This is a stand-alone historical rom-com. The first book was very well-written and I loved it a lot. I didn't like Diana as much in the first book but her actions and thoughts are explained in this one. I end up liking her a lot here.

Anyhow, this book is just as good as the first book. Ridiculously over-the-top situations (in the best possible way), swoony hero, sassy and sarcastic heroine, surprising twists, lots of fun innuendo, enemies to friends to lovers... What's not to love? Really enjoy this book.

Thanks to the publisher for the arc.

I admit, I liked the fact That it had romance, but the Bigamy solving it in the end made it feel sexist. However the writing felt nice, and flowing what I disliked though was the bigamy solving everything instead of Ffion actually being the duchess.

* 4 out of 5 stars *

I really did enjoy this book, but I gotta say, it did not give me all the warm fuzzies or subtle spice as Never Fall for Your Fiancée. I just felt that the pacing was better in book 1, and that this one was trying to do a bit too much... maybe I just liked Hugh and Minerva as characters more than Diana and Giles (because honestly she drove me nuts in Book 1, mainly for how mean she was to sweet younger sister Vee who is just going through some tough times). However, I am giving this book 4 stars because when I separated this book from book 1, it was way more enjoyable. Basically, just know that even though this is a series, it does not read the same connected-like way as a Kleypas or MacLean series where every character is woven together.

I absolutely loved Giles and my loving him made me really appreciate Diana. I LOVED that we were woman on top for a moment but I wish it had been full on... a bit fade-to-black kind of scene and I was like ugh let me see her ride her man. I liked how both of their personalities really complimented each other and how their relationship was angsty but loving/warm.

There were also some quotes that jumped right off the page for me that made me sigh with joy, so I will put these in here because they really sum up the loveliness of this book.

This one because any description of a childhood bedroom just makes me MELT:
1) " 'This is your old room? The one you slept in as a boy?' There was a casual air of easiness about the place that was all Giles. The real Giles and not the superficial façade he presented to the world. The furnishings built more for comfort than to impress and nothing like his ostentatious Egyptian-themed ballroom back in Tavistock Square. His penchant for luxury was evident in the soft blanket and crisp sheets beneath her fingertips. The sumptuous feather mattress and pillows were the sort you would sink into..." YES YES YES.

2) "Tried to be a gentleman. But Diana wouldn't let him. Each time he pulled away to end their kiss she nibbled his ear or nuzzled his neck until his lips found his way back to hers where they belonged. His glaring lack of willpower where she was concerned empowered her to be bolder..." YES DIANA. CLAIM YOUR MAN. (next time, let's just add some dirty talk, please and thank you).

3) "Now kindly stop distracting me and try to trust me. Just this once let me be in charge." GILES, OK FINE JUST THIS ONCE AHHH

Super excited for Vee's book and to see her blossom :( she's so sweet!!

I requested to read and review this book for free from St. Martin Publishing Company. This book has romance, mystery, drama. It will keep you guessing until almost the very end. I can't wait to see what this family will do next. They may be different and not related by blood but of that doesnt matters. They dont care about background or if you have money or not. The Merriweather girls and family stick together. You have to learn to trust even if you aren't sure you want to. The past has a way of catching up to someone good or bad. Trust your gut. This book is for a mature reader and can be read anywhere.

Okay I loved the first book in the Merriwell Sister series, and I was so excited when I got the email that the sequel was available on netgalley. Diana was my favorite sister in the first book and her story did not disappoint.

The DRAMA oh my goodness. Possible illegitimate dukes, investigative reporters, ruination, oh my. This story was such a wild ride. Dalton (Giles' butler) will forever be my favorite character with all of his unsolicited advice. The banter between all the characters is witty and funny. The plotline is engrossing and original. The writing is absolute perfection.

There is nothing I love more than a good enemies to lovers. Giles and Diana truly fulfill this archetype in the best ways. They constantly mock each other, but know how far they can go before they should stop. They endure nonstop teasing from family and friends about the palpable tension between them. I was itching for the two of them to get together by the end of the book, and even though I knew it would happen I still shrieked with joy when they slept together.

10/10, Virginia Heath did not disappoint with this sequel.

