I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and all opinions expressed are entirely my own.

The book follows brothers Chug and Thug who are given a chance to ride their tricycle to school to avoid being late for class with strict instruction from their mother. This is cute book about listening , peer pressure and siblings. It is a cute book and a conversation starter among parents and children.

Ohhh Chug and Thug- you cute little dudes! I fell in love with these brothers immediately upon seeing them snug as a bug in their rug! Lovely and bright illustrations had me turning the pages faster than my brain could process what I was reading. OH, AND I'M A SUCKER FOR RHYMES- YES PLEASE, THIS HAS ALL THE RHYMING FUN I NEEDED!

When mom wakes these sleepy boys up and informs them that they must walk- GASP- they set their sights on their glorious TRIKE!
What a lively and spirited adventure follows as Chug and Thug make their way to school where they'll run into friendly faces who stop to offer some (unwarranted) advice. They listen, and do as they're told until they're in a pickle and out of options- will they make it on time to school, or will they be late?!

Fresh and modern take on an Arabian fable that would be perfect to spark dialogue on speaking up and how to handle societal and peer pressure - all the while keeping it engaging entertaining.

Extra kudos to Gemal for even including some discussion questions at the end to guide parents and kids into expressing their thoughts and feelings.

Thank you so much to booksgosocial and Netgalley for the ebook to read and review

Chug and Thug have to get to school on their own and as it’s far take their trike but on the journey so many bugs tell them what they should and shouldn’t do, this leaves them so confused as to what is right or wrong and what they need to do.

After they hear so many different ideas they use their clever minds to decide for themselves once more and that’s such an important lesson that though others opinions are great, ultimately yours is the one that matters. It’s a good way to help get a child to think and understand different perspectives.

I really enjoyed the illustrations in this one the bugs were drawn so beautifully and I loved seeing each picture as the story progressed. Such a sweet and wonderful book that can help children learn in many ways.

I'm fond of the folk tale this book is based upon, so I was interested to see how it might be updated to help a modern child grasp the concept. Frankly, though, I don't know that replacing the donkey with a tricycle really works. And being a rhyming picture book, the text is fairly labored at times, sacrificing easy comprehension in the name of keeping to the rhyme.

I read this story to my kids and we can say we enjoed it. The 2 brothers are having a dilemma, how to get to school with only one tricycle. Many friends are telling them what to do.
Thanks to Netgalley for this nice story.

This was a sweet book based on a 13th century Arabian tale. My 4 year old twins enjoyed the rhyming, and were able to come away with the main lesson at the end. The moral of the story is to follow what you think is right, and don’t give in to peer pressure.

On the way to school on their trike, Chug and Thug get advice from friends and adults on how to best ride (or not ride) their trike. In the end, they realize that they must think for themselves and not always follow the advice of others. My kids enjoyed this cute story and the colorful illustrations!

This was such a cute book, showing bugs as just regular kids going to school. The writing is written in rhyme, which always makes story-time more fun! It had a good message to not always follow what others tell you to do, but what you think is right.

This is the second book in the Chug and Thug Alug series. First I would like to say I love the detailed and vivid illustrations by David Mocedo. It is about 2 brothers who get the first chance to ride their trike to school. Along the way they get many suggestions on how to get the bike to school from friends and adults. This is a great book to open the topic of peer pressure, making your own mind up, and common sense to your child. Done in rhyme form it will keep your child interested. Based on a old story. For ages 3-7.

I read this to my kids at bedtime. My almost 7 year old really enjoyed it. Chug and Thug is based on an Arab tell from long ago. The illustration is great and is a cute, short story to read together. It also has a great message for anyone of all ages. Especially young Kids.

Chug and Thug Alug were excited that their mother let them ride their tricycle to school. On the journey, the brothers are repeatedly advised on the best way to get to school so they have to decide what is the best option.

As expanded upon in the Parent and Teacher Note, this is an interesting story demonstrating peer pressure and the difficulty in making your own decisions when there is external influence. In school, this would be useful as an example of this, making for a good tool to instigate class discussion.

The story is written in a four-line structure using an alternate rhyming scheme. This gives a nice rhythm to the text but does at times feel that the word choice is forced, impacting clarity.

While the characters are well-drawn, the overall style does feel dated, reminiscent of an early digital drawing style, particularly when positioned alongside picture books of the ilk (such as in a library). The bold character outlines, however, would be achievable for children wishing to recreate them.

The topic and writing style make this ideal for reading to four to eight-year-olds. From the vocabulary used and how much of it is phonetically decodable, a child would be about seven years old to read this independently or with minimal support.

It was a cute story and I really enjoyed the big world. The lesson was great for children to learn. The rhyming was at times detrimental to the story or different studying should have been used.

This book is a sweet rendition on showing children valuable life lessons. Reading books to my toddler is one of the ways we bond and this book is nothing like anything we have on our current shelf. I particularly enjoyed the illustrations - the bug character's are not a usual choice - which I loved! I also found the writing to be great, especially because it rhymed, which made for a great read for children (and easy for parents to get through). The overall plot of the story was sweet and a true lesson for children to learn at a young age. Opinions will always come, welcomed or not, but it is always important to listen to your gut and make a decision for yourself without others influencing.
