4.5 I loved this book. This story follows Cassie who has a one night stand with a woman she met in a bar. The next morning she is supposed to meet her best friends mom for breakfast when she arrives it’s the woman from the bar. Cassie try’s to navigate her relationships with her best friend Parker and her mom Erin. The love story in this book was adorable and I just really liked the characters. I will say there are quite a few spicy scenes in this book so be forewarned. I flew through this book in a day and hope to pick up more from this author in the future. I would like to thank Netgalley and the publishers for a chance to read this book for an honest review.

This was definitely an enjoyable age-gap romance! I’m not a huge insta-lusty person (and these characters act on their attraction within the first chapter), but the characters were really well thought out and I liked how they were together - the banter, the spice, the development. Parker was a hard character to get on board with before I fully understood the age gap that existed within the friend group also, and that she is indeed only 18. Will definitely be picking up more from this author…beyond excited for their September release!!

ok this was both fun and incredibly stressful. I think you have to suspend your disbelief at the unrealistic elements and just enjoy, or else you'll be like me and be worried the whole time about Cassie & Erin getting caught!!

-So much bisexual rep!
-Sex scenes were plentiful & hot!
-Totally different than the slow burn of Wilsner's first book, Something to Talk About

Thanks to the publisher and netgalley for e-ARC

Let me tell you that by the end of the first chapter, I knew I was in for a wild ride. I think I underestimated just how wild a ride it would be.

The long and short of the plot is this: college senior Cassie hooks up with her friend’s mom without knowing who she is and vice versa. They try to keep things ~professional~ after that but find themselves drawn to each other over and over.

These characters. My god. I fell in love with all of them. I kept wanting them to keep it all a secret but also wanted them to just be open to everyone, especially the daughter/best friend who’s in the middle of all of this.

If you’ve got anxiety about this plot and the tightrope required for navigating situations like this, go in prepared to put the books down and take some laps involving deep breathing. I certainly did. But I still found myself unable to step away for too long.

4 stars.

This age gap romance was so spicy and emotional and impeccably well written. The character growth and tenderness? Amazing. The beautiful friendships? Wonderful.

This was honestly such a refreshing romance. I loved Cassie and Erin and am obsessed with their story. Did I mention it is 🔥🔥🔥?

Thank you @netgalley for an arc of this!!

I LOVED THIS BOOK! It is everything I like in a romance, especially in a year where I haven't really been feeling the new releases and have been going back to reread old favorites. It is an age gap romance, which generally isn't my thing, but I must say - I was into it. We get both a lesbian and bi character, which we love to see. We also get a friend's mom troupe. Unexpected to enjoy, but there you have it.

If you are looking for a cute and tame Sapphic romance, move along - this one is SPICY! We get so many good scenes between our two main characters, but we also get good character development as a couple and as individuals. I really just loved everything about this novel. It may be a bit unrealistic, but lets be real, most romances are. If this title intrigues you even a little, READ IT! If you were a little underwhelmed by the author's last novel, still read this - the author has significant growth between novels in my opinion. This book deserves so much love!

Thank you to St. Martin's Griffin and Netgalley for the advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The infamous MILF book

This book pulls off some difficult tropes beautifully. Best friend's mother and age gap can easily go wrong, but Wilsner manages to make them not only palatable but sexy then convincingly romantic. This book also strikes an excellent balance with spice and romance. Some spicy books fall back on sex as the backbone of the characters connection. But we all know relationships are so much more than physical and it just doesn't feel right if there's no emotional chemistry built up

The emotional build up is so good in this book and perfectly balanced with all the smut. Of which there is plenty.

And I love a dual POV and smart women finding the amazing partner they deserve.

Phew! This was a steamy, steamy, age gap romance. There's nothing slow burn about it--we jump directly into our two main characters, Cassie and Erin, having an ill-advised hookup. That Cassie is best friends with Erin's daughter is revealed shortly after...and THEN we get to see these two create a really interesting, believable relationship beyond their obvious physical connection.

There's definitely taboo here, but I didn't mind that part. I thought that we got enough of what motivated each character and why this relationship worked for each of them. It's not the deepest, most emotional of stories, but that's okay. It's a hot, fun sapphic romance, and on that level it works really well.