Never Rescue a Rogue is the second book in The Merriwell Sisters series by Virginia Heath, and a romance novel set in the early 1800s that follows the story between Giles Sinclair, the new Duke of Harpenden, and Diana Merriwell, the middle sister in a trio of three that is working at the newspaper. The two of them met in Never Fall for Your Fiancée, the first and previous book in the series, taking into account that Giles is the Hugh’s best friends and Diana is sisters with Minerva, they have come together a few times. Even though they spend most of their time together denying that there could be something between the two of them, they are forced to start spending more time together in order to guard the secrets that they can’t risk escaping.

I was really expectant over Giles and Diana’s story from the moment they met in the previous book and I was rooting for them just as much as the secondary characters are rooting for them in this book. I particularly enjoyed that first we got to see the main characters as separate, getting to know them in depth before they slowly started to spend more time together and got to know each other, developing a friendship that later will lead to having feelings for one another.

I loved this book so much because it was equal parts entertaining and hilarious, but also suspenseful and adventurous. The romance was great as the characters offered us heart-warming moments and a few steamy ones too, but also compelling family moments that were honestly unexpected however paired to perfection with everything else. The author’s writing style helps in taking a liking not only to the main characters, but also to the secondary ones which feel just as important.

I received an E-Arc from the publisher for an honest review.

Oh my gosh! I got an e-Arc from the publisher one morning. That was such a nice surprise since I was having such a long week. I know I haven't updated the blog much, lots of things going on!! But this book was such a gem to read.

I've read the first book "Never Fall for Your Finance" and loved it. This one meets the same level! Another lovely adventure with the Merriwell Sisters! This book had all the feels. Granted there is an attraction between Diana and Giles. You feel the emotion build up but do they get together? It kind of reminds me of Bridgerton from Season 2. Historical Rom Cons rule!

I will say Diana is such a lively, independent character who takes no grief and is always determined to find the truth. She banters with Giles, hence the attraction and power builds up between them. Giles on the other hand shows himself off as not important and reckless in a way to the public, but to his friends he is a true gentleman and holds honor dear to his heart. To me he seems wicked cool. I love the interaction between the two.

Giles learns of his father's death and then there's a question mark hanging over his head of who is his mother. He begins his search to find out the truth. Diana gets involved to help Giles with this mystery. While in this process, Gile's long lost Uncle Gervais shows up wanting take over the estate! Who will get the estate and the title duke?

I can see this story into a movie. That would be awesome to see.

I did laugh a few times while reading this book! There was a few kisses involved as I squealed with delight because I wanted Giles and Diana to become a couple but do they? I will admit the cute steamy part in the book was sweet and adorable! You have to read the book to find out what I'm talking about.</p>
There were some new words that popped up in this book that made me actually looked them up because I had no clue what they meant but the flow of the writing and story being told was well done. It held my interest a great deal. So if you are looking for adventure, humor, a friendship turned to lovers attraction rom con, then you gotta pick this book up! Plus it's historical too! I'm so happy to have read this book! Thank you to Kejana Ayala for this surprise.

A line from the book that I enjoyed:"Loved her with all of his stupid, misguided noble heart."

I enjoyed and I really appreciate that NetGalley granted me an advance reader copy for my honest opinions. The chemistry between the two main characters is off the charts. Virginia Heath definitely knows how to write romantic and sensual scenes. It is really amazing how well hero and heroine compliment and understand each other. Wonderful balance of ; a smart, sexy partnership, an admirable heroine and an amazing, wonderful hero! Thank you! :)

So Fun! This was good. I like the way this author writes. I would just give her a little advice to slow down a bit and give us a bit of background. I couldn't remember the first book as I read and forgot all these people. The author jumps into this book and you need a little knowledge of the first book for this one. I would say you could read this one on it's own but you would miss who everyone else in the story is. It does set up nicely for the 3rd story in this one for the last sister. I like that this author keeps it all very accurate to the time and her writing stays more focused on the story not the lust. There is a sex scene in this and some innuendo but that is not the main story line. It's funny and a little slap stick at times and just a good book.

4.5-5 Stars! I really loved this book. This is book 2 in the ‘Merriwell sisters’ series but can be read as a standalone, though I’d recommend reading book one first. Giles and Diana, the 2 main characters, start off as frenemies and become much more. This book had romance, mystery, ‘sexy times’, witty banter, a matchmaking family, an HEA ending and an ex-pirate butler, complete with eye patch and peg leg! What more could you possibly need?! This really was a great book and I love this whole series so far! I really can’t wait to read Vee’s story next! Only criticism - I would’ve loved an epilogue to wrap the story up but seeing as I plan on reading book 3, I guess I’ll just have to wait. Ugh!

