It was my pleasure to read this sampler from Minotaur Books and NetGalley. This is my opinion of this book.

I haven’t read one of these samplers before. What a wonderful surprise that I get to read 8 different books from different authors. And I haven’t read any books from any of the authors before now. This is such a great idea.

I’m looking forward to reading the past Volumes and also will look for future Volumes.

Good review sample of some books. I added a few to my TBR read pile. Thank you to NetGalley for the arc.

Great first look at the books. Hooked on them and definitely want to read more. I liked the variety of stories and settings. Good characters, good mystery/thriller vibes.

The Favor
I didn’t get far into this sample before deciding it wasn’t for me. I don’t enjoy the drunk woman trope.

Outside
Another one that I didn’t finish. I read about half of this, but I tend to not like cold settings and was bored with the little that I read.

Last Call at the Nightingale
This one was a quick DNF. I did not enjoy the writing style.

A Rip Through Time
This sample was fun. I already know that I love Kelley Armstrong’s writing, so it’s no surprise that I enjoyed this sample.

Our main character, Mallory, is visiting her grandmother in Edinburgh when she gets attacked in the alley. It just so happens to be in the same place as an attack 150 years ago. She now finds herself in the body of the other woman, Catriona, in the year 1869. This is not a time period I typically enjoy, but I like the way Kelley Armstrong uses humor and a modern protagonist to explore the time period. I expect the rest of the book to include mystery and romance as is typical of this author.

Things We Do In the Dark
Unsurprisingly this was my favorite in the sample. I already know that I love Jennifer Hillier.

We’re immediately pulled into the narrative when Paris is accused of killing her rich, older husband. What makes it even more interesting is knowing that she’s more concerned about secrets from her past coming to light than she is about the murder accusation.

Die Around Sundown
Unfortunately, I barely read any of this. The historical time period did not appeal to be at all.

The Blame Game
This one was intriguing. It seems to be the typical domestic thriller.

This is my first time receiving a "sampler." I'm not normally a short story reader, so I wasn't sure how I would feel about the snipets, and I also didn't know how I would like not being able to continue with the books, but it turns out I loved this! It was great to get a sense of the book and see if you jived with the writing style - that's often a big thing with me, I will commit to a book for review or I'll purchase it on a whim and then whoops, I don't like the writing style. Or it turns out the MC is a jerk but you don't learn right away. So this sampler actually ended up being really helpful in giving me a "taste" of the book. It was actually also nice to not have the same pressure to read an entire book but instead commit a small amount of time before deciding to request or buy.

I always love these samplers, but this one was outstanding. It includes 3 of my favourite authors: Jennifer Hillier, Kelley Armstrong, and Katherine Schellman. Strongly recommend this to any fans of mystery or suspense.

I love me a good sampler. You really get to know a book by its first few pages, and I have discovered a few in this collection that I can't wait to get my hands on. This is going to be a good year for book lovers. Minotaur has delivered a stellar list.

Thank you to #netgally and #minotaur for this sample in exchange for honest reviews!

These samplers as always so much fun to read and I always end up gaining so many new books on my TBR!

The Favor
This book looks good as it gives me such creepy vibes as everything seems okay on the outside but then there seem to be some very dark secrets hiding below the surface.

Outside
This book I am really looking forward to as it has my favorite troupe (locked room) lots and secrets among "friends". This looks great!

Last Call at the Nightingale
If you like rolling 20s crime vibes this seems like the book for you! I already am very interested in all the characters and ready to see how this story unfolds!

The Gatekeeper
This book starts with a BANG. There is so much action and it reminds me of most action movies where you get thrown into the middle of the conflict. Overall, I am very interested in the main character because it seems there is way more than what meets the eye.

A Rip Through Time
NOW this one is you like crime and some sci-fi this is it! I cannot wait to see how this story develops as I have now had so many questions I could not read these chapters fast enough.

The Things We Do in the Dark
This was a great start to a book, I ended up picking this up with my Book of the Month subscription so clearly, I am hooked!

Die Around Sundown
Now personally I think most WWII novels are kinda overdone but I have not seen one like this before and I am excited! I am already in LOVE with the main character!

The Blame Game
This book seems like it will be full of ALL of the twists and turns!!

I absolutely love these samplers and am always watching for the next one to come out!! I have found the best books that I would not have read if not seeing them highlighted in these sampler books! For this specific volume, Things We Do In the Dark! I hope that these samplers keep coming out because they are fantastic for readers that love to see what's coming and what they may be missing out on on their lists of TBR!

Loved these samples! Great thrillers from some of my favorite authors. I'm looking forward to the full copies to see where these stories go. I think some excellent spring book club choices are in the collection. Especially excited to keep reading the Blame Game by Sandie Jones.

This sampler was very helpful in figuring out which of these books I wanted to purchase! I am interested in reading more of the Sandie Jones and Ragnar Jonasson book! Thank you!

I wanted to read this basically for Ragnar Jonasson. It was really good in that was beneficial to read prior to Outside all the way through.

The Minotaur Sampler VOL 5

Thank you for this wonderful sampler that really helped me what books I need to start ASAP versus those that could wait a little bit. I loved how I could prioritize my read and really though the sample I am able to really discover so many amazing authors - Thank you so much for sharing this with me.

I love being able to read a sample of upcoming books to see if I should add any to my list.

From this selection, there were two authors I have read books from before and know that I will enjoy - Ragnar Jonasson and Jennifer Hillier. I had already had the opportunity to read Outside and loved it but Things We Do In The Dark has definitely caught my eye.

I hadn't read books from any of the other authors, but I was interested in both The Blame Game by Sandie Jones and The Favor by Nora Murphy. I would love to finish both of these at some point.
