Thanks St. Martin’s Press and Net Galley for the opportunity to read and review Virginia Heath’s Never Rescue A Rogue!
I remember reading Never Fall for Your Fiancée and falling in love with it, so I was excited to see she was expanding the series to include Diana’s story! These books are probably in my favorite top 3 regency reads.
I really enjoyed this book. I love regency as a category and feel it can be overdone sometimes, but this book is not once of those times. The characters had independent personalities. I loved seeing such a strong female character during regency times. I also felt the element of a mystery made the story that much better!
ALSO, the witty banter and insults between Diana and Giles *swoon worthy* 🥹
Virginia also did a great job including the supporting characters throughout the story. I loved being able to read more about characters I already fell in love with.
Fingers crossed for a third book to share Vee’s story? 😍

Heath is carving a name for herself in historical rom-coms. She follows the success of Never Fall for Your Fiancée (2021) with a frenemies-to-lovers story of an illegitimate duke and a clandestine journalist.

Dalton is a hilarious scoundrel with a huge heart, Diana is fierce and independent, and both have secrets and hate each other. The banter is witty and out of this world, clever and cunning. My favorite part was the character development and did not disappoint. well-written, humorous, chemestry, entertaining, and fun read.
"I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own."

Great story! I’m so glad I was chosen to preview the book because I’m a huge fan of Virginia Heath.
This is the 2nd of the Merriwell Sisters and I think my favorite so far. I can not wait to see what she has for Venus.
This is a great story with a mystery to unravel that moves very fast.
I just reviewed Never Rescue a Rogue by Virginia Heath. #NetGalley

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for an eARC of this title. All opinions are honestly given and are my own.
In Never Rescue a Rogue, Diana Merriwell and Giles Sinclair never miss a chance to throw a barb or one-up the other, locked in a battle of wills after Diana’s sister and Giles’s best friend fall in love and marry. However, when questions of Giles’s true parentage threaten after his estranged father’s unexpected death, playboy Giles and intrepid reporter Diana must work together to discover the truth of Giles’s heritage in order to secure his title and the Sinclair estate. In their battle against time and rumors that have the potential to ruin all that Giles holds dear, Giles and Diana realize that months of squabbling only masked a long-simmering attraction and that the line between love and hate is much closer than they thought…
This was so much fun and definitely one of my favorite historical romances in ages. The banter, the pining, the plotting, and the characterization were all pitch-perfect. Although Never Rescue a Rogue was my first read in the series, it will definitely not be the last, and I look forward to keeping up with the other characters in the preceding (which I will go back and read) and following books. This was such an enjoyable read by Heath and is definitely a worthy addition to our collection. 4.25 stars.

I really enjoyed the first book in the Merriwell Sisters Series, Never Fall For Your Fiancé, but Never Rescue a Rogue exceeded my expectations. Diana and Giles had exceptional chemistry and sparkling banter, making them such a compelling couple to read,
In Never Fall for Your Fiancé, I was often rooting for Minerva because she just deserved a better life. And Hugh ended up growing on me, but the plot (the lie to Hugh's mother) always felt a little lite to me. Everything kept happening to them because of a lie he told. I'm not sure if Virginia Heath saw this criticism of her first book and course corrected in the second, but Giles was absolutely a leading man to root for. So many things happened to him beyond his control, and it was lovely to watch he and Diana outgrow their "dislike" of each other to solve the massive problems he was dealing with.
Another thing that truly set this novel apart were the delightful side characters. From Giles' butler to Diana's sister Vee, they all added their own magic to this lovely historical romance. I can't wait to get a glimpse of this couple in the next book where I'm sure we'll see Vee find her own happily ever after. Can't wait!

