So happy there is a kit for this book! ♥️

I read this novel at the beginning of the year and was captivated by the story telling and knew I wanted to include this in my class’s reading curriculum but honestly was struggling with creativity for creating an engaged experience that still handled these topics with sensitivity.

Looking forward to sharing this novel with my students and using the kit to help us all along. The discussion questions are of course great, but also loved the recommendations for books also by indigenous authors and ways to support their community. The author interview was so insightful and impactful!

I absolutely LOVED Firekeeper's Daughter and I can't wait to reread it with my book club.

The interview with Angeline Boulley is my favourite part of this guide. It's always so interesting to hear more an author's creation process!

Glad that this kit suggested some other excellent Indigenous reads and ways to support Indigenous communities.

One of the most stunning novels I read in 2021 was Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley. This debut includes so many themes and nuances, and as a person who is not Indigenous, I found that I learned a lot in reading it. This Book Club Kit adds immensely to the novel. Angeline Boulley's author note and interview both shed light on the personal details that made their way into the book, as well as what she wanted the book to convey to readers - Indigenous or not. The discussions questions are very thought-provoking and sure to inspire long conversations with your book club. This kit also includes printable bookmarks, reading recommendations for other books by Indigenous authors, a list of organizations to support Indigenous communities, and other resources for readers and their loved ones. This is an insightful book kit that further elevates Firekeeper's Daughter.

This was my first time with a Netgalley book club tool kit and I found it very useful and insightful.

I'm not part of a book club so I just used the prompts and questions to help process my thoughts and feelings after finishing the book.

It has a very in depth and thought provoking discussion section which i would definitely recommend for a book club.

This made me very excited to purchase this book. I think that creating book club kits is such a brilliant idea because many people picked up reading during the pandemic while quarantining alone at home. These will allow us to get more involved with the book community and enhance our experiences

First off what a gorgeous Book Club Kit to share with members. I love that there are trigger warning listed front and center. Some members will need it and others can just skip past it. Thanks for the very concise yet descriptive description about the book. I also appreciate the author's biography because she is a debut novelist.

I especially loved the author's note. It gave me the chills. The native language is perfect to see in print right away and then followed up with the knowledge that her father was a firekeeper makes it even more special. I love the line "Only good thoughts and words feed that special fire." If only we could live by that fire within always.

It was great to know that this story came from a love of telling stories to and for her daughter. I love the strong female lead who do not always fit in but mean something in their community. The included interview really showed the reader Boulley's inner workings and purpose. I too picked this as my favorite 2021 cover and appreciated the love and highlight within the kit. So many important issues were addressed and makes the reader think even deeper.

Even after the interview was over, the additional questions to ponder are FANTASTIC! These will be so useful to spawn discussion with the help on the printable discussion guide. Book club members will appreciate the book marks as a take away gift.

Thank you for highlighting Indigenous books that aren't as well known for future reads, covering a variety of age groups. The support and resources section is wonderful and can be very useful for groups looking for a way to give back or delve deeper. Overall superb and extremely useful!

I absolutely loved the section that has other indigenous authors to read and resources to support indigenous communities. Books can help in creating social change, and this book club guide takes some excellent strides in helping this to happen.

I 100% recommend this book and the book guide that goes with it!

Definitely a great book club kit to help with discussing this book! Firekeeper’s Daughter was nothing short of phenomenal. This contemporary fiction novel is a story told by and about Native Americans, written by Indigenous storyteller Angeline Boulley, specifically highlighting the experiences of Native women. Firekeeper’s Daughter is a thriller that takes place in Michigan’s UP right on the Canadian boarder and the tribal lands in the area. Daunis is such a compelling, badass MC to narrate us through the ups and downs that unfold through this story of community, pain, love, family, and identity. It’s a powerful book that kept me swept up in the story until the very end. I appreciate how much of Indigenous culture and language was infused in the storylines. From hockey to murder to meth to science to navigating biracial and bicultural identities, this novel doesn’t shy away from any topic.

This book club guide was so engaging that I went out and bought the book! I thought the discussion questions were really well rounded and balanced and the extensive author interview really brought the book to life as well as gave some insight into the process of getting published. I think it would have been really interesting to have a segment on the development of the cover design too.

this is cool. the most stressful thing about a book club is planning it. this takes all that away. it gives you questions, talking points, and other ideas. kits like this are essential to planing a good bookclub

Great Book Club kit to get a conversation going around the Firekeeper's Daughter. I liked the interview with Angeline Boulley and I just requested some of the suggested texts from my local library to read next! The bookmarks are beautiful and match the novel cover with two of my favorite quotes on them.

"Firekeeper’s Daughter" has attracted my attention numerous times on social media as one of the main books of 2021. And this kit served really well to convince me that the story is truly intriguing and outstanding, speaking in its very own voice and reflecting a unique and at the same time globally important subject of indigenous character in a world where standing out means being stronger than most people.
I enjoy reading author's interviews and the acknowledgements page in books - it broadens the overall impression and gives an interesting context to the story. And so I found this piece of information very appealing. Even though I'm yet to read "Firekeeper’s Daughter" I enjoyed the story's backstory, the wonderful bits in the Anishinaabe language, the inspiration and the author's journey towards this beautiful debut.

Thank you to the team of creators behind this truly wonderful Book Club Kit.

I really enjoyed this book club kit, particularly the author interview. Firekeeper's Daughter is already an incredibly powerful and important book, and the interview adds a new layer of insight for readers. I think it's something any audience of this book can benefit from.

The discussion questions do a good job of asking the reader to think more deeply about the cultural elements in the book, without leading readers to discussions that could be disrespectful or appropriative. They're very sensitively written, and I can see some really powerful discussions happening.

I like the additional resources provided, such as ways to support Indigenous communities and other books by Indigenous authors. I do wonder if there's more that could be included in this book club kit, that I've seen in others kits, like playlists and food... yet I see how that could easily be appropriative to include snacks, songs, etc for the book club meeting if not done correctly. But the book is more than a serious story, it also shows joy and fun, and I think the book club kit could have more of those fun elements without being appropriative. For example, tying in hockey somehow, or using popular music from the early 2000s when it takes place.

The layout of this book club kit is great. I'm appreciative of the content warnings at the beginning as well as the list of resources at the end that point readers to various organizations that can help in different capacities. I love that this kit included a list of other books by Indigenous authors so readers can continue to diversify their reading experiences. I will definitely be referring back to this kit when I read The Firekeeper's Daughter!

This was a brilliant kit.
We used it in our bookclub this month.
All the questions and discussion topics are very detailed and gives the readers the chance to talk about the entirety of the book.
A very great way to host discussions.

Firekeeper's Daughter is already looking like it will be a top book of the year for me, so I was excited to check out this Book Club Kit and see the kinds of content within / what other questions folks were thinking of in reading this novel.

It feels like there is enough content in here to lead for a great book club discussion, yet not so much content that it feels overwhelming. I think I would definitely use these materials if I were to lead a book discussion on this book. The only thing that I will note is that I have not read any of the books recommended at the end, and thus cannot speak to whether I would recommend those or include those in the kit. I also liked how they included resources for mental health and supporting indigenous communities at the end - important to take care in reading and discussing these heavy topics.
