While this book sets up what could be a complex and interesting mystery, it introduces too many tangents and leaves too many unresolved questions to be truly satisfying. There are so many characters in the book that the narrative doesn't have enough time to properly develop them all, and so many are left one-dimensional despite having varying degrees of importance to the main plotline.

Additionally, the story was clearly written with sequels in mind and so leaves several significant plot threads about the protagonist hanging, which results in an ultimately unsatisfying and somewhat frustrating conclusion. Mystery novels, in my opinion, should be more self-contained, rather than being written with the intention of splitting major story arcs across multiple books.

Overall, while I found some of the plot twists interesting, the book as a whole didn't leave a fantastic impression.

The Last Lie Told is the first of the Finely O'Sullivan series. The author has the ability to tell a compiling story that will have readers questioning everyone Finley comes across even Finley herself at times.

I have to admit I am not a lawyer and yet at times I found that Finley seem to be breaking the law and will be protected because of who her family are. Which can be frustrating at times because you will find you like Finley but using her family powers as a way to justify breaking the law.

This can be seen as the author knows little about being a lawyer. Debra Webb is showing the world how she sees that if you have powerful family, they will protect you no matter what.

Thank you to Netgalley for the advance copy of The Last Lie Told.

Finley O'Sullivan is reeling from her husband being murdered right in front of her a year ago. Since then, she no longer works for the DA but instead is working for her god father, Jack Finnegan, who is she named after.

Lance Legard was murdered 5 years ago, and his killer was already in jail serving his sentence. But now after recanting his confession, he states has new evidence that will get him a new trial as he points to Cecillia Legard, the daughter of Lance Legard, as the person who killed him.

Jack is asked to represent the Legard family which consists of Sophia the mother, the twins Olivia and Cecillia, He brings in Finley to help him investigate and find out what the investigators missed the first time. Finley is not afraid to get the truth, no matter the cost and she will have to learn how to unravel the families past. She quickly learns that the twins and Sophia are very complex. Sophia would do anything to keep the girls safe and the twins are no longer close and blame one another.

While she is investigating the case, the death of her husband gets a new investigator. They have not found his killer even though he was killed right in front of Finley.

I enjoyed this book and went in knowing not everything would be resolved in the first book. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

I love strong female characters, and we get that with Finley O'Sullivan, a private detective working for her godfather to unearth evidence ignored by the police. She's driven by the desire to find the person (she thinks she knows who it is) who murdered her husband and bring him to justice. There are lots of flawed, damaged characters in this story, many of which you root for. However, there are multiple plot lines that often are hard to follow. There are also lots of unanswered questions too. Since this is a series, perhaps these will be addressed in upcoming books. For example: Who killed Derrick? Is there something buried in the backyard? and What is the meaning behind the rapist's cryptic message?

Finley is a likeable, gutsy character so I continued on wanting to find out the outcome. There were some good surprises at the end that made part of this read worthwhile.

Love Debra Webb I have read all her books and this one didn’t disappoint at all! Can’t wait for the next one! Always a treat when I’m able to read her books!

This is the first book of a series and I will definately want to read the rest when they come out.
Finley is a Legal Investigator whose husband was killed. As she is trying to figure out who killed him she is investigating a murder of a man who had twin daughters. The man who is behind bars for the murder is now recanting his story.
Finley has so much going on. Her mother is a judge and is not close to her. The Judge, as Finley calls her, is cold and standoffish and Finley can't seem to do anything right in her eyes. Finley's dad is the opposite and is always there for her.
We keep finding out things about Finley's husband and as we read and get near the end of the book we still have questions, which is what I am assuming the rest of the series will be based on.
The twin daughters are very opposite each other, one is living with their mom and is an introvert, very different than before her dad was killed. The other twin left town to move on with her life. But I was trying to figure out who is really who they say they are.
Meanwhile Finley is questioning another woman which also opens up another can of worms.
By the time I got to the end of the book I had thought I had things figured out and then bam, we are hit with a twist.
Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for the book to review.

