This is the story of Giles Sinclair who becomes the duke of Harpenden upon the unexpected death of his father. He asks Diana Merriwell, his best friend's sister in law, to help him uncover who knows the secret of his parentage that he and his father had been keeping a secret. Shortly before his death, his father had suspicions that the true nature of their relationship would be exposed and if that happened he would not have an heir. His father was on ther verge of remarrying before his untimely death with the aim to have another heir. As Giles is investigating who else could know his secret, his uncle Gervais returns and informs him that he has proof that he is not the true heir and the title should be his. While Giles and Diana are searching for the person who supposedly knows the truth or proof that could prove he is not the legal heir, a romance blooms between them. When her family tries to demand he offer for her if he is interested in pursuing Diana, Giles does not want to commit until he is sure he has cleared up truth surrounding his birth. This is the first book I have read from this author and I am looking forward to reading more from her.

Never Rescue a Rogue was an exciting addition to the Merriwell Sisters Series. While I enjoyed the first book in the series, I loved this one. It had all the fun elements of a historical romance that sum up to a perfect book.

My only disappoint was that the end did not feel wrapped up. It ended on their engagement and none of the "dirty secret" stuff gets fully wrapped up (I was looking forward to seeing justice against the Uncle). I feel like there should have been an epilogue with these events. I guess well find out more in Vee's book but considering this book is about them looking for the truth of his family and his Uncle's crime, I wish it was added to the end so everything would be wrapped up. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for Vee's story.

This was a charming, witty historical romance, I really enjoyed it. The banter between Diana and Giles to establish/attempt to maintain their mutual disinterest is highly amusing and their inevitable slow burn romance is very sweet. Light on the spice, there is really just one scene that is more explicit, the romance is focused more on the “we don’t but actually we do” situational humor. I especially liked that they find out each other’s secrets early on, no drawn out deception or avoidance. Also, Dalton was quite possibly one of the most amusing side characters ever, every scene with him made me laugh.

I look forward to the next book in The Merriwell Sisters series, the teased burgeoning relationship for the youngest sister promises to be just as fun!

Historical romance in Regency-ish era England; Book 2 of the Merriwell Sisters series. Our second sister, Diana, is the main character here who is known to work at a newspaper as a grammarian. Her family thinks she secretly writes for gossip columns, but she actually secretly does hardcore investigative journalism (which is very dangerous). She warns family-friend Giles of an impending engagement, which he confront his emotionally distant father about. Turns out his father (a duke) is planning to marry in order to secure his succession due to a big secret from the past that renders Giles at risk for not being the true heir. After the duke’s sudden death, Giles has to clean up the estate and uncover the evidence before it can be used against him and he teams up with Diana to do so. Whew. Lots happening here. Plus Diana’s family being obnoxious matchmakers and pushing her to Giles. Enjoyable read, and the secret-hunting has a great payoff.

Lovely, lovely, lovely. Diana and Giles get to spend so much time together, which gives the reader time to fully get to know them and invest in their relationship. Probably one of the most satisfying relationships I’ve read.

Never Marry Your Fiancee, the first book about the Merriwell sisters, didn't hit right with me. It wasn't bad, it just bored me to death. But I thought the sparks between Diana and Giles in that book would pan out for me in this one.

They don't.

I guess I just don't find this author's writing engaging. Everything feels drawn out and none of the characters have much depth. I mean, I thought Giles was supposed to be a rogue (it's in the title!), but he's incredibly tame despite his Dirty Secret and the supporting characters are entirely forgettable.

And no, I would not call Giles and Diana's romance a slow burn because that, to me, would indicate that the romance was satisfying.

Love, love, love this story! Giles confides his family's DIRTY SECRET to Diana, whom he refers to as the harridan. She, in turn, resolves to help the man she refers to as the idiot. From there the story evolves from anxiety and despair to an outright farce. This is the second Merriwell sisters book and I cannot wait for the third!

Never Rescue a Rogue revolves around a duke who is not sure he is a duke. Giles has a horrible relationship with his father. I was not even sure I would like Giles, but he turns out to be a loveable, honest, caring guy. He and Diana have been at loggerheads since meeting, but all of that is hiding that they really like each other, but do not think the other likes them. What better way to start a romance. Plus, you have the mischievous Merriwell sisters to add fun to the story.

Although a stand-alone, I appreciated having read Never Fall for Your Fiancée first. It adds just a bit to the background and charm of this romance.

Both Diana and Giles have secrets which come out in the story as they are figuring out love. The ‘villain’ of the story is not horrible, just unlikeable. So, this is an enjoyable, light-hearted romance with sweet characters. The Merriwell sisters are all adorable with more romances to come, soon, I hope!

Oh my goodness “Never Rescue a Rogue,” by Virginia Heath was an amazing book. I was hooked from the get go. I really liked both Diana and Giles, their chemistry was out of this world. Not only was their relationship well developed, it was also not rushed. I had the chance to get to know Diana and Giles as individuals and not just their relationship. Giles was a good character because he was very kind underneath his roguish exterior. I really liked his relationship with Dalton, they were so funny together. I enjoyed Diana because she was strong minded and right to the point. I also liked her investigations and their reasons. I thought that it added good depth to her character. I thought that ending fit really with the characters and their ideals. The pacing was great and kept me turning the pages. I didn't want to put it down! “Never Rescue a Rogue” was a great book. It was a quick and easy read with good pacing and great characters. I am really looking forward to reading Vee’s book! I will definitely be reading more of Virginia Heath’s books.

