As soon as I started this book I was sent right back to my own teenage years spent at the beach. Persephone is headed back to Barry's Bay after 12 years away and will be seeing her former best friend Sam. The books goes between their teen summers and the present seamlessly and unravels the reasons for Percy and Sam's long absence from each other. I adored the entire book and I am telling everyone to read it! Every Summer After is the book of Summer 2022 in our store!

4.25 stars! I devoured this book - it is so, so good! It is the quintessential summer read and a heart tugging story about a second chance at love..

Carley Fortune sets such an amazing backdrop in Ontario cottage country at a lake several hours from Toronto. I was there at the cottages, gazing out at the wooden docks, the shimmering water, and I could feel the wet bathing suits after a refreshing swim and the warm sun drying the docks after a rainstorm. The author is that wonderful at bringing the atmosphere to life. The story is told in alternating then and now timelines. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to find out what happened then between the characters as they grew through their teenage years, spending summers at their neighbouring cottages and now, as they see each other again as adults, after 12 years apart. Percy, Sue, Sam, and Charlie will be on my mind for a long time, they became so real through the magic of this story.

I will look forward to seeing what Carley Fortune writes in the future!

Thank you to Penguin Random House Canada, Viking and NetGalley for the advance reader copy in exchange for my honest opinion..

Book of the summer! A perfect nostalgic story of teenage love, endless summers on the lake and second chances. This book had me feeling it all, happiness, joy and sadness. I could feel the warm sun on my back and the smell of living at the lake. Definitely one to pick up.

I absolutely adored this book!! It was the perfect summer read! I loved the way we got to see Sam and Percy’s relationship develop when they were younger and then how they meet back up in the future and how the two slowly come together to reveal what happened! I will definitely be recommending it to everyone!

I once said that I love books that have so much angst it makes me sick, and that's what this book gives you. It's a near-perfect second chance romance set in Barry's Bay that tells the story of Percy and Sam, alternating between flashbacks that lay out their history and the present. There's a perfect combination of angst and slow burn.

The only thing I didn't really love was the conflict that broke them up when they were younger -- I saw it coming but I wasn't into it, and thought it resolved a bit too neatly and quickly given what it was.

Overall, this was a very good romance book and one of my favourite reads this year.

Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin RandomHouse Canada for this ARC.

Thank you Netgalley, Penguin Random House Canada and Carley Fortune.
I loved the story of Sam and Percy who met at 13 during Percy summer vacation at their newly purchased cottage in Barry’s Bay, Ontario. Having lived in Ontario quite a few years it was easy to identify with the surroundings.
I loved all the characters in the book. This beautiful story of first love, family’s intricacies, loss, heartache and second chance romance.
Fast read, could not put it down.
This is Carley Fortune debut novel and I cannot wait to read her next novel
Recommend 4 stars

I could not put this book down! I wish I would have read it as soon as I got it, it was the perfect early summer read. I have already recommended this book to many people. I love that it was set in Ontario, and it felt very nostalgic for me, being around the same age as the characters and growing up in a small town. The vibe of this book is similar to Christina Lauren’s Love And Other Words, but stands on its own as something unique. Can’t wait to read more by this author in the future!

What a great debut novel. I loved the Canadian perspective (Muskoka! Tim’s!). Loved the second chances and small town tropes. The writing style was so pleasurable to read: I stayed up until 2 in the morning without really realizing because I just enjoyed the reading so much. Without giving spoilers, the scene near the end off the end of the Banana Boat had me crying but it was beautiful. Wish I could try Sue’s pierogies. I’ll definitely be on alert for more work from this author.

You're probably not going to be surprised with this extremely positive review for Every Summer After, but believe me when I say... this book is worth all the hype.

My all-time favourite trope is the second chance romance, so this novel hooked me immediately. The past and present timelines magnified the significant development the romance shared between Percy and Sam, as well as their own individual growth. While reading, I was able to see how much the two protagonists changed and evolved since childhood all the way into their 30s. I truly enjoyed seeing how the characters interacted at various points in their lives especially with one another. I found myself feeling giddy one second to feeling as if my heart was torn into pieces because of how emotional and impactful the dialogue throughout the book was.

The fact that this novel takes place in Barry's Bay, which is a town in Ontario, made this book even more intriguing, more personal. I was able to identify with the experiences, and I felt my inner fangirl go wild with every Canadian reference mentioned. Carley Fortune did an incredible job illustrating the setting and emphasizing that warm and carefree, summery atmosphere we're all pretty much longing for right now. Every Summer After is certainly THE ultimate summer romance. 💘

This book is the perfect read for those who are fans of The Summer I Turned Pretty or One True Loves. Every Summer After is just a stunning debut novel that everyone must read this summer, and I already can't wait for whatever Carley Fortune has in store next! This book was everything I wanted and more 🥹

I'd give this one an infinite amount of stars but my rating is, hands down, a 5⭐️

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House for my ARC!

