🌱THE EXCELLENT
~ Intertwined mysteries
~ Small town secrets
~ Closed-off town murder investigation

A solicitor returns home after spending 6 months in the US, while trying to flee her love interest and responsibilities in Inishowen. Colourful cyclists are in town and things seem energised and optimistic, until a man falls dead, floods come and block off the town and highly convenient secrets upon secrets come creeping out of many creases. Who murdered the man? What tf had he been up to? Who was his true love? Why is a solicitor running around sharing investigation secrets randomly?! - These are all questions that M A Y be answered.

✨Give it a read.

🌱THE MEH
~ I didn’t feel compelled to push through
~ The mysteries were quite easy to solve - the most interesting being the one we return to at the end of the book
~ Somewhat meandering and boring?
~ Seems like information is shared pretty easily in Inishowen during murder investigations 😬

♡🌱 But that’s just me ;)

Thank you netgalley for allowing me to read Andrea Carter's 'The Body Falls' an Oceanview Publishing book. What a brilliant read, I just could put it down! The landscape descriptions made me want to go there. The characters I want to know more about then so much. I have already downloaded the first of (the 5) series. Such a clever plot and so easy to read. I am a Andrea Carter follower now😉

I consider myself a minor connoisseur of British detective novels at the intersection of not-too-hard-boiled and not-too-cozy.

The Body Falls by Andrea Carter fit in to my sweet spot; on the cozy side but happily nowhere near as cozy as Agatha Raisin. The heroine, female lawyer Ben, tries to solve the murder of a charity executive visiting her town for a cycling fundraiser, while the village is cut off from the rest of Ireland due to floods washing out all the bridges. I liked the main characters, and the Irish village setting was appealing. The text is in the pleasant and reliable voice of Ben, and the writing is fresh and enjoyable. I don't want to scare off anyone by calling it cozy: the writing is better than a cozy and never descends into all the superfluous telling or broad stereotypes of the typical twee cozy series.

I hadn't read any of the earlier books in the series. If I had, Ben's relationship with her boyfriend Molloy might have been clearer. I didn't think the detecting was brilliant, but this book charmed me enough to seek out some of Carter's early work. 3.5 stars. I think most readers, even non-mystery fans, would enjoy this book.

I’m a sucker for atmospheric Irish mysteries, strong and intelligent female main characters, and a good series where the characters develop, so this was a perfect book for me. While I’ve been fortunate enough to have read the earlier books by Andrea Carter, this could be read as a stand-alone, but I glad I didn’t as I’ve enjoyed them all.
Ben O’Keefe finds herself finally home again in rural Donegal Ireland, on the Inishowen peninsula, after a 6 month stay at a law firm in Florida. Looking forward to settling back into her practice, catching up with friends, and seeing where and on again, off again romance may lead, she hasn’t even been home to check on her cat when the area is hit with torrential rains, rising rivers flood the town, and washed out bridges cut the area off. Along with the trapped residents are a group of cyclists who were doing a charity ride, and, as things turn out, a possible murderer. The grey, ominous gloomy sky matches the emotions of many of the characters, quite a few of whom are hiding secrets. With help not available it’s up to the local police to figure out what happened while at the same keeping people safe as houses are engulfed by the rising river. The ending has me hooked already for the next in the series.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy, it’s with great pleasure I highly recommend this book and wonderful series to others.

3.75 stars

I liked the community of Inishowen on the northernmost coast of Ireland. Perhaps it was the quirky characters, the different weather or the atmosphere of small-town living in such a different setting. Whatever it was, they had just enough crime to keep solicitor and amateur sleuth, Ben O’Keeffe, and her lover, Sergeant Malloy, busy.

When a dead body literally fell on her friend’s car, it gave new meaning to ‘death from extreme heights’. Adding to the conundrum was the person was bitten by a snake but died of a heart attack. Because of a charity event, there were plenty of visitors in Inishowen and potential killers. It reminded me of working on a puzzle and trying to fit all the pieces together.

