In Happy Mind, Happy Life, Dr. Rangan Chatterjee has written a new book about happiness and how we need to get our mind right. He has been a doctor for over 20 years. He begins the book by encouraging readers to take a few moments and ponder a moment when they were truly happy. He then asked what happened to cause us to lose that happiness. He explained how people who make small health changes in their lifestyles have brought about great change in their overall health. He has helped readers to get better sleep and practice one minute breathing techniques. He has also helped readers to manage their stress levels and making small changes to their diets. Stress is a big part of what the doctor sees when they meet with patients every single day. He has witnessed how happiness has helped readers to become healthier when they have less stress. He shared a powerful study Professor Lauie Santos completed. He injected rhinoviruses up their nostrils and discovered that the ones who were happier had a less chance of being sick. When we are happier, we have more energy to work out, socialize, and avoid bad foods. He shared that we all need to tap into our core happiness. These consist of contentment, alignment, and control. It is a forever long journey in which we walk in every day. Luckily, we can work these muscles every day to grow in strength and increase our happiness. The book enclosed ten simple ways to obtain happiness and 20 exercises to assist you.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is ready to become happier and they are tired of being burden down by stress. I immensely loved the different exercises to work on our journey to happiness. I thought they were very helpful and powerful to guide us. I loved the topic of learning to treat ourselves with respect and I think this will be very beneficial to readers. This book has the potential to help us to manage and control our stress. I loved the breathing techniques and how we can take the time to slow down and reflect. I enjoyed how he contained numerous studies and explored the science of happiness.

I love taking time in the morning to read or listen to a book and reflect in my journal. April’s book was Happy Mind Happy Life by Rangan Chatterjee.

I really enjoyed this book. The chapters each tackle a different overall concept, such as conversing with strangers, dealing with conflict or how to go on holiday everyday. He embeds each chapter with research and client stories as well as his own stories and reflections. He actually gives steps to follow, which as a reader I greatly appreciated. I could write these down and figure out how to apply them to my life.

I do have a diagnosed anxiety disorder and my husband is a huge support in my mental health journey. This book also provided us with a lot of talking points with how I could apply strategies and how he could support me.

Pursuing happiness isn’t going to instantly eliminate all your problems. Although the book might feel like it’s too positive, that’s not his message. He provides similar encouragement for small switches you can make in your everyday life. Positivity can do a lot in our physical and mental health and his book is short and easy to access. I’m excited to read more from him 👏🏻 Thank you to @netgalley for access to the audio book.

Dr. Chatterjee shares his own life experiences as examples to help one understand his ideas on how you can improve you life. He explains that there are perhaps several things we might think are happiness but then clarifies what is really the happiness one should seek. He offers practices to add to your life that can help build on your overall happiness. He tells us happiness is a decision and that if you practice happiness everyday you will naturally become happier. Much of what he tells us you might already know or realize but I believe it helps to be reminded of ways to work on your own self and your own happiness in this busy, jaded world we live in today!

Thank you BenBella and NetGalley for this ARC. This is the second Dr Chatterjee book I’ve had the pleasure to read.
In his latest book Dr Chatterjee talks about the importance of core happiness to our overall well-being. Using the analogy of a stool the reader is led through three quotients that need to be in balance to ensure our true, authentic happiness. The way to create balance is demonstrated in simple ways and exercises to ensure the formation of these habits are given. When followed a powerful compound effect can be observed. As case studies reveal.

Thank you for this easy to read, beautifully photographed book. I highly recommend it,

I crowed out loud in laughter, gaped in realization, and thoroughly enjoyed HAPPY MIND, HAPPY LIFE by Dr. Rangan Chatterjee. In clear, fascinating stories and examples, Dr. Chatterjee offers a view of living well from our ultimate starting place, who we are and how we want to live in this world. Rather than proclaim ways to do this or that and then you'll be happy and successful and the envy of everyone, he focuses on our lived experience. For me, I was captivated from the first lines of his book and learned a great deal through simple, straightforward exercises that changed my view of myself, others, and the world. An important, timely book for a time when we are emerging from lockdown and getting back to more real-world living. I received an advance copy of this book and these thoughts are my own, unbiased opinions.

Who is totally happy with their life? I think we can all improve our lives one way or another. Dr C writes an in-depth book on ways to do this. He gives many examples of his patients who came to him for help and he assisted these people gain more control over their lives. I agree with much of his advice: find one method in the book that speaks to you and do that every day, such as writing down things you’re grateful for, spend less time on your phone—go see actual friends, spend time outside, meditate.

“If you practice happiness every day, you’ll become a little bit happier.”

I think it all boils down to stepping back, getting away from things you do that prevent your happiness. Identify those things. Find rewarding actions that will make you feel good about yourself. When you feel good about yourself you will be happier and have better relationships with others. This book gives you much to ponder and concrete ways to help.

