down because you just need to find out what happens right now! It isn't really necessary to have read the first book, The Last Goodnight, but it's great as well. One Last Chance will finish the series with Gage's brother Edge's story later this year and I can't wait for it!
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review. All opinions are my own.
Publishes 31 May 2022.

The second book in this series is absolutely a standalone. I've read the first book in this series, and other than some scenes in the headquarters, this book has little to do with the first.
Abby's recently deceased treasure seeking grandfather left her a treasure map. He always found what he was looking for so she believes this map is the real deal.
Gabe is also a treasure seeker and admired Abby's grandfather. When she comes to him with the map and a proposition, he jumps on board.
Abby insists on accompanying Gabe on the trip. Gabe isn't enthusiastic about this because of an incident early in his career. It's Abby's map, so either she goes with him or goes on her own. He chooses wisely!!
So much great story here. Mystery, legends, attraction, bad memories, and then an unexpected plot twist. Whew...great ending.
I've been a fan of Ms. Martin for years. I enjoyed this book.
Thanks to Kensington and NetGalley for a early copy of this book. The review is my own.

A treasure map, a determined assailant, a family legacy, and a budding passion. The Last Mile has it all.
A young woman teams up with a professional treasure hunter to prove that her grandfather’s map is real. But shadowy figures are determined to get to the gold first, even if a murder or two will do the trick.
