I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. This book is a bit like a choose your adventure for kids. You pick the character you want to be, where you will visit, and what you will sleep in: a fun and interactive book for kids.

Pirate Adventures provides the tools needed to tell a pirate story by giving options for protagonist, pathways, enemies, rewards, adventurer tagalongs, travel methods, and more. It is a guide to help you choose all the elements you need to write a story about pirates.

Thank you, NetGalley, for an e-ARC of Pirate Adventure by Lily Murray.
Pirate Adventure is a choose-your-own-story in picture book format. A great book for kids who like to tell stories, and an encouraging book for those who don't. Bright colors and fun illustrations will hold the attention of children. A great addition to a pirate-themed storytime!

Thank you to the author, publisher, illustrator, and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for honest feedback. I think the story was cute, but the shining feature of this book was the great illustrations. Would def suggest for a classroom or home library addition for the young reader.

The adventure begins with an opening question: Who will be the hero of your story? And there is an array of interesting characters to choose from. Each double-page spread has another prompt to move the story along. With each guided question a yarn is being crafted and all the elements of a good story are present. The cool thing is that there are infinite possibilities for the story based on the choices made on each page.

Hidden on every page is a little penguin that children will enjoy finding. This book offers great interaction between a child and their teacher or caregiver. If reading to a group of children, turns can be taken to add to the story.

The illustrations are engaging, the elements of a good story are clearly defined and this book could serve as a reference for older students to help them craft their own stories. To incorporate other disciplines, a child could write out their story or record their tale. There are so many things to explore on every single page, I highly recommend this book for any age!

Disclaimer: I received a free digital copy of Let's Tell a Story: Pirate Adventure from NetGalley. No other compensation was received.

In her earlier titles, Ms. Murray invited readers to participate in jungle and space adventures. In this newest book, the adventure is with pirates. In each of these delightfully illustrated books, the author invites children to make up a story. They get to pick characters, people to take with them, modes of transport, problems, solutions and more. Each time a child uses this book, they can make up a new tale.

Encourage your child to use their imaginations and to (maybe) share their story with you or write it down. Hopefully, they will enjoy the autonomy involved in choosing their own adventure and the way in which to tell it.

Many thanks to Quarto Publishing Group – Wide Eyed Editions and NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Thanks to Netgalley and Quarto Publishing - Wide Eyed Editions for the ARC of this!

We read the Jungle Adventure earlier this month and had a lot of fun with it, so I was extra excited to share this one with my kids. They are 5 and 8 and had a ton of fun with it! We all enjoyed sharing our stories! The illustrations were so cute, and it was very easy to tell a very basic story (by picking one image) for the 5 year old, or to take the time to elaborate for the 8 year old. Definitely recommend this series to budding authors and silly kiddos!

I received this arc in exchange for my honest review.

This was such a cute book!! It reminds me of the choose your own adventure books I read when I was a kid but this is a lt more engaging and interactive, which I think works for including a younger audience. I loved the planning and choosing of outfits and supplies, as well as the enemy you face! This has so much rereadability!

My family can’t get enough of the Let’s Tell a Story! series. Good thing there’s a new pirate adventure to be had. Packed with surprising and delightful characters, objects, places, and more, Pirate Adventure is an adventure for readers of all ages!

This book is fantastic to help children or students build a story. As a teacher, I loved how it was structured so the writer can build the story piece by piece but there was enough support to help the to really add detail without getting lost in the little things. It would also help this children who need help structuring the plot as the book walks them through the steps.

Thank you the #netgalley for the ARC copy to review. I will absolutely use this with my students!

This style of book is a great way to help children build their ability to tell a story. I think they would enjoy being able to pick from all the different choices and letting them be the ones to tell the story. The illustrations are great and would really help the children reading the book create their own story. This format, also allows children to re-read this book several times and having a different outcome each time.

What a fantastic idea for a different story every night. Me and my son have already played the “book story game” three times and each time he has created a new story. I hope the author has created more of these as I feel these would be a great addition for him to take to school and create stories there with the other children.

The illustrations are beautiful, and the choices are vast, although there were some questions that even I would struggle with (how I can only choose three things to take with me, I do not know) but it is a great way to encourage creativity and storytelling with children and adults alike. I did try to make the story myself with my son, but apparently it “wasn’t as good as his”

Plus, there is the cure little addition of a “find wally” scenario, where you have to find the missing penguin on every page, which added another level of fun into the story. It is amazing as the book made the bedtime story routine go through five minutes of reading the same story (my child’s favourite at the time) to encouraging a new story every evening, that can be funny, sad, completely heroic or just completely bonkers (as we have had at times, I mean a goat wearing flip flops, travelling to candy land to collect all the fries he can eat?) a child’s mind and creativity is one the most amazing places to visit!

My kids really loved this book. They had a blast making up their own adventures and wanted to read it over and over again to change their choices and see a new story unfold.

I love the "Let's Tell a Story" adventure books, and so do my 7- and 5-year-old niblings! I gave them the fairy tale and space versions of this book last year after discovering them on NetGalley, and both kids still beg to read the books with me whenever we hang out. Pirate Adventure is just as clever and fun as the other two. Like them, it consists of a story-building playground of a book rendered in brightly expressive illustrations. The concept is both smart and well executed - readers are given a prompt and a two-page spread of options, some wackier and goofier than others. The book encourages readers to describe their choices in extra detail. There are so many options, and so many different ways a story could go, all on the pirate theme, that this book could be read and enjoyed again and again and again without any repetition. A whimsical, adorable way of encouraging creativity and imagination with little storytellers!

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group: Wide Eyed Editions for the advance review copy!

Choose Your Own Adventure for the younger set! This is an uplevel to the wordless book which a shy child or beginner story teller can have trouble with sometimes. Problem solved. One or two times through and the kids won’t even need the verbal prompts. Kids even learn the framework for a good story. I think this book will be a hit!
