Sigh. Another "not great but not bad" book! I was surprised, because I loved the first two in this series. I think maybe it hit a little too close to home, with some "hot button" issues in today's society. If you read to escape, give this one a miss.

I was so so happy to be back with Alice Vega and all her badassery in this new installment. And of course, being back with Caplan and Nell. This was another great addition to this series and I've got my fingers crossed that we'll get even more Alice Vega in the future.

Hideout by Louisa Luna is the third installment in the Alice Vega series.

Vega is a likeable, admirable, and tough private investigator who specializes in finding missing persons.

In this novel, ,Vega is hired to locate Zeb Williams, a former college football player who vanished in 1984 after scoring a touchdown for the wrong team. Her search leads her to a small town in Oregon, where she encounters the Liberty Boys, a group of white supremacists

Hideout is a gripping and suspenseful thriller that explores the themes of racism, extremism, and identity. Luna’s writing is sharp and engaging, creating a vivid sense of place and atmosphere.

The characters are well-developed and complex, especially Vega, who is a badass heroine with a soft spot for the vulnerable and the oppressed. The plot is fast-paced and twisty, with plenty of action and surprises. Fans of the previous books in the series will enjoy the dynamic between Vega and Cap, who have a strong chemistry and a mutual respect.

Hideout is a satisfying and thrilling read that will keep you hooked until the end.

A good mystery and plenty of twists and turns and unexpected developments. This was story 3 and it was unnecessary to read the other two to enjoy this. Alice Vega and her team are on the trail of an unsolved adventure. Football star, Zeb Williams, disappeared in 1984 and they want to find him more than 30 years later. As Alice investigates we encounter the people who knew him then. Each has their own story and connections. There are a myriad of people in the investigation but Louisa Luna makes it clear through the story. An enjoyable read.

Alice Vega is back in installment #3 of this PI series. In this instance, Alice is hired by a wealthy man to find his wife's ex-boyfriend, college football player Zeb Williams, who ran off the field 3o years earlier during a game in which he scored for the opposing team. Armed with only a photo of Zeb in a coffee shop in Ilona, OR, Alice sets out to find Zeb. What she finds is a small-town hiding a network of white supremacists.
Alice is a tough woman, not afraid to put herself in dangerous situations, but this time, the danger begins to hit too close to home, and puts the lives of those she loves in danger as well.
Alice won't stop until she completes the job she was hired to do, but it looks like she hits a dead end in this cold case.
I thought the exposure of the subculture was interesting and important. I was a bit surprised by the ending, but thought it was handled well. I look forward to more from Louisa Luna!
Thanks to NetGalley for the copy, all opinions are my own and freely given.

I struggled with this book for some reason. I am not sure why, I really liked the character of Alice Vega and I liked the storyline, but I just couldn't get into it.

I think if I read the series from the start, I would have been much more into it.

Louisa Luna has done it again! Hideout is the third in the Alice Vega series. PI Alice Vega is on the case of an athlete missing for the last thirty years. It is possibly to tune into this novel without having read the previous books in the series. There is plenty of solid mystery and character development. Highly recommended!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher of this novel for the E-Arc copy. I am rating this book based on my own personal opinion and was not given anything in return. I am not leaving a entire review because I read so many at a time that I physically cannot right now.

I have enjoyed all 3 books in this series with a female detective. Very fast paced and a good mystery to uncover as she investigates missing person cases. Some parts seemed A little far fetched, but overall it was an entertaining book.

I was drawn to this book by the blurb but had not read the previous two books in this series (this being book 3). I don't feel I have missed anything by not having read the previous two books and would classify this as a stand alone book as well as a series.

Alice Vega is what I call a sleuth and like a dog with a bone she won't stop until she uncovers the answer to whatever mystery she is trying to solve. A cold case, terrorists, hate groups and all the suspense and intrigue you could possible want. I love Alice's nerve, here get in there attitude and her determination.

The story is for the most part good but sometimes unbelievable. It is exciting, full of thrills, adventure and even a scary moment or two. It is a bit edge of your seat, a bit out there and a good read all in all. I enjoyed it.

PI Alice Vega had been tasked with finding Zeb Williams, an athlete who was famous for ‘the run’, something no one could understand. He’d vanished thirty years prior and although he’d been looked for many times, he was still missing. What Vega uncovered in the small town of Ilona – the last place Zeb had been seen – was white supremacists and a gang – the Liberty Boys - so cruel and vicious that she was determined to take them all down.

While ex-cop Max Caplan and Vega were normally partners in the PI business, they were estranged because of a previous case. So Vega did it all on her own. The obvious danger to her wasn’t something she thought too much about, her infiltration of the Liberty Boys more important to her case. But when it affected her father as well as Cap’s daughter Nell, it made her angry. Would Vega succeed in her wish to oust the members of the Liberty Boys? And would she find Zeb Williams?

Hideout is the 3rd in the Alice Vega series by Louisa Luna, and the first of the author’s I have read. I feel Hideout easily stands alone – it did for me, not having read the first two. Vega is a crazy one-person tornado with two sides to her. Some of the things she did!! But it was her way or no way – and she got results! A twisty, adrenalin-filled thriller, Hideout is one I happily recommend.

Who you gonna call? Alice Vega!

Alice Vega is back and this time she has been called upon to find football player Zeb Williams who literally ran the wrong way and kept on running. Just where did he go? What happened to him? Will Vega find him?