Legal investigator Finley O’Sullivan searches for evidence the police overlooked, wading through secrets, lies, and betrayal to find answers. With the unsolved murder of her husband still very much on her mind, Finley must confront her own personal trauma on a daily basis. Lies are part of her livelihood, but they’re also the reason she can’t get justice for the man she loved.
When a man imprisoned for murder recants his confession, claiming he cleaned up the mess for his girlfriend the victim’s own daughter Finley takes on the case. She discovers the victim had identical twin daughters…and the sisters have very different accounts of the crime.
As she dives headlong into the twins’ traumatic past, Finley will have to contend with her own demons to get to the truth before it’s too late.
Can’t wait for the next book really enjoyable read totally recommend

Just ok. I really don't like books that don't give answers, just more questions. I suppose that is the incentive to keep reading the series. I felt this book was convoluted and had too many characters to introduce all at once. I had figured out the twist early and while the author wrapped it up well, it seemed anticlimatic. (less)

The Last Lie Told is the first book in the Finley O’Sullivan series. It is so nice to be able to read the first book in a new series.

This series begins with a man convicted of murder recants his confession. Jack Finnegan, attorney, is hired to represent twins Olivia and Cecelia Legard. Jack is Finley's god-father and she is named after him. After recovering from a traumatic breakdown, he hires her to be an investigator for his firm. She searches for evidence the police may have overlooked, but she comes under attack from those wanting to protect their own secrets.

The murder of Finley's husband is unsolved after almost a year, she is investigating this for herself as well. A few secrets are revealed that there are some things she didn't know about her husband. This lays the groundwork for future plots in hopefully many books to come.

This is a wonderful start to a new series. The characters are likeable and have flaws that are revealed like a onion, peeling back one layer at a time. Finley O’Sullivan is a determined strong woman that you can't help wishing she was someone you could get to know personally.

There were many twists and turns in this story to keep you guessing along the way. I suspected early on and was rewarded at the end that this was a complicated but riveting conclusion. So happy there will be further books to enjoy, well worth the read and highly recommend this one.

Wow!

I started The Last Lie Told, yesterday and finished early this morning. Every responsibility I had thought was crucial to get done became less important with each flip of the page.

The characters are realistic and compelling, at multiple points I found myself rooting for them. The story line was well written and the twist was executed with perfection.

I am not usually into the procedural/detective type of book but I was instantly drawn in with just the cover alone! Debra Webb nailed this one and I can not wait to see what is in store for her future.

With thanks to #NetGalley for an advance copy of #LastLieTold. It took a little while to become fully engrossed by this story, however it sucked me in. Interesting story and as it is the first in a series I'm hoping to become addicted to Finlay O'Sullivan and her endeavours.

Cock-A-Freakin'-Doodle-Do! 😳😯🤯😳

There's just nothing like a good crime thriller mystery to me. This one delivered and satisfied me perfectly. This entire novel lacks nothing in intrigue, suspense, mystery and of course, drama! Get ready to gobble up & savour this like your favourite candy. Believe me when i say it's fast paced and before you know it you'll be finished you'll be so wrapped up in the plot.

Mყ 𝐒ყɴ𝐨ρѕιѕ: Finley used to be a lawyer, until her husband was brutally murdered in front of her and she had a breakdown. Now, she works with her godfather, Jack, investigating different cases. While dealing with the unsolved murder of her husband, Jack gets a case he wants Finley on as well. A man in prison who confessed to murders, claims one particular in particular, he had had no hand in, but only to clean up the act of his girlfriend... who happened to be the victim's daughter. As Finley tries to unearth the truth of that night and who's truth, she'll realize her own past could cause chaos for the present.

I absolutely loved how Webb tied in both the past of Finley as well as the present case and helped you understand her as a character better. And I loved her tenacity and creative takes on investigating to boot! And that ending - wooie! That was a real humdinger. I didn't see it coming and even after going back and forth myself on what and who I was still shocked when it was revealed. Webb knows how to sideline you like a quarterback at the end zone! I can't wait to read more in this coming-to-be series.

Thank you to NetGalley & Amazon Publishing for this ARC.

This is my first book by Debra Webb and I cannot wait to read more books by the author. The book is set in Nashville Tennessee and follows legal investigator Finley O’Sullivan. Finley is still working through the murder of her husband when she begins a case that will change her life. The case involves a last minute confession from a prisoner and a powerful musical family-The Legards. One of the Legards twins murdered their father but they don't know who . Fast paced, addictive and worth the read!

I enjoyed The Last Lie Told, a mystery set in Nashville involving past murder and betrayals. Finley, a disgraced attorney works as an investigator for her friend Jack. Together, they set out to find out who really murdered Lance Legard.

The writing of this thriller is smooth and captivating. I can't wait until Debra Webb publishes the next book in this series. I need to know more about Finley's husband Derrick!

Thank you, NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for this ARC.
