I received a copy of this book for review from NetGalley. I intended to just read the first few pages while I was eating lunch, and then woke up 3 chapters later. Needless to say, Virginia Heath has the ability to just pull me right into the story, and not let go. This is a fast-paced, witty story with a LOT going on, so brace yourself for a whole bunch of revelations and twists. I will say that the one thing that slowed me down was trying to place characters from previous books, but it has also been a while since I've read them, and it didn't throw me that much after the first chapter or two. Overall, this was a fun romp of a historical, and I enjoyed myself a lot.

This was a cute second in series that finished much stronger than it started. I was planning on reading the first in series first, but ran out of time for ARC review purposes, and was told I could read this as a standalone, so opted for that route. I wish I didn't, because even though this story followed the second Merriwell sister, Diana, there was a lot of background information about other characters in the story that I was clearly missing from book 1, and it made it somewhat hard to follow as I tried to fill in the blanks on my own. The true main character of this book is Giles Sinclair, the roguish son of a Duke, who was recently tipped off to the fact that he is a bastard and not the legitimate heir to his father's dukedom. When his father suddenly dies and he inherits the title, his evil uncle Gervais comes back to town to challenge his legitimacy, and it is up to Diana, the covert gossip columnist and exposé writer at the local paper, to prove his provenance either way. Once all of this background information was settled, the pace of the book picked up considerably and I was more invested in the mystery. It ended in a cliffhanger, which I assume will be picked up in the third installment, even following a different sister. I had a little trouble connecting to Diana as a FMC as she was closed off and a bit prickly, but I tend to always have trouble with female leads who share some of my own worst qualities. I much preferred Giles' charming, self deprecating personality and the exasperatingly hilarious relationship he has with his former pirate butler, Dalton. Now that I am invested in the completion of this storyline I would definitely consider reading the third in series, but try to read the first, first, and really get myself all out of order.

This was a fun regency era romance that hit the right notes for me. I didn't realize this is part of series until after I started it, but that won't stop me from reading the first book after enjoying this one (I actually have an ARC of the first one that I just hadn't gotten a chance to read yet!). I loved Diana and her desire for her career and independence in an era where women were just expected to marry and stay at home. Giles was also a great character and I loved the banter between them.

Loving the Regency romance stories that Heath has been writing about. A great story about a playboy heir and a newspaper investigator. Loved how Giles was actually a sweetheart. My favourite kind of hero.

I've long been a fan of Heath's, and am loving this new series. The sisters and their perfect matches shine with wit and heart. Looking forward to seeing what comes next from this author!

This was delightful. I love a good friends to lovers and Diana and Giles are actually friends. They begin with that snarky, teasing, "no really we do not get along" type of banter, while family all give them a knowing look. Of course they end up being there for each other, having their friendship grow into more, while solving the great mysteries in their lives. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Works perfect as a standalone. I was never confused and was able to follow the storylines perfectly. I have no read Book 1 but enjoyed this one so much, I'll be looking for it.

This is a different style read for me. I am not usually into romantic comedy, but this is also a romance and comedy, and I am glad I gave it a try.

This was a great take on the enemies-to-lovers trope, without too much drama. It was witty, smartly written, and funny. It was also a bit of a fun challenge as the writing style and historical word choice is unfamiliar to me. It was a fun, quirky, romance read.

When I was offered the arc for Never Rescue a Rogue, I happily accepted because historical romance is one of my favorite genres. And this one was certainly up my alley. Virginia does a great job of making a wonderful story on a very independent woman and a duke’s son, who may lose his dukedom. Diana and Giles are witty and strong characters and they have a great chemistry. Never Rescue a Rogue was a very nice read, although Virginia took some time to build up the tension to Giles his problems. I was tempted to put the story down, but it kept me just enough interested to read on. In the second part, the pace picked up and the plot came together quite nice. I really enjoy Virginia Heath's flirty and romcom-ish historical romances - and I liked this newest one. I really loved the 'enemies to friends to lovers' element of this story - it created such a lovely conflict and so much tension between Giles and Diana and I couldn't wait to see how it all turned out!

Virginia is skilled at writing these stories, historical with a touch of humor, and I can't wait for the next one!

Being a romance, the basic plot of this story was predictable, but that's why we read romances right? Because we want that predictability. That being said, there were a lot of fun twists and turns along the way, and even though I figured everything out before the reveals, it kept me guessing for a bit first, not entirely sure I was right even though my gut was telling me I was.

I liked how strong and independent Diana was and that Giles was a genuinely nice guy. Even though he put on a show for the general public, Diana was smart enough to see through it all along, brains that served her well in many areas of her life. And it was a bit heartbreaking to see how Giles felt like he needed to push people away because of his deep, dark secret. I couldn't help but root for these two to succeed in their goals and end up together in the end.

Overall I give Never Rescue a Rogue 4.5 out of 5 stars.

This book is the second in the series and is about Diana who loves her freedom and Giles who loves his bachelor life start working together only for an attraction to form. I read the first book in the series and I enjoyed reading about the oldest sister and now the younger one. The writing was well done and I enjoyed how the style was still the same as the first one. Sometimes the styles change which ruins the book but this one was not like that. I enjoyed the completely different storyline and thought it was better compared to the first one. The pacing was perfect for the story but not the romance. If you care about the plot more then this will be it for you. It was more adventurous and had more learning experiences for the MCs.