Wow, I loved this one so much! Even more than book 1!

Giles and Diana are the best and I love how their friendship deepens naturally as they care more and more for each other. They also worry for each other and are the friend the other needs when things start getting more complicated. Not only that, but Giles and Diana truly understand each other.

It was great to see the characters from book 1 and getting an update, and I can't wait for book 3!

Great series!

I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

I so love this book! Not only is this so entertaining and hilarious but also suspenseful and adventurous. I had been enjoying Diana and Giles’ relation from the first book so when I excitedly read this, I couldn’t stop it.

Diana’s life has been getting better since her sister married to Hugh, an Earl. She loves her life, her new family and her job as a nitpicking grammarian for a newspaper yet nobody knows that she is truly talented at her work that it can risk her reputation and life. On the other hand Giles always pretends as a rogue because he wants to irritate his father especially after he knew the threatening revelation.

I did immensely enjoy how the story went from the beginning to the last. When Giles’ father dies leaving so many mysteries of his life and the future of Sinclair estate, Giles decisively goes to Shropshire where he grew up and buries his father and invites Hugh’s family to accompany him. When Giles was explaining his family ancient story, I had an inkling that that someone was going to be the villain and it was surprisingly heart-pounding when that someone turned up. As Giles has no other choice but to ask for help from Diana, they begin their investigation and adventure, and I couldn’t put the book down!
Despite it, I had my own favorite character among the characters within, Dalton, as a supportive character, had captured and entertained me from the beginning!

It is thoroughly riveting story, full of lively humor and romance, gorgeously evocative and I loved the compelling family ties among the characters which make the story more fascinating and heart-warming. Miss Virginia Heath’s writing has always enchanted me!

I did enjoy this story, even though I had taken a great dislike to Diana as she appeared in the first book of the series, “Never fall for your fiancée.” In this, her own story, she is softer and nicer than she was, and some of her attitudes and actions are explained. She is also redeemed by the fact that she is prepared to help Giles, a man she purports to detest, because it is the right thing to do.

From the moment I met him in the first book, I liked Giles. In public he comes across as feckless and irreverent, the kind of person who, in real life, would drive his friends mad with frustration, but he was always a likeable rogue. His intelligence and underlying honour were never in doubt from the first, when he was quick to point out the flaws in Hugh’s plans in book one. Now, in his own story, it was delight to get to know him better.

At the very start of this story we learn that his roguery is not the result of bored entitlement but is a carefully crafted construct designed to embarrass and upset his father, the Duke of Harpenden, for reasons that become clear to us almost immediately. An honourable rogue, then.

It is that inbuilt honour which threatens to tear him in two when his father dies and he faces the choice of doing the honourable thing and telling the truth as he knows it, which will lead to ruin not just for himself but for the estate and everyone who relies on it for a living, or doing the other honourable thing and perpetuating his father's lie, thereby cheating someone else out of their inheritance but saving the estate and its tenants from a fate worse than death.

The main story is his quest for the truth which will, hopefully, solve his dilemma and set him – and everyone else – free. When Diana discovers what's going on, she determines to help him. Being a story by Virginia heath, their subsequent quest leads to misunderstandings, awkward situations, and some laugh-out-loud moments. It’s the sort of book I’d love to see made into a film.

I was well over halfway through the book before it dawned on me what the solution to Giles’s problem might be. Up till then, I enjoyed wracking my brains, trying to figure out how this particular circle might be squared. After this moment of revelation, I enjoyed reading on, eager to discover if I was right. (I was.)

I'm still not sure I could be friends with Diana in real life, but I feel I understand her better now. I like Giles even more than I did before, although I suspect he would still drive me potty if I knew him in real life. All I can say is, life will never be dull for the pair of them.

The one thing that did jar was the revelations made by a secondary character at the end of the book. (I won’t spoil things by giving away who or what.) Although one of those revelations was a wonderful punchline the other jarred and perhaps could have been hinted at earlier. It was, however, a very minor quibble, all things considered.

If you're looking for a cosy read, heavy on the humour, with an ultimately satisfying outcome, this is the book for you.

Giles Sinclair, newly the Duke of Harpenden, enjoys his encounters/bantering with Miss Diana Merriwell. When a family secret could destroy his chances of becoming a better Duke than his father, Giles turns to Diana to get to the bottom of it.

This is a well-written, fun romance. I truly enjoyed the development of the relationship between Diana and Giles. Great chemistry between them. Well done.

I received an advance reader copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