Review:
Once I figured out why there were bees on the cover this whole story really fell together for me. I liked the banter of Diana and Giles and I loved how well they meshed together. Diana's family also pushing Diana and Giles together was so entertaining - I loved seeing the relationship from the first book coming alive in life after their story finished. These books are very well done as stand alone stories but reading book one will definitely help set the stage for this plot as well.
I hated how the adults Giles and Diana should've trusted treated them so awfully, but I liked seeing them figure out what impact that should have on their lives.
Synopsis:
Diana Merriwell and Giles Sinclair only tolerate one another for the sake of their nearest and dearest. Everyone believes that the two of them are meant to be together, but Diana and Giles know that their constant pithy barbs come from a shared disdain—not a hidden attraction. Diana loves the freedom of working at the newspaper too much to give it up for marriage, and Giles is happily married to his bachelor lifestyle. But they do have one thing in common—the secrets they can’t risk escaping.
When Giles’ father, the curmudgeonly Duke of Harpenden unexpectedly turns up his toes, it’s only a matter of time before someone comes crawling out of the woodwork who knows the true circumstances of his only son's birth. As the threat of blackmail becomes real, Giles must uncover the truth of his parentage first, or else he and all those who depend upon him will be ruined—and dogged bloodhound Diana is his best hope at sniffing out the truth. As Giles and Diana dive into his family’s past, the attraction that the two of them insisted wasn’t there proves impossible to ignore. Soon, the future of the Sinclair estate isn’t the only thing on the line…

This book was so much fun! I liked the premise a lot more than the first - really I liked it a lot more than the first one in general. Their banter was top tier; both were such intelligent and funny characters, I couldn't get enough of them. I loved their travels and the protectiveness he felt over her, even when he was in the midst of such a situation. I was pleasantly surprised at how well various characters and situations kept the plot light-hearted when it could've easily been very heavy with Diana's work at the newspaper and Giles's family ordeal. I recommend this book and I'm looking forward to the third one!

📚✨Book Review✨📚
Never Rescue a Rogue
Author: Virginia Heath
Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.💫
Note: I received a copy of this book to review via NetGalley, but all opinions are my own.
What I Liked:
🐝 I absolutely LOVED that Diana has a job and a purpose. She’s not sitting around darning socks, but has agency and gets stuff done. I don’t know if that’s always historically accurate but I eat it up none the less!
🐝 Giles’ declaration about 65% into this book. I was in tears! So beautiful 😭
🐝Really enjoyed Vee coming to life a bit more in this book. She was pretty one note in the first book from this series, but in this one she starts speaking up!
What I Didn’t Like:
🐝What is it about the parents in historical fiction that is oh so toxic? They are always so overbearing and controlling. Ugh 😑
Final Thoughts:
🐝 This book hasn’t even released yet and I’m not so patiently waiting for the couple I’m presuming is in the next book. I can’t believe I’m actually expected to wait for it! 😭😭😭

I finished this a few days ago but I wanted to let it sit before I reviewed this.
The more days go by, the more I LOVE the book.
This love story is so genuine. It’s two people who are just so unequivocally meant to be but life just HAPPENS. The way this romance is written is perfect. It’s vulnerable , and witty, and natural.
The hero is one of my favorite characters I’ve ever read
The plot will keep you in your toes and the family Dynamics completely entertained.
Highly recommend.

I really liked the book. After devouring the first Merriwell sister book, I knew I needed to get my hands on this one. It’s tonally different than the first - more action and mystery - and i think that makes it all the better! Diana’s sharp, fierce, intelligent demeanor was a lot of fun and watching Giles shed his “devil-may-care” attitude in the pursuit of something real was gratifying.
I liked hearing more of the Merriwell backstory and the plot involving Giles and his family was riveting. Would definitely recommend to someone looking for a fast-paced regency romance with a heaping dose of feminism!

This is such a fun and light book, and even though I'm not a big fan of historical romance I loved this one.
Great banter, I loved the construction of the characters, and the evolution of the romance.
Diana and Giles were so funny, if you are a fan of historical romance, romcom, hilarious banter, enemies to lovers, this book is perfect for you.

I wanted to thank netgalley, St. Martins press and Virginia Heath for this advanced copy of Never Rescue a Rogue. I came across this book while scrolling through netgalley and both the cover & synopsis caught my eye. Here are some of my thoughts.
I admit I’ve put this book off for way too long as it was sitting on my netgalley shelf for what felt like ages. I am now kicking myself in the head for putting it off for so long. I enjoyed reading Diana & Giles’s story from enemies to lovers . Diana was a headstrong woman who had a passion for rescuing people as well as calling out criminals. She didn’t have the best role model in her father , so she swore she would never marry. Everyone around her was convinced that her and Giles were destined to be together, but she fought it until she couldn’t do so any longer.
Giles is harboring this dirty secret while also battling his own conflicting feelings towards Diana. He is a fun , sarcastic character who has a soft side despite what people believe. When his father ends up dead , he becomes more scared than ever that his secret will be revealed and it will ruin everything. He is trying to fight to keep his secret while also waging his own internal war about his true feelings for Diana.
I enjoyed their banter as well as their chemistry and it was evident from their first ever interaction. It didn’t take me long to get hooked into the book and it seemed to fly by. This is my first book by this author and I am wanting to read her first one Never Fall for Your Fiancé . I hope that I get to see Vee’s story eventually. I rated this book 4 stars and if this review has you intrigued, then keep your eyes out for its release date on November 8th,2022.