I love this series featuring sisters who are independent and fiercely loyal. Diana is the hardest of the bunch and as she took up the role of protector once their father left them in the lurch. So I was fascinated to see how her romance with Giles the lovable duke would turn out. It was more serious and had a grand quest at its center than the previous novel but that held true to Diana’s nature. There’s plenty of characters to fall in love with here and lots of side stories that keep this story fast paced. Diana and Giles romance is a slow burn that is an opposites attract story that made me lol multiple times. Diana and Giles keep us guessing with how they’re going to get there in the end and I loved the fight for it. I did think we spent a lot of time in the internal workings of Diana and Giles and would have liked more conversations to be had rather than thought. However the second half remedied that when they were forced together to solve their mystery. I can’t wait for the next one!

Oh, boy, am I glad I did not miss this story. I was hooked on this story from the get-go. Yes, I devoted my day to reading this story and let the rest of my world take care of its self. There was a wee bit of spice but if that is not your cuppa tea it is easily skipped, because you really don’t want to miss this FUN easy reading romance. This is a worthy read. Happy Reading ! !

This was a fun romance. I’d enjoyed book one and was looking forward to this second book! There’s so much banter and snark, but with a soft heart underneath. I loved how capable Diana was. Giles had his issues, but was able to grow as a character.

Virginia Heath's NEVER RESCUE A ROGUE is delightful. The story just has the perfect arc, and the slow burn romance between Diana and Giles and everything they sort through together is wonderfully paced. How they finally come together after all their confessions is *chef's kiss*. Also, Diana's family is so entertaining; they're brilliant side characters. However, I think the best part of NEVER RESCUE A ROGUE is definitely the banter between Diana and Giles. Even when it's half-hearted, you know they're head over heels for each other. Highly recommend this one to lovers of romance.

I have been obsessing over historical romance lately. And book #1 in this series was so so fun so I couldn’t wait for this one!

We met both Diana and Giles in the first book and we saw sparks fly. I liked understanding more about their backgrounds. Especially Giles because they made him seem like such a playboy, but we learn that a lot of that is an act.

I was super intrigued by Giles’ “dirty secret” and learning more about his parentage. Through helping him, Diana started learning more about the real him and even though she denied it began to fall for him.

Their relationship progressed naturally and the chemistry was so so real.

I’m so excited for Vee’s story. She has grown so much in these books!

When tolerating your sister's husband's best friend turns into helping him discover the truth about his parentage.

We met both Giles and Diana in Virginia Heath's first book, Never Fall for Your Fiancée. They bickered like crazy and the tension was palpable. So when they become the subject of this book, the reader (aka me) gets to enjoy all the squabbling we only got snippets of in the first book.

Diana has a knack for finding the truth and when her nemesis approaches her needing her skills, she agrees to help him find the truth about her parentage. As the two of them investigate the truth, they discover more about each other than they realize including an attraction that's difficult to fight.

I loved the first book and couldn't say enough good things about it. I adore historical romances and one with fantastic writing and banter is right up my alley so when I saw that this book had been released, I knew I had to get it and it definitely did not disappoint. I'm fully invested in the Meriwell sisters now and can't wait to see what happens in the last book.

Oh my gosh, I love the Merriwell sisters. Diana’s book was as fun as Minerva’s, with a dash of mystery and intrigue. I loved the subplots that were interwoven so well. Diana is such a strong character and one that I was looking forward to and did not disappoint. Dalton stole the show every time he showed up and Giles was unexpectedly one of the sweetest leads I’ve read. I enjoyed every page of this book, beginning to end, and I truly cannot wait for Vee’s book!

So here's the thing. This is probably a great read for people who love very light enemies to lovers, and enjoy a somewhat softer hero. Giles is actually quite charming, and he's slutty, which I love. But I found him lacking in the... gumption department. He was good for a turn of phrase, but not so great for leaping into action, which is what I want, personally, in a romance novel hero. He had a cute back and forth with Diana, but at points it could be so exasperating that I kept waiting for him to get one over on her, which was... confusing.

I didn't really understand how a book that relied so much on the snippy vibes between the hero and heroine in the beginning could ultimately fail to have much real conflict between them. Again, if you want something lighter, you'll enjoy that--but for me, it felt like the book ran out of steam.

To be blunt, I also had an issue with bonding with Diana as a heroine--she's very "intrepid modern heroine", which I can like. But it came off as a bit "look at how smart she is compared to the girl he's engaged to" which I disliked. There was a lot of dunking on the other girl for her intellect and frivolous nature, and I just didn't feel that.

It was cute! But to me, it could have gone a lot deeper. I think a lot of this was a case of "it's not you, it's me". Except for the comparison between the heroine and the alternative--that... was not me.

I went into this without having read the previous novel in the series, but that didn't interfere with my ability to follow and enjoy this one. My favorite aspect of this book was that, although it is advertised as a kind of 'enemies-to-lovers' story, it was pretty clear that Diana and Giles didn't truly hate one another. There was also a sense that they enjoyed one another's company and that their verbal sparing was just for fun. This was absolutely clear in the way he sought to keep her safe and the way she helped him find the truth of who his mother was. I'm very curious to see if anything further occurs between Vee and Galahad - they certainly have an interesting first meeting story.
