Wild Kilted Yoga is a well-photographed book featuring yoga teacher Finlay Wilson shirtless and commando in a kilt doing yoga poses with a brief explanation of the poses and a few sequences.

This book is great as a coffee table book, but not really very valuable for teaching yoga. The settings were gorgeous and serene and Finlay looks blissed out in every photo. The minimal type and font choice give the book a lovely, clean feel. However, the descriptions of the entry and exit of poses as well as proper form were not comprehensive enough for me. I tested a few of the descriptions and was unable to get into the proper pose just following the text in the book. I also thought the kilts and the uneven surfaces prevented the ability to see the pose alignment properly. Full disclosure: I am a licensed yoga instructor so these things concern me due to the potential for injury.

Wild Kilted Yoga is a great piece of manly, yogic eye candy, but would skip the expectation that there is instructive content.

Wild. Kilted. Yoga. Three words that make you backup and say “Yes, Please!”

This is one of the best books ever created! In fact I think it should grace everyone’s coffee table and it is sure to get the conversations started 😉 There is something for everyone in this book as the reader escapes to Scotland and enjoys the breathtaking landscapes, beautiful glens, crystal clear lochs and of course the examples of many different yoga positions.

A MUST HAVE BOOK!

I want to tell you about this amazing new book out today called Wild Kilted Yoga.

What's it about you ask? Oh only the greatest thing known to womankind. Kilted yoga. Yes, that's right. Men in kilts doing yoga. I repeat - men. in kilts. doing yoga.

Naturally when this showed up on NetGalley I knew I needed to request it. And it did not disappoint. The book is divided into sections that focus on different elements - earth, air, water etc. And has a different yoga sequence, Scottish location and PICTURES for each. So there's yoga for when you find yourself by a river, on a mountain, on a beach & in a Scottish forest (ya know for when you might be looking for the standing stones...)

The poses get more intricate (and dare I say revealing?) as the book goes on. There’s even poses for couples! 😉😉😉

This book will definitely be the perfect conversation starter for any coffee (or bedside 😉) table.

So snag one today for your best friend, your girl friends and your significant other for inspiration, of course.

Thank you to Mobius Books for the advanced copy of this book.

Wild Kilted Yoga is a beautifully photographed and well written guide with tutorials of yoga poses from beginner to advanced by Finlay Wilson. Due out 15th March 2022 from Hatchette on their Mobius imprint, it's 160 pages and will be available in hardcover and ebook formats (ebook available now).

This is such an appealing book with beautiful photographs of yoga poses in peaceful outdoor settings featuring an anatomically attractive man in a kilt. Most of the poses are solo, there are some more complex poses at the end of the book with two models (both kilted). Each of the poses pictured is described anatomically: "Lie on the back, palms facing up, legs flopped out to the sides. Relax completely". There is a fair bit of additional commentary about what readers might be feeling or why a particular pose is useful and what it's for.

There is an index, but no table of contents in the eARC provided for review. In addition to the well described and photographed yoga, there are numerous nature photographs showing the beauty of the Scottish fauna. The models are performing the poses without underclothes but they're well fig-leafed and there's nothing egregious in the photos at all. (There is one single cheeky backside shot punctuating the very end of the book - but it's absolutely not provocative in any way).

Five stars. An admittedly niche book, but useful and information rich along with being beautifully photographed.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

What a unique and fun book! There's nothing not to like in this book -- gorgeous photos of Scotland, gorgeous photos of Wilson in nothing but a kilt (and from the very last page from behind, we do see that it's indeed nothing!), great yoga poses and a really interesting perspective -- the poses are broken down into four series that follow the elements of fire, earth, water and wind, each series in a different phenomenal Scottish landscape.

I have to say that I often thought Wilson's knees or toes had to hurt on some of the rocks he posed on, but he recommends a soft mat for the rest of us. He is so likeable and I wanted to go do the poses (inside or out) the whole time I was reading.

I read a digital ARC of this book for review.

I have to be honest here. I snagged this book for the cover. That is a great photo, the wilds of Scotland, a handsome man in a kilt being all bendy. It hooks you but the yoga instruction is amazing. The photography is stunning. This book could be a coffee table book but it will live in your exercise area!

The explanations for each yoga sequence and breathing technique are easy to understand and concise. Finlay put you are ease and lets you know to be kind to your body. His thoughts on Scotland, nature and tartan touched my heart.

There are five yoga sequences with instructions and lush photography : Fire, Water, Earth, Air and Aether / Space ( partner yoga). This book is everything you need to get started in a home yoga practice and gain confidence in your body.

Cheeky!

I showed a colleague at our library my ARC and she immediately wrote down the title. I mentioned this book at a library book club and one of our patrons asked when we were getting a copy. There's interest.

And why shouldn't there be? Take something as beautiful as yoga, photograph it in stunning landscapes, and add the naughtiness and unexpectedness of a kilt worn traditionally and you have an attention grabber.

I can't attest to the quality and thoroughness of the position instruction (I barely noticed that there were words on the page), but I will tell you that all photos are discrete until the last page when our author is in an inverted pose facing away from the camera.

Well this was certainly…. Wild.
I have to say if kilted yoga wasn’t a thing it should be. The book takes you through various elements and there poses. The kilt was a unique way to really make the pictures stand out and gives us a bit of history behind the owner of it. The last chapter was charming using a partner in yoga… very photogenic. I also laughed at the last photo depicting The End.

The book was very lovely, I happen to love yoga and the step by step was great. Most of the pictures were done in rocky areas, whereas I prefer a yoga mat. Great book, I’ll have to check the author out on social media! Five stars for Wolf Kilted Yoga!

I saw the cover and the title and as one who loves yoga and photographs of Scotland, I had to try this one out! Finlay is an expert yogi who provides his backstory. I appreciate the relevance of what he has to share and how he came to be where he is today. The story behind the tartans is quite interesting as well. The sequences provided are based on the elements, fire, water earth, and air. Each of the sequences are broken into very digestible pieces with excellent step by step photos provided (great for beginners). It is like a video put into slow-mo with freeze frame provided for each of the poses. In addition to the pictures, the written explanations are clear, precise, and accurate (there are also some variations provided if needed). Many of these flows are similar to ones I have been doing for years and concur on their many benefits. I really enjoyed the tour through Scottish country and picked up a few things for my own yoga practice as well. Enjoy this gift!

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley and all opinions expressed are solely my own, freely given.