The main characters are Diana and Giles. Diana has a secret from her family that she doesn't
want them to know and Giles is struggling and needs help finding the truth about his family. I enjoyed their time together. They had such cute moments and there was development between them. I do have to say that I didn't see much self-development of the characters. There are also many side characters, some of you saw from the first one too. They were involved with the story but not a lot where the focus is on them. The romance was so cute but took so long. It's a very slow burn but it's a he falls in love first trope.

The ending was well done for this book and I'm excited to read the next one. The way it was left off, you can see how the story could be picked up in the future. This was a great read but I have to say that the romance just took way too long for me. It's like watching S2 of the Bridgerton where you only see the romance happen in the last 2 episodes. It's a great series to pick up, especially if you enjoy regency historical books with not-so-spicy romance.

This is the second book in the Merriwell Sisters trilogy. I enjoyed the plot of this one. Enjoyed Diana as a main character more than I enjoyed Minerva. My favorite character in this book was Vee though so I’m very excited to read her story. I felt like this is a book that is forgettable though, there was nothing to really connect my to the characters. The ending resolution was too abrupt. Another winner! This is book 2 in the series and I was very pleased with it. This is the story of Diana Merriwell and Giles Sinclair. The first few chapters were a little heavy, but they were giving the setup of what was to come. Once I got through them the rest of the book flowed much faster. I enjoyed the banter between Diana and Giles. The character of Dalton as Giles right hand man was hilarious, and I liked him maybe more than the Butler in the first book. I definitely look forward to reading the third book in this series.

I liked the main characters in this story. Both Giles and Diana used outward personas to hide their vulnerabilities and keep themselves from getting hurt. As they interact they grow closer and eventually learn to trust each other. I liked that Diana has a strong personality and didn’t capitulate to whatever Giles said while Giles learns the meaning of having someone stand by you no matter what. The mystery part of the story was interesting and I thought it was resolved nicely. There were some twists with one of the side characters and I found him to be intriguing enough that I hope he gets his own story.

Overall, an enjoyable read and a nice addition to the Merriwell Sisters series.

Diana gets involved in helping him to prove his identity and of course, they fall for one another–but must resist!

The writing is juicy: rich with details of period etiquette, clothing and food, and the reparte is fast and satisfying. The book stands alone but seems to move the story of the first in the series forward. There are many funny and poignant moments, strong character development (including of secondary characters), and a darn good action story to boot.

Giles is lovely and funny, and his obvious goading of Diana is a clear sign he is infatuated. The whole book was just enjoyable! A great slowburn with an intriguing mystery, and characters I really loved! I hope we see youngest sister Vee’s love story in the next book!

Never Rescue a Rogue was the perfect book to scratch that Bridgerton/Regency itch. Diana and Giles made a great pair, and I loved following their story. I especially liked the mystery aspect of the book, as it gave it a little something beyond just the normal book tropes. I really enjoyed the side characters, particularly Dalton. I also want to go back and read the first book in this series, though you don't have to read it to understand and enjoy this book. Diana was a strong female lead that I really enjoyed, and Giles was definitely a good match for her.

This series just keeps getting better. Diane and Giles are fantastic characters. Boy did I fall for Giles right from the beginning. This book has everything, and I honestly loved the mystery part. It hooked me right from the beginning.

I can’t wait for the next instalment!

A friend encouraged me to keep going with the first book, as the second was better, and she was right! I do have a soft spot for the rake’s with a scandalous reputation who deep down are big softies. It’s the best type! And throw in a menacingly delivered “touch her and I’ll kill you” and I’m a puddle on the floor!

Diana and Giles’s story was positively delightful. I really loved the mystery that was investigated and uncovered, despite all of the hurdles put in their way. My heart broke for the two as they warred with themselves and their enemies to find the truth.

I also like how this story brought Vee further out of her shell! I can’t wait for her story next! And I have a feeling I know who her intended might be! 😉

Giles Sinclair’s father is the Duke of Harpenden. Both men hate one another. The Duke has never been a good father to him. The Duchess has passed away. When the Duke announces his engagement to a rather dim-witted girl, Giles is shocked and afraid for the life she would live. But, the Duke dies suddenly before the marriage can occur. Giles is now the Duke and learns that his father was incredibly wealthy and also very selfish to others.

Miss Diana Merriwell writes articles for the gossip column of “The London Tribune.” She also harbors a secrets that could cause a huge scandal should it be known. Her father was not a good man and her earlier life was difficult. When her sister married an Earl, she and her other sisters came under his care. The Earl is good friends with Giles and when Diana and Giles meet somewhere, they always spar.

I really loved the first book of this series and found the humor to be great. This book, however, was too full of angst and nail-biting. Diana and Giles have an attraction to one another but it got tiring as one or the other constantly tried to have the upper hand in the relationship. The secret that Giles tried to discover could have and should have been found much sooner. That is why this book dragged for me. My favorite character by far is Dalton and I hope the next story in the series will be about him. But as he is not a Merriwell sister, I fear I shall be disappointed. Maybe the author will include him in the story again at some point.