Vega is an interesting, flawed, gritty, strong, and intriguing character. So is Max Caplan. In this book they are up against white supremacists. This is not a simple missing person's case. Plus, there is that dynamic between Vega and Cap. He has an almost grown daughter and wants to work on their relationship and being in her life, and well, you can't really do that if you knee deep in it.

I devoured the previous books in this series, but I found this one hard to get into and once I was there, although I enjoyed this one, it failed to "wow" me as the other books in the series did. I'll still be anxiously waiting for the next book in the series.

Thank you to Text publishing and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

Disappointed in this third in the series. Felt a bit disjointed and the Cap part of the story was overdone. The violence got gratuitous. We were never really clear on why the initial client hired Alice.

Was given a copy by Netgalley in exchange for an unbiased review.

I was excited to read this third book in the series about Alice Vega. I always love returning to characters I know and love and seeing how they’ve changed and what’s going on with them now.

Unfortunately Hideout didn’t really work for me - I finished because I wanted to see what would happen with the key relationships in the story and know what happened for the next book. Otherwise this probably would have been a DNF for me.

There were some really interesting parts of the plot but there was also a fair amount of meandering and some pretty big stretches of disbelief. I’ll still be here for the next Alice Vega book though! Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the advance reading copy.

This is the third in the series; I read and enjoyed the first two. In this installment, a search for a long ago missing person by kick- ass unconventional PI Alice Vega diverges into revealing small town corruption and white nationals.

I didn’t particularly like this book, but it features a topic that needs to be addressed and should be read. Many books I read I don’t want to put down; I had no problem taking breaks from this one. What I liked previously about this series was the two main characters (Alice and Cap) and the dynamics between them; those dynamics seemed to be missing here. There also seemed to be a lot of uninteresting descriptions, side stories that seemingly added nothing to the plot, and I never enjoy reading detailed accounts of violence.

This works as a standalone, but I think you should try the first two for more of an appreciation of this series. If you enjoy an action packed story and can deal with some straining of credulity, this book is for you.

Content warnings: Descriptive violence

Alice Vega is hired to solve a famous decades-old missing person case involving a football player who, just as he was about to score the winning point of a key game, instead carried the ball all the way into the wrong end zone and kept on running until he disappeared. Not having a clue about football, and estranged from her partner, Cap, after their previous collaborations put him in harm’s way, Alex sets out on her own to the small town of Ilona, where the missing player was last seen over 30 years earlier. Alex alienates what seems like half the town, alternately getting beaten up by and beating up all kinds of bad guys in a series of dramatic fight scenes. There are enough quietly tense interludes featuring Cap’s relationship with his daughter to make us appreciate the action scenes even more. The overall effect is compelling and builds to a satisfying professional and personal conclusion, even if the final solution to the missing person case is a little too convenient. Alex is a terrific series character, and I look forward to reading more adventures featuring her and Cap.

Alice Vega is sensational--I want to see lots more of her.--Lee Child, I totally agree with this sentiment. Hideout, the third Alice Vega installment, is excellent. I have read the previous books, and Louisa Luna continues to give more insight into Alice Vega.

Alice is an awesome private Investigator and here she takes on the case of a missing young man, Zeb Williams, last seen in 1984 on the field of a Cal-Stanford game. He catches the ball, runs the wrong way, out of the stadium and disappears.

The only thing Alice has to go on is a picture of Zeb taken with people in a small town in Oregon called Ilona. What she finds there is a community living under the terror of a group called the Liberty Boys. Needless to say these "boys" are not happy with Vega asking questions around town. As Vega discovers the group's activities and tries to enlist the Sheriff she gets no backup. These white supremacists run the town. They attempt to stop her by attacking her in a parking lot, although she returns home to heal, she heads back to Ilona and, well you have to read the book.

We don't get very much time with Vega's partner, Max "Cap" Caplan. He is choosing to spend time with his daughter, Nell, before she leaves for college. There is an issue with Nell's personal item being vandalized. Is this to do with Cap's involvement with Vega?

I look forward to the next Alice Vega book and hope we see more of Cap.

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC. The review is my own.

Even Alice Vega needs to pay the bills, so she takes a well-paying case to find a former college athlete who literally ran off the football field and disappeared. Missing Caplan--though she won't admit that even to herself--she drops in to solicit help. Still recovering from their last case together, and a little annoyed at the months of radio silence, Cap declines to help. When he gets pulled in despite himself, he realizes that despite the danger, his life is better with Vega in it. In her usual, butt-kicking, take-no-prisoners way, Vega ends up annoying a group of white supremacists and the case becomes personal. This book kept me on the edge of my seat as I couldn't wait to see what Vega would do next!

Hideout by Louisa Luna is the third book in her Alice Vega and Max Caplan series and while it is an excellent standalone thriller you'll get far more out of it if you've read the previous 2, not least to understand the history of the main characters.

Vega's newest case appears to be strange but presenting no danger. 30 years ago promising Football Player Zeb Williams has a chance of winning a big match only to take a bizarre course of action that leads to him running out of the stadium and disappearing, an event that is infamous for years afterwards. Just as strange is that a married former girlfriend of Williams is the person paying Vega to try to find him. The hunt leads Vega to the small town of Ilona in Oregan where she manages to upset everyone, not least a group of violent Neo-Nazis.

This is an enjoyable , action-packed book best read with a pinch of salt when Vega goes into full-on Jack Reacher mode,it is however great to have such a strong female character who the bad guys cross at their peril. Caplan is very much a secondary character in this book, and not a little irritating with his constant anxiety and introspection. There were parts that jarred with me plot-wise but overall it's an entertaining and gripping read.
