This is the first book I have read by this author. I am sorry to say that I did not really enjoy this book. The story line was good, but it could have been so much better.. I really struggled to read this, I had to stop and go back to it multiple times. Maybe it was the writing style. I think a 2 person POV would have improved it. The writing does not seem as polished as other authors in this genre. I do believe that this author has talent, she just needs a little more time to smooth out the rough patches.

This was a quick and lighthearted read for me! Lizzy Chung takes some much needed time away from her job as an attorney to spend a few weeks in a small, quiet town, away from the hustle and bustle of LA. Her best friend of 20 years, Jack, is delighted to have her in his hometown, and the more time they spend together, the more they realize they're more than just best friends. I knew from the moment I started the book exactly how it would end, but the story was still a delight to read! I didn't know there was two prior books in the series and definitely will be checking those out!

A bookstore romance! Set in California, Booked on a Feeling is about self discovery, figuring out what you love, and being happy. Working through struggles such as being an overachiever and dealing with your parents' expectations. I enjoyed learning about the Korean families and being in the bookstore!

This was a sweet and cute romance. Lizzie is a lawyer in LA that needs a break and returns for a few weeks to her small hometown four hours away. She spends time with her best friend, Jack, while there and helping out a local bookstore. Jack has been in love with Lizzie for a long time. She starts to see him as more than just a friend. This was a little slow to me at times, but overall an enjoyable read. Thank you NetGalley for this ARC,

DNF'd at 30%. This just wasn't the book for me, the writing fell flat and a lot of the dialogue was awkward and not realistic in my opinion. I didn't feel any connection to the characters and just never wanted to pick it up and find out how they get together/how everything works out. I tend to be quite picky about romance novels so I would still consider recommending this to voracious romance readers, especially those looking for a 'friends to lovers' storyline.

I’ve truly enjoyed this entire series, and while I have a soft spot in my heart for best friends Aubrey (baker extraordinaire) and Tara (wizardly brewer), I loved getting to meet Tara’s brother Jack close-up with his best friend Lizzie.

Lizzie is an extreme overachiever, but to the point where she is absolutely miserable. And after fainting during a huge trial of hers, she decides to go on vacation for three weeks, visiting her best friend in his hometown. But what Lizzie doesn’t expect is to start seeing her best friend in a whole new light – and to fall in love with the town.

Jack has harbored feelings for Lizzie since they met, but he has never let them be known. That said, spending every waking moment with her for three weeks is an entirely new challenge he didn’t expect to face. And when she starts looking at him in this new way… it takes all the self-control he can muster not to fall in love with her, but is he truly succeeding at that anyway?

This is an adorable friends to lovers romance with a bit of a second chance romance trope thrown in. It’s also a fun small town romance with a wonderful representation of mental health (anxiety) I still think A Sweet Mess was my favorite in this series, but all three of them are adorable and you’ll love the characters instantly.

Booked on a Feeling
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Format: Kindle eBook, Audiobook, and Physical
Date Published: 7/26/22
Author: Jayci Lee
Publisher: St. Martin’s Press (ebook) and Dreamscape Media (audio)
Pages: 320
Goodreads Rating: 3.47

I requested a digital advanced readers copy from NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press, and Dreamscape Media, I am providing my opinion voluntarily and unbiased.

Synopsis: Lizzy "Overachiever" Chung, Esq. has her life mapped out. What was not in her plans was passing out from a panic attack during a pivotal moment in her career. A few deep breaths and a four hour drive later, Lizzy is in Weldon for three weeks to shed the burnout and figure out what went wrong. Jack Park didn't expect to see Lizzy back in Weldon, but now he's got three weeks to spend with the girl of his dreams. Except she doesn't know of his decades-long crush on her--and he intends to keep it that way. When Lizzy decides that the local bookstore needs a little revamp, of course, Jack is going to help her bring it back to life. But the more time they spend together, the harder it becomes to ignore there might be more than just friendship among the dusty shelves and books...

My Thoughts: The story is narrated in a dual narration fashion by Lizzy and Jack, in their perspectives. This book gave me all of the feels!! Team Lizzy/Jack ALL THE WAY! I enjoyed the narration as well, I switched back and forth between the digital and audio copy. I am in the legal profession as a paralegal and I love any book that touches on the legal profession. The characters are well developed with depth, instant connection, hot chemistry, witty banter, and lovely supporting characters. I could see spin off books with some of the supporting characters. The author’s writing style is complex, creative, romantic, and the way the characters are written to be interwoven into each other lives is just brilliant. This book made me laugh, made me cry, made me mad, made me sad, and just took me on this wonderful rollercoaster of emotions. I have already added this author’s backlist to my TBR. I highly recommend that you pickup this book immediately!!!

2.9 ⭐

Listen, Booked on a Feeling is not a bad book. It just wasn't for me. If you are big fan of the childhood friends to lovers trope, give this novel a chance. I'm not usually drawn to stories such as Jack and Lizzy's, and so I found myself a bit bored... but I really wanted to like them. I appreciate the author's incorporation of Korean culture and using Korean words, often without translation. As someone who knows Korean it felt (personally) refreshing to have the author write with the assumption that everyone reading already knows the terms.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for providing me with a digital ARC of this book.

This was a really cute friends to lovers trope. Parts of the plot were hard to get on board with, but the characters in this novel were really likeable. The small town plot really helped this romcom and made it a vacation in itself. This made for a great summer read!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me an advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

I wanted to love this book. I love books about books and bookstores. But I just didn't care about this couple or their story. It aggravated me and I just didn't enjoy it.

