I received this Arc from Netgalley. Thank you for the chance to read this book early. My review is honest and 100% my own thoughts about the book.

This book was written with an awesome mix of paranormal and science fiction. Especially when the MC can see magical entities they called Angels. These Entities are what we call “alien life forces” and they tend to blend into the human race to watch people and gather information.
The book is full of twist and turns. At one point there is a mass confusion at what is going on until you put all the pieces together. It is full of secrets that if discovered could mean death.

I really enjoyed the almost dream like reality that it had. I felt like I was in a suspenseful movie.

I was absolutely fascinated by this story and the characters who are narrating it. I've never seen two such opposite narrators in one book before, but I love the contrast. I swear by the end of the first chapter, you feel like you've known Lila forever. She's open, and you get some great insight into her, and her life. Sal feels more detached, and seeing his POV is so different. Although Sal's side holds less emotions, that doesn't make me not like him. It somehow works, but doesn't make him feel painfully cold or distant. The plot moves along smoothly and fairly quickly, and I love the cross-over between paranormal and sci-fi. I loved this book, and I truly hope there are more to come!

I mean... it was alright and interesting, but not as nice as other stories with the same subject. The protagonist was okayish, but I couldn't get myself to care about what was happening.

Daughters of Men by J. Martain is a complicated book full of religious imagery and alien concepts. Told from two points of view the story moves along quickly but can be confusing at times. The main character Lila has an ability to see people's spirits or energy which she calls angels. She unexpectedly meets up with a quirky robotic guy named Sal who is clearly not human but the reader doesn't really know what he is. The story can be cryptic at times even as you learn more about Lila and Sal and their strange connection. The story involves a lot of religious undertones and a big good versus evil plot that doesn't entirely get resolved by the end of the book. This wasn't a lover-hate book but more middle of the line for me..

In a small coastal town, a single mother with special sight that allows her to see more than your average human struggles to connect with those around her. A stranger to town threatens to unravel her life in new ways that can have major consequences for both of them as well as her daughter.
At times slow and overly descriptive, the relationships and struggles of the characters was very well fleshed out. The paranormal and scifi blend was also well done. As it’s a slower pace than other novels in this genre, some readers might find a harder time enjoying this book.

This was a strange book and I’m not sure I understood fully what was going on. Some humans were experimented on by aliens causing strange abilities. Lila has always been able to see little things flying out of herself and others that she called Angels. Sal is a alien who was sent to watch for anomalies in humans. They meet and eventually he explains why and what to her. There is talk of alternative worlds that I didn’t really understand but I believe this book just wasn’t for me. It was well written so others may be able to get into and understand it better.

Ummm..... what? I'm sorry, this book confused the hell out of me. It is well-written, slightly snarky and sarcastic, sometimes really funny. But a lot of the book was confusing and hard to keep up with. Maybe the author is just too smart for me. She's really good, though.

As much as I enjoy a good sci-fi, I won't be looking fur the 2nd book. I had to drag myself through the last 30% of this one.

Thanks to Netgalley, Jennifer Martain and Reserved Seat Press for allowing me to read this ARC. All opinions are my own.

The interesting characters and multi-layered plotlines here should make for a great story. It’s a little more Sci-Fi than I usually go for, but if it had lived up to the cover description, I think I would’ve liked it. However, the pace is achingly slow with overly detailed descriptions and incredibly repetitive inner monologues that detract from the often-confusing plot. I found myself skimming a lot just to wind up at a very abrupt ending with no resolution. I understand this is the first in a series, but I would have liked a few loose ends tied up at least.

Thank you to Netgalley and J. Martain for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I was I sure about this book but was interested to discover what a mix of sci-fi and paranormal fantasy would turn out like. I did find out and it was very successful ! The characters and descriptions of places were interesting and complex. My only slight criticism is that the action is bogged down a bit in a couple of places making the pace slow. Will be buying the next book.

Indeed a character-driven story. Martain knows how to write, I enjoyed every bit of this. An easy 4.5 stars for me.
