As a huge Tom Segura fan I absolutely loved this book. Tom takes us through so many stories and you can’t help but read it in his voice. He’s such a talented performer, and he excelled with this book too. Loved every second of it !

This book is unlike any other book i’ve read, it truly made me laugh! Over and over and over again. I’ve been following Tom’s comedy for a while now, probably since his first special came out on Netflix and am just in love with the way he delivers. He delivered in this book as his comedy shows do and I feel like that is something that is hard to do. I feel like we have the same sense of humor and I grow more and more fond of him everytime I even hear him say some dumb shit😂

Adding some comedic genius to his stories about growing up, finding himself in different jobs throughout his life, ultimately getting into comedy, and meeting celebrities (mostly on planes after getting upgraded to first class) made this book so easy to read. I’ve been recommending it to anyone who likes him because I know that it will give you such an insight into who he really is and appreciate him that much more. This book will absolutely have you laughing out loud (hopefully) like I did. And I mean it! Just sitting on my couch and laughing. I’m 100% buying a physical copy of this boom to keep on my shelf forever.

Thank you to Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley for a copy of this ARC (published June 14, 2022) in exchange for my honest review.

I'll start this off by saying I'm a fan of Tom Segura's standup comedy. I was lucky enough to see him perform live earlier this year, in fact. That said, a lot of his writing in this book is in the same vein as a comic: irreverent, a little crude at times, and sometimes flat out unwholesome. BUT, the man is hilarious and in this short book of essays, little slices of Tom's life, we get his story. Readers get a glimpse of Tom's family history and who he is as a person, as a parent, and now as a celebrated and successful comic. I am grateful to Netgalley and the publisher, Grand Central Publishing, for the opportunity to read an advance digital copy!

Tom Segura is hands down one of the funniest comedians. He's funny in a real way. Saying stuff that everyone else is thinking but doesn't dare give voice to. This book is hilarious and his chapter about his moms farts was seriously the best! 😂

Just okay. Like many books by stand ups it lacks depth and cohesion. Might as well just a stand up special.

I am a Tom Segura fan. I listen to all his podcasts and podcast appearances, I watch al his standup specials and I’ve seen him perform live a handful of time. So when this book came out I, as Bert would say, 100% going to buy it. If you’re a fan of Tommy Bunz you will have heard pretty much all of the stories written in the essays in this book. It doesn’t matter if you’ve heard them, the way Tommy writes will have you laughing out loud throughout the book. The writing was so well done and engaging it was hard to put the book down. I hope this is the beginning of his writing career because it was so well done. I highly recommend people read this book for a good laugh.

Well, I love Tom, so I was pretty sure I would enjoy this book. And yes, I did! While the book had all of his biting wit interspersed, it also had some insight to his life, which combined made for a great read!

So I did the mistake of reading this one rather than listening to it. But even when reading, I kept imagining like a this whole thing was his stand up and could see how fun it was. So absolutely recommend to listen to the audiobook for this one. His style of describing his experiences were spot on hilarious and it was such a fun, light book.

A collection of essays that feel more like bar stories. Some stories about Tom growing up, being weird, some stories of him meeting famous people on planes and being weird some more. Each story shows something that Tom learned.

Introduced to him through a co-worker with a weird and pseudo twisted sense of humor very similar to mine, Tom Segura very quickly became one of my favorite comedians and his podcasts never fail to pick me up after a crappy day.

A quick, fun read, this book feels a lot like what I imagine just hanging out with him must be like. Sharing stories and trying to one up each other, but he’s always going to win because he’s actually funny.

I love Tom!

I might be biased because he is one of my favorite comedians, but this was a definite must read for me. When I found out that he wrote a book, I immediately emailed my contact at Grand Central Publishing to make sure I was on the list to get a copy. I didn't care what kind of copy (ebook, physical copy, audiobook, braille, carved in stone, etc), I needed to read this. I have seen Tom Segura twice live, and he does not disappoint. Highly recommend you go see this guy! This book is a collection of stories that has actually happened to him. I have heard most of these before either from his stand up specials or from his various podcasts, but man they did not disappoint in print. I listened to the audiobook (which is narrated by Tommy Buns himself), which makes these stories soooo much better when coming from him directly, and followed along in the hardcover which has some awesome pictures to go along with his stories. Highly recommend if you need to good laugh about a true life event that you could completely relate to.

*Many, many thanks to @grandcentralpublishing @seguratom and @librofm for the #gifted copies of this book in exchange for an honest review.*

A collection of essays written by comedian, Tom Segura. I laughed out loud quite often and I recommend this to anyone who likes comedy or Tom Segura. He also has 2 podcasts and 3 NetFlix specials. He is, in a word, hysterical. He is also touring this summer and I wish I had tickets to see him. If you get the chance, go see him. Or watch Netflix. But definitely read this book of brilliant essays. He is too funny!

*Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this e-book.*

If you are a fan of Tom's standup, you might read the whole book while hearing the words in his voice in your head like I did. This was a very funny memoir-of-sorts. Obviously not a seasoned writer, this was written kind of choppily with no real theme or structure, but it was enjoyable and a really quick read.

As a fan of Tom Segura's stand-up, this was a fun hodge-podge of stories and advice, including looks at coming up as a comic, his childhood with his military father and Peruvian mother, and his many run-ins with other celebrities in first class.