Soooooo....I truly tried to like this book, but I really can't. I find it a bit to read cause it's your best friend parent you are hooking up with. I am all about reading different types of smutt or tabboo, but sleeping with your best friend parent is a no. There are plenty of people in the world that you can hook up with. But your best friend parent isn't one of them. It's crossing a hard no. And that's what all I thought about while I read this book.

I adored this sapphic romance - I had a hard time putting this one down and finished it within a few days. Sapphic with an age gap, best friends mom? I highly recommend this one and will be interested in checking out this author’s next work.

While I did enjoy the unique perspective and steamy aspects of the story. I couldn’t get past the mom/daughter’s friend relationship and everything that comes along with that dynamic. Overall, it was an entertaining read and kept me engaged but it was not my favorite.

I will read anything Meryl Wilsner writes. This funny, steamy forbidden age-gap romcom has so much to love about it, but I really appreciated how realistic the issues were in this MILF relationship! I could not put this book down, and have been recommending it to all my friends.

Thanks to St. MArtin's and NetGalley for the copy to review.

Not the type of book i would normally read but this turned out to be a sexy, emotional, beautiful story about two women who find love after everyone has been telling them they shouldn’t. They decide to choose each other and themselves against all odds. It is also VERY steamy!!

I thought this book was fine. I didn't love it like most people did. There were plenty of steamy scenes in the book...but I didn't feel like there was a huge connection between Erin and Cassie. I also didn't connect well with the characters. The only one I really liked was Acacia.

The plot was just hard for me too. I don't want to give anything away...it just wasn't for me.

Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for my copy in exchange for my honest review.

The sapphics are thriving!

This was surprisingly sweet and unsurprisingly raunchy as all hell. This book is tightly-plotted, steamy, and all-around delightful. The taboo really is not that taboo-y (which is how I like it, if I'm honest), but it was fun and emotional and all-around satisfying.

Thanks to St. Martin's and NetGalley for the ARC.

I can’t believe it took me so long to finally read this.

What went from funny and steamy, with me playing Stacy’s Mom because I couldn’t get the song out of my head (gee I wonder why) definitely shifts into a more emotional story that had me rooting for the main characters’ HEAs

Was this spicy? Yes. Was it for me? No. I’m all for the sapphic, age gap romance. But I can’t get over the whole best friend’s mom thing. Who goes there with their BFF’s mom!? Otherwise, a well written and spicy book.

Mistakes Were Made had me on the edge of my seat with nervous energy! Cassie hooks up with a gorgeous woman at the bar and she ends up being…her FRIEND’S MOM! They had great chemistry but I was so nervous for them to get caught! I think that made it a good book! I was just as nervous as they were for Erin’s daughter to find out.

All in all it was an entertaining, steamy read with a lot of heart! I will def be reading more from this author in the future!

Well, I finally read the milf book! I had a really great time with this story, despite some initial hesitations that I’ll mention later. Both of our main characters, Cassie and Erin, were well developed and fun to read from and I adored the progression of their relationship from a hook up to an ‘oh shit!’ moment to something really tender and full of feeling. Their chemistry was, of course, brilliant and the sex scenes were well written with an obvious passion. It wasn’t just the steamy scenes that were well written — I was immediately hooked by Wilsner’s writing and flew through this book over just a couple of days.

I was a bit hesitant going into Mistakes Were Made as age gaps have never really been my thing in books but, as it turns out, when the age gap is sapphic and the love interest is a milf, it’s a lot more enjoyable! Joking aside, I really enjoyed the way this age gap was written and I think part of that is getting both Cassie and Erin’s perspective and knowing that they were both equally committed and attracted to one another. I also appreciated in this sense that the age gap and relationship dynamic were acknowledged as something that could be problematic but both characters (especially Cassie) made it clear that, in this case, it wasn’t. This was a continual process throughout the book which meant that everything was properly addressed and the characters had time to work through their feelings about it, particularly Erin who was aware of how the power dynamic favoured her. It really settled me more in the book and allowed me to enjoy and root for the romance a lot more than previous age gap romances I’ve read, including a sapphic one!

If you want a tender book about horny messes and milfs with a side helping of learning to put yourself first and growing into yourself as a new adult finishing college, then I highly recommend you pick up this book! After so thoroughly enjoying Mistakes Were Made, I am eagerly awaiting Cleat Cute, Wilsner’s next sapphic romance, and will be looking out for their future work!