Because this is a series with enough regulars on the pages, I would advise not reading The Body Falls as a stand-alone. If you do, you might become overwhelmed and not enjoy all the nuances and quirky characters I mentioned earlier.

There’s also the relationship between Ben and Malloy that rears its head once in awhile. Are they a couple or aren’t they? Honestly, I wanted more Malloy. What’s going on in his head, his earlier life (parents? childhood?), what made him decide on his career and just how important is Ben to him?

I expect after reading the last chapter, another story is to come. Well, I am ready.

Thank you to Andrea Carter, NetGalley and Ocean View Publishing for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

The story is set in the middle of rain and floods which add to the atmosphere of the plot. The suspense is good with an added twist in the end. It would work well as a stand-alone for newcomers to the series.

Benedicta (Ben) is an Irish lawyer who has been working in Sarasota, FL for 6 months practicing Elder Law. She’s from Glendora Ireland where she returns at the start of the book. Back in Glendora, Ben is eager to get back to her practice and resolve things with Malloy, her sometimes boyfriend who happens to be the local sergeant. Heavy rain and flooding cause the area to close down. When a body is found, the search is on to find the killer. Ben and Malloy will find that everyone involved is keeping secrets.

This is my first book by this author. This isn’t the first book in the series and I felt like I did miss out by not reading those first. The mystery was good and there seems to be more to the story to come. It’s worth the read.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

I have enjoyed the prior books in this series, and this one is no exception. I love the setting and the characters, and you don't need to have read the prior books to enjoy this one. In this entry, attorney Ben O'Keefe and her off-again, on-again romantic interest Garda Sergeant Tom Molloy investigate the murder of a bicycle charity race organizer. Turns out he was an odious man and there are plenty of suspects. This is taking place while Inishowen is cut off from the outside by torrential rains that won't let up, making this a locked room type of mystery. Recommended.

This was a very different type of “detective” novel seeing as though our main character Ben O’Keefe is a solicitor. This is part of a series but the first that I read, and I felt it was fine to read as a stand-alone. I really enjoyed the writing of this book; there was a sort of calm eeriness and moodinesses. The plot wasn’t rushed, so it felt like picking apart pieces of a puzzle by sorting like with like instead of diving right in. The weather and scenery definitely added to the ambiance. This was an easy read and it was quite enjoyable!

Thank you NetGalley and Oceanview Publishing for the eARC.
This 5th in the Inishowen series is as lovely as the previous ones. It starts in Florida, where Ben O'Keeffe has just finished a 6-month stint at her old law firm. When she gets back to Ireland her first stop is at her parents' where a young man is staying with them. Ben is very suspicious, but after getting back to Inishowen she is jetlagged, has to start getting her practice back to normal and then an enormous flood hits. She has no way of getting to her home, everything is cut off. However, the one good thing is Molloy is there, and she realizes they missed each other. Then a body falls on a car driven by a friend and there's a murder to be solved under extremely taxing circumstances. The man was the leader of a biking trip to raise money for charity.
As usual, I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I really like Ben and the funny, cute relationship she has with her cat. The resolution of the case was a surprise; I kind of guessed, but not properly. It was a bit sad and the final paragraph sets us up for the 6th in the seried. It looks good!
Definitely recommended!

Benedicta is a solicitor who has been working in Sunny Florida for six months.
On her return to Ireland, the village she works in is overrun by cyclists riding for a charity.
Torrential rain stops the ride, and the organizer of the cycle race is found dead in suspicious circumstances - a snake bite in Ireland is definitely suspicious.

Ben's boyfriend is Garda Tom Molloy and the murder is solved between Ben's 'meddling' and his police work.

This seemed like a very long and dreary book to me. I have not read the previous 4 books in the series.

There was a twist in the end, but the book did not grab me from page one.

Another good effort from Andrea Carter although not the strongest of the series. Interesting characters, good plot development.