I enjoyed reading this book, but it wasn't entirely what I was expecting. As a fan who has watched his specials and gone to his shows, I've heard a lot of these stories before. The ones I hadn't heard were more serious, about his journey to becoming a comic. It's a strange mix between a biography and a comedy book, but unfortunately it doesn't lean into either. The funnier stories don't have the same oomph as when Tom shares them in person. His comedy just doesn't come across as well. I think that speaks a lot about his delivery as a comic and how awesome he is as a performer. The more informative stories were interesting, but I wasn't hoping for a biography. I especially loved the chapters about his family growing up and his family now, and I was hoping for more of those. I think Tom is at his best and funniest when telling stories from his everyday life. The photos were fantastic!

Adding on to the "comes across better in person point," there is some humor in here that doesn't hit as well when not told in person, especially when it barely hits well in person. There's an entire chapter on how Tom still says the word "retarded" regularly and what his meaning is, and in print, it just hits poorly. You can't hear tone or see facial expressions and know when you're supposed to laugh or not, and it just falls flat and reads really poorly, There's also mention of Joe Rogan being one of his friends, and this is after the pandemic.

It's a solid book for those who may not be familiar with him, or those who are but feel like they can't get enough., but the comedy just doesn't translate as well into print.

I just can't like this book, especially after there is an entire chapter about how great Chris Noth is. We don't need to give time to sexual predators in any kind of book.

Thank you Netgalley and Grand Central Publishing for the eARC

I wish I could say I was a fan of Tom Segura from the beginning but sadly that’s a lie. I do however remember the moment I became a fan. I was listening to different comedians on random and Tom Segura came on. Once he said “yeah but you have four kids” I couldn’t control my laughter. I was instantly a fan. I then found out he had a special called Completely Normal and I watched that countless times. I was beyond excited when I heard about this book and even more excited when I received the book.

If you are already a fan of Tom Segura this is a great book for many reasons. There are some stories that will add a lot of context to some of his jokes we already know, and there are stories that you have never heard before, all equally funny. The way he writes he achieves the impossible, somehow you feel his stage presence through written words. This was a book I couldn’t stop laughing while reading. I have read quite a few books like this and this is hands down the most put together and the funniest I have ever experienced.

If anyone close to Tom Segura reads this please “tell that mo’ f**ker I appreciate him”

As a huge fan of Tom Segura and his podcast, Your Mom's House, (which I'll be referencing throughout this review because after five years of religiously listening every week, it's now a knee-jerk reaction), it feels criminal to give this any lower than five stars. Well, my jeans must be low and loose, because it's a solid three for me.

It's a collection of brief assorted essays about his life: growing up with a socially awkward, former Marine father who loves, L O V E S talking about shitting (RIP Top Dog) + a Peruvian mother who is a master at mental gymnastics, summers spent in Peru, taking drugs, life on the road as a comedian, etc. and interspersed with stories about random celebrities he's sat beside on flights. And yes, he recounts his famous Mike Tyson story towards the end.

If you're unfamiliar with Todd, this is a great intro to his humor and world. The tone is just like his humor: dry and crass. The length? Well, it's average-sized, it's not THAT that big. (Translation: it's a super fast read.) But if you're a fellow dedicated mommy and you're expecting new stories, you'll be disappointed.

A lot of Tim's famous stories are in here - meeting Bruce Bruce, stumbling upon a fatal motorcycle accident, overdosing on GHB as a college freshman, and of course, brief mentions of Top Dog's famous shitting stories and Charo's countless manipulation tactics. They're already available on YouTube or in his past Netflix specials, and a few are stories he's talked about quite a bit on his podcast with his wife, Tina. I was anticipating cool stuff, slick stuff, neat stuff and was rather disappointed there wasn't anything new. Call me a chomo, but I would've liked it to be more introspective instead of a written collection of recycled stories and past bits. (There's a moment in one of the latter essays where he has a small introspective moment discussing his preference for alone time that was rather poignant and felt out of place in this collection, but I loved it and wished the whole book had moments like that.)

A small aside: I know I'm being a nitpicky Cool Guy right now, but including literal screenshots of Ted's Instagram pictures added to the whole "unfinished, thrown together" vibe. It felt lazy. I'm sure someone at Falcon Car Wash knows photoshop and could've helped to make it look more polished.

Per usual, I laughed hard at the Top Dog stories and the essay about his children and, despite my complaints, I still enjoyed this collection and I hope there's a follow-up soon. Keep featherin' it, brother.

Thanks jeans, Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. I like that.

Memoirs written by comedians are my favorite. Their comedy always translates well through in the writing. Tom Segura is one of my favorite comedians and this book was a really great read for me. I really couldn’t put it down and was laughing the entire time.

I am a huge huge fan of Tom Segura. I listen to 2 Bears 1 Cave religiously.

This is a collection of essays that if you are familiar with Tom can totally picture him telling these stories.

I loved learning about parts of Tom’s life that I didn’t know before reading. I really got into diving into his life. Really, if you don’t have a prior knowledge of Tom Segura I’m not sure if you would actually care about what is in this book, but if I had to convince you to read this all I have to say is…. why is Tom on a federal watch list?!

The parts of this book that made me laugh really had me rolling. The reason this isn’t a 5 star read for me is because there were sections that I really did not care about and was a little bored. But what I enjoyed, I enjoyed a lot!

4 stars

Full disclosure up front: I love Tom Segura and know enough of his stuff that I read it in his voice and cadence. As with any comedian who writes something, I suggest listening to their comedy first and see if it's for you.

If you don't like Segura's comedy then this book will not change your mind. Admittedly, Segura makes it pretty clear he has no intention to. This is a collection of random essays which are mostly hilarious and sometimes heartfelt. A few are stories you have heard in any one of his specials. I loved it and will probably now rewatch a special or two.

(I was provided this book as an advance copy by Netgalley and Grand Central Publishing. The full review will be posted to HistoryNerdsUnited.com on 6/16/2022.)
