While the poems in this collection are short and easy to understand, I didn’t connect with them on the emotional level I was hoping for. There seemed to be something missing, a certain depth or feeling that I craved.
#BrushStrokes #NetGalley.

This poetry collection follows how we experience love in all of its forms and through its life cycle. The poems interweaves the author’s emotions towards family, partner and life and encompasses love, pain, and happiness.
I enjoyed reading the poems and identified with some of them. As with most poetry, I don’t always get it on its deepest levels, but by just letting it wash over me, I always get something out of it. The author opens up about her own life and creates a connection with the reader. It was a quick read, and I really enjoyed it.

I don’t want to be mean, but very few of the poems in this collection felt like they had any depth to me. I might have been wowed by them as a teenager who had just begun reading poetry, but not anymore.

I loved the poems in this book. They were beautiful and easily understood. So wonderful. I will definitely be reading more by this author. So lovely.

This author is one of my favorites. This book was good but it's not like her other books. This has quite a different feel. This book is just what it is, a book, no feel to it. It feels like a beginner writing a poem. The cover is beautiful just like the author but just not this book. I feel so bad writing this.
I received a free copy of the book and is voluntarily writing a review

I can't say I am a person who reads lots of poetry, but every once in a while my mind just screams for poems and that's how scrolling through NetGalley I found Brush Strokes.
Written by Sonja Djurisevic, Brush Strokes is a collection of poems, divided into chapters Tears, Cure, Love we follow a story about life, family and love.
Chapter Cure is where I found some of the poems- Peace, Freedom, I love myself and Wish which are the ones that resonated the most to me.
Although all the poems are short and easy to understand, I didn't feel them on the level I wished for and felt that there was a bit of emotion lacking.

I felt like this collection had nothing new to say. The poetry didn't have any nuance to it. The writing was extremely simple to the point where it felt like sentences jotted together. I really didn't enjoy this collection.

It was beautiful but I didn’t feel the emotions and inspiration the way I did with other poetry. It felt like I was reading rather than feeling.

"I knew from the moment I saw you You would be my greatest love Or my greatest regret"
Poetry is such a personal thing that I always feel bad when I don't love a collection. You can tell that the author really cared about what they were writing, however the collection just fell short for me. While it was not bad in the slightest, the depth of the poetry's language just felt incomplete. Overall, if you are new to poetry and want a collection that is easy to read and understand, then I would recommend this book. However, as a somewhat seasoned reader of poetry, I have fairly high expectations for what it takes to get a 4 or 5 star from me.
Arc received via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I feel deeply for these lines. I find them quite personal and relatable.
Thank you, Butterdragons Publishing, for the advance reading copy.
The poetry collection is short. Each poetry follows the same pattern. The lines are pretty beautiful. The language used is quite easy to follow I would say.
This collection is apt for beginners as well as for the avid poetry lovers who constantly follow insta poetry. You will love this collection if you're a fan of Rupi Kaur and Amanda Lovelace like me!
