This was a cute, sweet book. I did enjoy it. I will be getting the rest of this series. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone I know!

DNF - This is perhaps not a book I should have requested as I soon found myself to not be the target audience for the work & that's not fair to the author when that happens as I know that there are readers who will come upon this work & eat it up.

So, I thought this would be a quaint, fun little book. Instead, this was a clumsily written story with somewhat awkward dialogue, with characters I did not like, and a main character who took way too long to kick her boyfriend to the curb for lying persistently to her. And her relationship with her friend Oliver (and probably romance interest going forward, I suspect) the police officer was irritating.

Thank you to Netgalley and to Blue Fortune Enterprises, LLC/Cactus Mystery Press for this ARC in exchange for my review.

Question: What do you get when you combine a missing Shaman, a birding convention, an amateur detective, a possibly murderous stalker, and a murder or two?

Answer: Birding in Brewster Square by Narielle Living, a fun fast cosy mystery with plenty of quirky characters, an interesting mystery, a little nod to the supernatural, and just a nice touch humour. This is the second book in a series but the first I have read but although there are some references to the first, it wasn’t enough to interfere with my enjoyment of this one. The mystery is wrapped up satisfactorily and there are hints at a future book, one I look forward to reading.

Connecticut, amateur-sleuth, law-enforcement, situational-humor, verbal-humor, family-dynamics, friendship, laugh-riot, investigation****

Is it a spoof? Maybe. Is it a laugh riot guaranteed to provide escape from current reality? YOU BET!
Very entertaining whether you've read the first in series or not (like me). The mystery is well done, the characters certainly are, and the hilarity doesn't stop! The publisher's blurb is a good start, but I couldn't put the book down until I had finished it!
I requested and received a free e-book copy from Blue Fortune Enterprises, LLC/Cactus Mystery Press via NetGalley. Thank you!

I received this ARC via Netgalley and Blue Fortune Enterprises/Cactus Mystery Press, in return for an honest review. While the second book in this series, it is easily read as a standalone. Ava Maria Sophia Cecilia O’Dell just suffered through a miserable first weekend of meeting her boyfriend’s parents. From the child-disaster blouse and accompanying smell, to his former(?) fiancée, there wasn’t much to put in the plus column of the visit.
Unfortunately, hiding out isn’t on the cards as Ava’s brother needs her help in manning his new age store for a weekend while he leads a ghost hunt. Piece of cake, right? Well, turns out that she also is hosting a shamanic workshop that includes creepy characters. When a body turns up, she is not as surprised as one might think. Where is the Shaman? Are the simultaneously visiting birding conference attendees involved and, if so, how? As Ava navigates this even more challenging weekend, she’s also struggling with her own situations and solving a murder is just the cherry on top!
Ava is a likeable heroine and humorous situations make this an enjoyable entry in the cozy mystery world.

My thanks to Blue Fortune Enterprises LLC, as well as to NetGalley, for the opportunity to read and review an early copy of Birding in Brewster Square.

What a cast of quirky, interesting characters! After Ava's disastrous visit to meet her boyfriend's parents, she would like nothing better than to find a safe spot to curl into. (I would have wanted to do the same thing!) While working in her brother's New Age-type store, she agrees to host a shamanic workshop. From there, we have friends (one who tried to kill her in the first book), good guys, bad guys, some very mysterious people, and a BRILLIANT dog, all mixed up with some woo-woo! What a hoot! There were quite a few times I laughed out loud.

Beneath the laughter, though, there was a timely message we all need to take to heart. I'll leave it at that, as I don't want to spoil any part of the book for anyone.

Although this is the second book in the series, I feel it can be read as a stand-alone. I'm eager to read the next one!

A jaunty little murder mystery, this book was a fun read. This book is part of a series, but it can also stand alone- you don’t need to have read the first one to follow this one, which I can appreciate. Not sure if I’ll return to Brewster Square, because I did find Ava (and the relationship between her and Oliver) rather annoying. Definitely a nice, light read though!

An unusual, quirky, and highly entertaining cozy mystery that kept me turning pages. Shamans and other elements, a solid mystery, likeable characters.
I want to read other books by this author.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

What do you get when you hold a shamanic workshop while a birding conference is also in town? Apparently murder, and lots of it! When Ava Maria Sophia Cecilia O’Dell (whew, that was a mouthful) agrees to help her brother out she figured it was going to be an easy favor, but it turns out to be anything but. With bodies piling up, she needs to figure out who the murderer is and why her shaman is missing too.

Set in coastal Connecticut, this is a fun series that is quaint and cozy! And I love the quirkiness, which is cozy to me. Can’t wait to read the first in the series and be ready for the next entry.

Quirky, cozy mystery involving fun and different elements, such as birding, butterflies, bugs, and shamans. Narielle Living brings her characters to life with wit and humor. A must read for mystery lovers, bird watchers, and anyone who enjoys shore-line towns in Connecticut. #NetGalley #BirdingInBrewsterSquare”