From the moment they met, Diana Merriwell and Giles Sinclair have been at odds. They tolerate each other for the sake of their loved ones, but if it were up to them, they'd never even look in the other's direction. But, of course, everyone believes their verbal jabs are a ploy to hide their mutual pining. Diana is far too independent and has worked too hard to climb up the ranks as a journalist to be tied down, and Giles is harboring a dark secret that could ruin him. When Giles's father unexpectedly dies, Giles inherits a dukedom, and it doesn't take long for someone to sniff out the truth behind his birth. Desperate to uncover his parentage before anyone else, Giles enlists the investigative help of Diana. But as they dive into his past, it's clear the tension between them is more than animosity. Not only are their livelihoods at stake, but their hearts as well.
The whole time I was reading the first book in this series, I was dying over the tension between Diana and Giles, so I was so excited to dive into this one. They have such playful, teasing banter that I adore. It's so fun watching them rattle each other. Both know what buttons to push to work the other up, and every interaction has you going, "Ok, now kiss." The romance was the standout here. It was lovely watching them open up and share the most vulnerable parts of themselves. Diana is such a force to be reckoned with, and I love how Giles not only accepts her the way she is but encourages her to be as bold as she wants. That said, the actual plot of this was a bit boring. Nothing really happens until about the 60% mark, and while the secret of Diana's job and Giles's background was a little interesting, I never found myself invested in either storyline. I still enjoyed Heath's writing style and the secondary characters (once again, we have a sassy butler who steals the show), and I'm looking forward to the next installment.

A fun, light romance! I particularly liked the repartee between the two leads and the fact that both of them have their own personalities, hobbies and careers. Their marriage proposals to each other, consisting mostly of insults (!), is a work of joy that will particularly amuse married couples. Middle books are often lesser works; I'm pleased that this isn't the case here. The third book is all set up and I look forward to reading Vee's book.

This is the second book I have read in this series, the first one I listened to in audio. It was VERY good and when I saw this one pop up on NetGalley, I had to request an advanced copy from NetGalley I'm so happy I got one, because it is even better than the first. Giles is an amazing hero and Diana is an extremely strong heroine! I just loved them both! I cannot recommend this book any higher. It is one of my favorite reads in this genre for this year. Great writing and the plot is excellent. Kept me guessing as to how it would wrap up in the end and I was very satisfied.

Never Rescue a Rogue is a must read for fans of Evie Dunmore or historical romance. The second book in the Merriwell Sisters series, Never Rescue a Rogue follows Diana and Giles. Neither one is interested in the other despite everyone around them insisting they would be perfect together. When they are thrown together to solve a mystery, their attraction becomes impossible to ignore.
If you are a fan of slow burn romances, enemies to lovers, or strong heroines, don’t miss this witty, fun regency romance!

This series is the perfect blend of romcom and historical romance so I will always be here to read whatever Heath puts out next. This was such a fun, quick read with great characters that I finished it in two sittings. 👏👏👏

Never Rescue a Rogue was phenomenal. Not only was it hilarious, but the budding romance between Diana and Giles was everything i hoped for.
A lot of historical fiction romances can be quite hard to follow along. That wasn’t the case for this book. It flowed beautifully and you just want the best for Giles with his whole predicament. Would i recommend this book? Absolutely.
You get close proximity, enemies to lovers-ish, mystery, and a hilarious “pirate” named Dalton who’s options were my favorite part about this book.
Thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for an early ARC of this book. I cant wait for everyone else to read it!

Great continuation of the characters! Amazing banter and some LOL moments. Amazing job with character development and drawing the reader in to the reason they each avoid the relationship. Bring on the next book!
