Blade Breaker, the second installment in Victoria Aveyard's Realm Breaker series, picks up right where the first left off. Corayne, a pirate's daughter with powerful magic, leads a band of unlikely heroes against a seemingly unstoppable enemy threatening to engulf the world in darkness.
The novel is praised for its fast-paced action and the continued development of its core characters. Aveyard expands the world-building, introducing new lands and allies while raising the stakes for the overarching conflict.
Fans of the series will likely enjoy Blade Breaker's thrilling plot and the growing complexity of the characters. If you're new to the Realm Breaker series, it's recommended to start with the first book for a better understanding of the world and characters.
Love the world and character building! Also really enjoy the different POV chapters. I felt way more invest in the supported characters in this sequel then for first.
This was a great follow-up tp Realm Breaker. I don't always find sequels satisfying, so it was nice to read this and feel like the author was able to put just as much energy into this one as the first.
This was an epic and exciting continuation of the series! I cannot wait for the third book. This is the first lord of the rings type retelling that has really captivated me. The wide cast of characters are well developed and leave you hoping they will all make t to the end of their quest.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an advanced copy of Blade Breaker by Victoria Aveyard. This sequel was not as engaging as the first in the series, but still engaging enough to make me want to continue.
Love Victoria Aveyard's writing and cannot wait to finish the series! Great world building, plot twists and action.
Will good or evil prevail?
17yo Corayne and her mismatched crew are reeling from the battle to close the Spindle as they observe dead Galland soldiers and sea serpents surrounding them. As they move on, forty Ibal soldiers approach and tell the crew they have orders from their king to take Corayne to him, and the crew travels along because they’re staying together. The group has no idea what to expect when they meet the Ibal king. Erida continues to take kingdoms by force with the help of Prince Taristan and wizard Ronin, both of whom are occupied by the demon What Waits, and when she kills a fifteen year old princess, she gains another kingdom. A new Spindle is found and when Corayne reaches it to close it, she discovers a trap. Will evil or good conquer the realm?

Stellar Sequel! I’m loving the evolution of the main characters. And that freaking ending was…well, I don’t want to talk about it. Still not okay.
I loved Realm Breaker, and Blade Breaker did not disappoint. Aveyard's writing is fantastic in this, and I feel like each character really had a unique voice. So many YA fantasies are more romance heavy, and I enjoyed that this really had a fantasy adventure feel to it. I don't think I'm alone in saying that the bad guys here were so much fun. Erida is a villain I love to hate and hate to love. This is a fantastic sequel.
I THOUGHT THIS WAS A DUOLOGY. YOU MEAN THERE'S MORE?!?
I think I liked this book better than the first, since the characters are at least established at this point. It still feels like there is not enough making me want this entire group to succeed. Did I get emotional for Sorasa having to do what she did and the aftermath? Yes. And I think that was the only time I cared about the feelings of a character from this book.
AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON THE ROMANCES WE DON'T NEED!!! I won't go into much detail but the tension between some of these couples is giving me the ick.
Finally... how did almost nothing happen in over 500 pages? There were two battles, yes. But everything else still just felt like filler. I need to feel invested and still... nothing.
(Also Erida, I love you as a villain but Taristan is not it).
Here's hoping the third book will reel me in, finally.
Could wait to read this next book in the series as we were left on such a cliff hanger. This second installment did not disappoint. We got to dive deeper into the world and each of the character's personalities. I loved reading more about Tristan and Erida. Looking forward to the next.
This sequel was epic. The worldbuilding that Victoria Aveyard does is truly incredible. I'll definitely be recommending this to my readers who love epic fantasies and fantastical worlds.
Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins Children's Books for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The world building is still on point for this book. I was hoping to be able to learn more about the characters and their personalities but it just wasn't there for me. I did enjoy the few moments where I was furiously flipping pages to find out what would happen in the next chapter, but those moments were few and far between. All in all, I wanted to love and enjoy this book but I found it didn't capture me fully. In my most honest opinion, you can tell this feels like a "middle of the series" story and I just hoped for a bit more. Alas, I'll have to wait.
I am OBSESSED with this. I'm already counting down til book three. I need more of Dom and Sorasa. I need more Corayne and Andry. And I even need more of Erida and Taristan. Book 1 took me a bit of time to learn the world and really get into...but now I honestly can't get enough. MORE PLEASE.
Victoria Aveyard is one of my favorite authors and this installment in the Realm Breaker trilogy did not disappoint. I love all the characters and have become attached to all to POVs, even the villain's! Places and maps are very important to this story, so be prepared with the map on the inside cover (which is gorgeous). Descriptions put you right in the Realm and you can see everything around you. I look forward to the final book, especially after that cliff-hanger.
This book was very entertaining and I definitely recommend this to fantasy lovers. The worldbuilding, and the conflicts within and between characters and countries kept me hooked.
Overall, I liked reading about the characters and especially the reluctant friendship between Dom and Sorasa. Erida and Tristan were very fleshed out but I'm not sure how to feel about their romance. The romance between them felt somehow out of place but also something integral to the story because it has been set up from the first few chapters of book one when Erida explains to her court the requirements whoever she marries must meet. They are both melodramatic characters, and this combined with their grandiose schemes is what made them the most interesting characters to me. I'm definetely not rooting for them; they're interesting because I recognise their warped world views, their self-righteousness and greed from the real world.
I didn't enjoy this novel as much as the first book because I felt like there was more court politics and planning for the next move rather than action and I felt that some of the scences became repetitive after seeing similar ones in the first book. I also wanted more information from this book about what Spindles are and other realms.
I received a copy of Blade Breaker from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
I was really looking forward to reading Blade Breaker by Victoria Aveyard. I remember loving Realm Breaker and thought the sequel had to be just as good. But I was a bit disappointed in this one.
It took me an extraordinary amount of time to finish reading in part because I didn't feel as invested as I did with Realm Breaker.. I couldn't escape the feeling that Aveyard was building up to something monumental but that build up didn't come to fruition for me. The crescendo didn't ring for me.
I did enjoy the development of some of the characters, Sarasa Sarn and Andry Trelland, for example, and the appearance of the dragon was exciting. But ultimately I'm left wondering if I want to pursue reading the third book in the series when it's available.
This book continues the epic adventure started in book one, Realm Breaker. As with the first in the series, I enjoyed the ragtag group of minor characters -- Sorasa, Dom, Sigil, and Valtik stood out again as my favorites. Those minor characters are the reason I'll be reading the next. I enjoyed this book a bit more than the first because of the heightened stakes and the more tense battle scenes that occur naturally in the plot structure of the series. However, this book still suffers from being too slow to start and too quick in those moments we've been building up to for hundreds of pages. I get a gut feeling that Aveyard is building up to the most epic, heroic fights, saving them for the final book in the series, but each of the earlier books need a bit more to anchor them as satisfying texts on their own. And unfortunately, I'm still not jazzed about Corayne and Andry. Both are underdeveloped comparatively, and I find their perspectives to be a bit dry and less well rounded than those of the other Companions. After all the tension from books one and two, I'm sure book three will deliver some excellent narrative twists and turns.
Blade Breaker is the sequel to Aveyard's fantasy masterpiece Realm Breaker. This book is huge, but packed with action that will keep the reader engaged and on the edge of their seat! If you read the first book, all of your favorite characters are back: Andry, Coraine, Sorasa, Dom, Valtik. They band together, as different as they are, to try to expel Taristan and Queen Erida. If they fail, the world as they know it just might cease to exist.
I love anything Aveyard writes. This book will intimidate some readers because it is massive, but it will suck you in and you will love every page! I promise.
