At first, I read this book as a book of dogs. Actually, after reading the description, this is also can be applied to children. There are so many kids, of different backgrounds, nevertheless, a parent will always love hers/his. They might go to school, or feel abandoned, but mom and dad will always come back for them to comfort each others. What a great illustration.

It’s OK To Be A Puppy by Tom Murdoch is cute book with beautiful illustrations. It’s OK To Be A Puppy tell’s the story of a dog and what he experiences throughout the day and how he is always there for his owners when they are home. This was a fun book to read. I believe it would be good for any type of story time. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book. My review is also on Goodreads.

I loved this picture book about a puppy looking at the world. And it's also a great book to read to help children deal with anxiety. Every parent needs this book on their bookshelf, and every library as well.

It’s OK to be a Puppy: A Bedtime Story of Love and Security. By Tom Murdoch, Illustrator: Osipova Svetlana. 2022. Momma Katie. (ARC eBook).

It’s OK to be a Puppy is a sweet picture book that describes the characteristics of puppies and conveys how they feel. And how such things like toys, routines, understanding and affection is important in the puppy’s development into an adult dog. The prose is rhyming and the illustrations extremely adorable. A great book for kids that have or will be getting a puppy!

This is a really sweet book that I've been reading to my three year old at bedtime. We don't have a dog but I think that makes her love seeing all the different pictures even more. Even if my kiddo is a little on the young side for these themes, these are exactly the kinds of messages I want her to pick up from the books we read.

Maybe it was my wanting to be around a dog, maybe it was that mix of soulful yet playful look in the puppy's eyes, but whatever the reason, I'm glad I decided to give this story a go. It's definitely sweet, and while it's an ode to anyone's love for their puppy and all the joy they can bring with their routines and antics, it also conveys the message that despite all the different characteristics out there, everyone is different, and that's OK.

The illustrations are beautiful and peaceful and made me long for my own doggy to curl up with. They certainly brought both the story and message to life, and I'm sure both children and children at heart will enjoy it.

Many thanks to #Netgalley and the author/publisher for granting an ARC of #ItsOKToBeAPuppy. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and are given voluntarily.

From what. I read of this story it was very cute! However the formatting was so bad that I was only able to get a few pages in before I had to quit reading.

Sweet children's storybook. The illustrations are beautiful and almost look like watercolor paintings. The story is told in rhyming words making it great for small kiddos. I see this more as a book to be read to little ones (ages 2-6) rather than something young readers will want to read themselves. I can easily envision reading this as a bed storybook with your own dog snuggled up beside you. Thank you NetGalley and Momma Katie for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

If you've read any of my other recent book reviews, you'll already know what I'm about to say, right? If this is the first review of mine that you've read, then I usually say that every book starts off with all five of the stars stuck firmly in place and that I'm always hopeful that they will still be stuck equally firmly in place when I close the back cover.

What a gorgeous cover! Simple, cute and makes me hopeful that the words are equally wonderful!

Oooh! I'm loving the simple, affectionate words and rhyme on the first page of the story! I wonder if it'll be the same rhythm on every page or if different pages have different tempo's (wrong word, but I don't know the right one, sorry)?

The second page was a bit weird... it seemed to go from talking about one specific dog ("you") on the first page, then on the second page it's suddenly about a nameless few puppies which might confuse young readers. The third page is back to the specific dog again... it's confusing the mid-lifer, so the intended audience would be getting fidgetty and frustrated already unfortunately.

The fourth page is talking about the specific dog again, so hopefully it'll stay like that throughout the rest of the book.

The fifth page gently teaches loyalty and is still, thankfully, about that one dog again.

The next couple of pages are cute and cuddlesome, but is jumping around again, which could confuse the young audience, so the fifth star is decidedly wobbly now, unfortunately.

Putting my qualified and experienced childcarer hat on here, the children are taught phonetically for several years and "cuh's" doesn't rhyme with "please" in any way, so unfortunately the first star is wobbling off.

The last page is an adorable end... some of the words have been troublesome to read due to the font choice though, unfortunately.

Overall a very cute and well-thought-out book... it could just have done with a few little changes is all.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This adorable picture-book touched me.

With it’s simple rhyming prose, gentle watercolor images, and lovely message, reading this book (with a child, or as an adult with the child-in-you listening ) is like wading into a serene and calming lake - losing yourself to something eternal, something bigger and elemental, - something that in the end, is totally comforting.

Just like puppies (and who doesn’t like puppies?) we are all special, and different - starting out in life with nothing but a few simple needs and a whole lot of love to share.

“yes, you like your little mousey,
And you like your little bone,
You like someone to hold you
So you never feel alone”

And that, in a nutshell, is enough. More than enough, to know that you are loved, and nourished and cared for, right now, for who and what you are.

No need to worry about tomorrow, and all the unknown, exciting things awaiting you. What you might learn, and become and what path you might choose.

And all that you need to do, just like every special puppy out there, is be yourself, living your days, and sharing your love with those around you. And it will be returned.

“Some dogs are good at fetching sticks
Or helping people see.
For guarding doors or working chores
But you bring love to me.”

As did this book - and I couldn’t help but love it back.

A warm and heart-lifting experience to share with any child - just because you can.

A great big thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for an ARC of this book. All thoughts presented are my own.

A sweet little book, perfect for little one's hands. Beautifully illustrated and and with rhyming verse, it shows a puppy with his favorite toys, and how he is loved by his family.
I loved the soft colors used to illustrate, and the wagging puppy tail.
This is a great book for children 3 to 7 years!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Momma Katie, and was not required to give a positive review.

What an adorable book about a dog being exactly who he needs to be by being exactly who he is. Dog lovers will find this delightful.

This is a sweet book about a cute puppy who is loved and cherished by its people. The tone is very soothing and the art is soft and calm, so this would make a great wind down book for small children. The story is told in verse, so kids can be encouraged to identify rhyming words. Sometimes word choice and meter are sacrificed for the rhyme and the pattern of emphasis changes mid-stanza, so give this a pre-read before reading aloud. Given how much children are fascinated by puppies, I can imagine this becoming a favorite bedtime book!

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