A cute bookish romance that’s light and fluffy? Sign me UP! This book was honestly sugar, spice, and everything nice. Even though the book was pretty fluffy, I wasn’t bored. The book was cute from start to finish. Also, this is a friends to lovers romance which I have found myself liking more and more!

I was so excited to read this book. This is the third book in the A Sweet Mess series. I loved the other two, and was excited for this one as well! I thought this book was cute, but I didn’t love it as much as the others in the series.

This was a childhood friends to lovers trope. Which I was excited to read about, but I felt like the romance didn’t work for me. I didn’t feel like the romance was realistic, which made it hard for me to connect to. I did enjoy the small town and bookstore setting. I love books with a small town! Overall, I enjoyed the book, it just wasn’t my favorite in the series. The series can be read as stand alone, but would be better enjoyed reading together!

Thank you Netgalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

There were many things about this book that I loved- the Korean representation, the single mom aspect, the bookstore setting, and the journey for Lizzy. However, there were some things I didn’t love- the quick leap in the romance, the mother/daughter dynamic that never got closure, and a few other things that didn’t sit right with me. Overall, this was a sweet romance with a diverse character representation.

Lizzy is an attorney and Jack is a brewery worker; they’ve been best friends since childhood. After Lizzy wins her first case she begins to reevaluate her profession and what makes her happy. She takes some time off and goes to Weldon, a small town where Jack lives.

This was a nice sweet romance, not a lot of drama and easy to read. I did find myself a little bored with the plot and was looking for a little more excitement and I didn’t find myself too attached to each character but other than that it was a good read.

This was a cute romance with a classic friend's to lovers trope set inside a local bookstore in small town Nevada. Jack and Lizzy have been friends for 20 years-just friends. When Lizzy takes an impromptu vacation from work to visit Jack in his hometown of Weldon, things start to develop between the two that are very un-friend like. With their lives heading in two separate directions they struggle to figure out what they want to do, who they want to be, and if there is room for their relationship in their lives. Booked on a Feeling was a quick read with lots, and I mean lots, of miscommunications and insecurities, so much so that I got very frustrated with the 2 MC's multiple times throughout the story. Still, I had a fun time reading it and enjoyed a classic HEA.

A fine read that is completely forgettable. Everything went a little too well to be believable or fulfilling in any way. The physical part of the romance was mostly a series of fade to black moments. I liked the friendship more than the romance. It was also pretty repetitive and too long. Overall, it missed the mark for me, but was an easy enough way to pass the time.

In this latest instalment of this small cozy small town romance series, we have Lizzy a big shot lawyer who just won her first trial case as head chair, and is need of a small vacation as her anxiety has never been worse. Enter Jack her childhood best friend and the one person who has always been with her. She decides to spend a few weeks in the small town Jack and his family lives in to reset and recharge. Jack has been holding onto feeling for Lizzy since they were 10, and after 2 decades he is ready to either finally get together or let go of his hope of romance forever.

I have not read many friends to lovers that i have enjoyed but this one his the spot nicely, with steamy scenes, a book store and reading playing a huge role, lots of pining, and great writing.

This one just didn’t end up working out for me. I ultimately ended up DNFing the book shortly after halfway in. I am giving a rating based on what I did read, and why I chose not to finish. This book will not be featured on my IG account since it’s a DNF.

Although I thought the author made a good attempt at getting the reader interested by means of writing a book about book lovers for book lovers, it fell flat. I struggled at every turn to get immersed and stay engaged. I did like the representation of handling anxiety, and the friends to lovers trope, but ultimately it was a miss.

If you keep up with my reading (which isn’t too hard to do since it has been pretty slow this year but I am on a mission to change that) you know I loved The Dating Dare and A Sweet Mess. In matter of fact, I pronounced myself a fan of the series, so when Booked on a Feeling was about to come out I was as happy as one romance lover can be.

I was looking forward to get back to a small town Weldon as I missed that cozy feeling this series provides.

In the third installment, when it comes to that cozy feeling, the author didn’t disappoint.
However, the sense of humour lacked and after I finished the book I realized I didn’t laugh out loud. Not even once, and that realization turned into disappointment.

The writing style was good and I flew through the pages.
Still, even if the chemistry between the two MCs was good and their reasoning for not acting on their feelings made sense at time, after a while all the miscommunication (or the lack of it) and “will they or won’t they” agenda started to get on my nerves, and I just wanted them to find the way to each other and be over with.

The obvious story development without any surprises or the fact that the main “bad guy” was countries away didn’t help either.

Overall, I did like the book but it isn’t even comparable to it’s ancestors.
Yet, I am happy I read Booked on a Feeling and will gladely continue with the series if the author decides to write more books (which I hope she will).

I would give this a solid 3.5 stars. Booked on a Feeling follows Lizzy Chung, a high-power lawyer from LA who, on a whim, decides to take 3 weeks off from her career when she finds that it doesn't bring her the joy and feeling of accomplishment it should. She moves to a small town just outside of the Sierra Nevada, which is the hometown of her best friend since childhood, Jack Park. Much to Jack's delight, since he's been in love with Lizzy for over a decade. The two take on the endeavor of remaking a bookstore in Jack's hometown together.

I don't have much to say about the book. For starters, Jayci Lee's writing was a bit above the average for contemporary romance. She has descriptive writing. She has great sensory descriptions to fully immerse you in the story. Despite the quality of writing, I think the story itself is one that fades into a large pool of contemporary romances out there. The chemistry between Lizzy and Jack was sort of there? but was also heavily relying on the friends part of friends to lovers. The main issue, time and time again, with friends to lovers is the lack of relationship development. Because the characters are already best friends, more often than not the author doesn't put as much effort into developing the attraction between these two characters.

I liked this but I didn't love it.