I received an advanced copy for my honest opinion.

I am a huge fan of Dr. Chatterjee, his books, and his podcasts. The common sense advice, backed up with experience both personal and professional and by scientific studies, is pure gold. He helps you find your truth, your happiness. He gives to the keys to finding what you need. He doesn't tell you the exact plan to find what you need because that is different for everyone. He gives you a plan, an idea and it is up to you to do the work needed to come out on the other side a happier person.

Do you want to find happiness and peace? The answers are here. They may sound simple but they only work if you put in the work. What are you waiting for? Go out and grab a copy and get started you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

"The greatest prison you'll ever live in is the one you create in your mind".

Dr Chatterjee is a gem and I was so excited to read his newest book Happy Mind, Happy Life.

He breaks down how our Want Brain ultimately leaves us more unsatisfied, micro stress doses throughout the day add up, happy habits to form, effects on relationships, gratitude, creating daily vacations, and more.

Everything is broken down in nice bite sized bits you can start implementing right away. And as a nice touch, there are links to podcast episodes that go deeper into topics for additional information on topics that interest you.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

Ideas which are simple to follow. Elements which can be applied to everyday life. It made me think long and hard about how long I spend on my phone and reassess how the phone is becoming like another member of the family.

It was good to see there are elements I was already doing as part of my day. I like the fact his examples are easy to follow and he includes case studies to back up the science.

Worth a read. Definitely feeling more happy

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and Dr. Rangan Chatterjee for a digital ARC of this book. All opinions expressed are solely my own. Reading this book can be compared to visiting a warm and caring personal physician. Dr. Chatterjee is empathetic, knowledgeable and offers easy to apply advice.
He covers ten rules to make small changes which add up to a happier and more fulfilling life. Two of the rules I found very useful were reducing cell phone usage and eliminating choice. Dr. Chatterjee explains how to implement changes and includes case studies. This book is very well researched and provides references and recommendations for further reading. A very nice addition are the photos of the author, his family and nature. This is definitely a must read for anyone in search of a calmer and more grounded life.

I am familiar with Dr. Rangan Chatterjee, and have been a fan for years. I have read a couple of his previous books, and have listened to his podcast. I was already expecting to like this book, but I had no idea the powerful and positive impact it would have on me.

There is so much to love about this book. Dr. Chatterjee continues to educate his readers through practical, useful and actionable science-backed information that can be utilized by anyone. He covers a wide range of topics, from self-respect to seeking out friction, to figuring out how to “go on holiday” every day. My favorite chapter discusses how “giving yourself away” to others can have an equally positive effect on your own happiness.

The case studies were on point in each chapter, and helped to illustrate further the main ideas of the book. I also really enjoyed the podcast references throughout the book. It is a simple (and cost-free) way to help the readers dig deeper into the subjects that interest them most.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, and will definitely buy my own copy to highlight and reference.

Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC in return for an honest review.

As a firm believer in the power of social connection and daily movement and meditation for mental health, this book really resonated with me and I found myself nodding along to many of the points. It is written clearly and well in a non patronising and friendly way.

I didn't knew Dr Rangan Chatterjee until now, so I'm glad I found this book and I was surprised how great this book is.
It is written in a language that speaks directly to you. I think complex problems are simple explained. There are ten ways explained, how you can control your health again. The real study-cases and the exercises are realy helpful. If you have real examples before your eyes, everything seems easier.
That's a book to keep close to you, so you can come back to it from time to time when you need it.
I would definitely recommend this book to everyone.

Dr Rangan Chatterjee’s new book is a nonfiction book which expresses a variety of ways to improve your overall wellbeing and happiness through research backed techniques. Truthfully this book began with a slow tone, the writing was lengthy and I found myself wishing for more techniques included within each page. However as the pages built upon one another, I soon was interested. I enjoyed the questions Dr Chatterjee included in some sections of the book, which urged me to look internally at how I behave and react in situations. It was fascinating to learn about new perspectives I hadn’t thought of before, linked to how I perceive others. There are also a variety of related resources attached within the book, like Dr Chatterjee’s podcast episodes. This was something I found useful for further research.
In conclusion, I unfortunately found this book bittersweet. I have previously read Dr Chatterjee’s previous book ‘Feel better in 5’ which I thoroughly enjoyed. But this book didn’t catch my interest like that book did. As for some constructive feedback: I think the book could have included more adaptable exercises to try. I would still recommend this book for those who wish to learn more about research backed methods of increasing happiness. Perhaps for individuals who are looking for a knowledgeable author. Thankyou to Netgalley, Dr Rangan Chatterjee and BenBella books for the DRC!