5 huge stars!!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Have you ever read a book and felt like it was almost physically painful to put it down and go on with the rest of your life?? This doesn't happen to me often, but it did while I was reading this book. Carley Fortune has written the ultimate perfect summer reading book, but I just know I'll be revisiting these characters in another season too.

Here are a few of many things to love about this book:

1) Two timelines - now and then...then being YA age/young love, now being over a decade later. This pace worked so well for me as a reader and I devoured every word.

2) An instantly perfect summer setting at a cabin on a lake in Canada - I loved the Canadian-ness in this book!!!

3) A feeling of nostalgia, an uncertainty about what happened in the "then" timeline, and beautifully written prose and relationship building moments that were swoonworthy

4) Themes of love, family, friendship, growing up, growing together and apart, and forgiveness. Percy and Sam and Charlie were just so special.

I absolutely loved this book so much that I had to run out and buy my own copy to have forever. Something about it reminded me of the final episode of Dawson's Creek, which I'll admit makes me cry just thinking about. It was so wonderful.

Well done, Carley on your debut novel!! I cannot wait to follow your writing career. 🤞

If you plan on doing some reading anywhere near a large body of water this summer, make sure this is the book you bring ☀️🌊

This book has a dual timeline, and I’m not sure if it’s because one of them takes place when the main characters are teenagers, but this book brought me back to summers I spent reading Sarah Dessen and Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants in the best possible way.

I loved this book so much. The nostalgia, the characters, the setting, the little Canadian Easter eggs, ugh *chefs kiss* As someone who’s much more of a fall, sweater weather person, this book made me crave the sun (which is saying a LOT). It also helped that I am familiar with the areas mentioned in the book, which is always fun.

I also want to take a moment and acknowledge the fact that the characters in this book were SO well done. Carley Fortune did an incredible job of creating characters with depth. They made mistakes, they did things that you didn’t like, yet you still find yourself rooting for them and to me that is the sign of really well developed characters.

If you’re looking for a summery romance like Beach Read by Emily Henry or, if you were like me, spent your teenage summers bingeing YA contemporary romance and want to feel all those feels again, this one is for you.

Thank you to Penguin Random House Canada, Netgalley, and Carley Fortune for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Percy and Sam first became summer neighbours and then became best friends. As their friendship slowly evolves to love, things begin to become complicated until the one day that a mistake drives them apart.
A decade later Percy receives a call that has her rushing back and forced to face her past. As the story flips between the past and the present, the enormity of their love and loss unfolds.
An easy read. Great character development. Recommended for all who love this genre.

Second Chance romance with CoHo vibes! What an incredible novel - as an Ontarian girl, the author has spot on Canadian Summer vibes with all the feels. I very much look forward to other works from this author and would absolutely recommend you add this to your summer reading list!

This is a work of art created at a Colleen Hoover level. I strongly believe Carley Fortune will be one of my new favourite authors. I'll start with the fact that she's Canadian (from Ontario like me) and almost everything she referred to in terms of a Canadian summer was so relatable. She had me feeling waves of nostalgia for a life I didn't even live. Her characters were perfectly flawed, it would be hard to find someone to dislike (minus a few obvious ones).

If you're looking for a second chance romance to make you FEEL something, and you've read Colleen Hoover's entire backlist, then EVERY SUMMER AFTER must be your next choice. All the stars.

I don't want to ruin this for anyone cause it was EPIC. But I will say Fortune has a gift, & I can't wait for her next book!

The beginning is a little bit slow, took me a few chapters to get into it. But once I got into them, I was in it deep! The moment they reconnected in the beginning, I was flying through the book.

This book was the perfect summer read (and made us wish we had a cottage!).

Percy and Sam spent six summers together as teenagers. Now, 12 years later they are reunited and their connection is still there, but they need to decide if the past should stay in the past or if they have a future together. The story switches between past and present, and the author does a great job of evoking the feelings of being young and the excitement of the summer (and love!). Great characters, a great story, and some steamy scenes make for an enjoyable romance. Perfect summer read if you’re in the mood for something light and romantic! A nice, feel-good book.

I was ready for this book to be chock full of eye roll moments and suspension of disbelief for me… I am so glad to be able to say that I was wrong!

The anticipation, the build up, the angst are REAL. Sense of place is so well established that I could even smell the wood and the trees and the food while reading. The depth of adolescent emotion and character building is spot on.

Simply put: #EverySummerAfter is a tummy-butterflies-the-whole-way-through kind of read.

Love that this Canadian author made Toronto’s cottage country so accessible to any and every reader. Add this to your summer reading list now!

Thank you so much to Penguin Random House Canada and Netgalley for providing me with access to an ARC in exchange for my fair and honest review
