My thanks to Netgalley for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review, which I freely give.

This comes under the heading of a cosy mystery, which I like. It is set in the Yorkshire seaside town of Scarborough. I have been but do not know it well, although I do recognise places mentioned, North shore, South shore etc. A theatre group book in at the Seaview a 3* B & B as the normal 'digs' is closed because of problems. Helen who owns the small hotel is a widow she used to run it with her husband, a huge Elvis fan. She has an old juke box in the bar loaded with Elvis records. Helen employs 2 people, Jean who cooks the breakfasts and has won awards for them. Sally who helps Helen clean the bedrooms each day. Helen also has Sukki a retired Greyhound who she had from a rescue home. I do not know much about Greyhounds, but I loved her. It is obvious that the author does.

After taking the booking for the drama group, Helen then gets a booking for 1 night from a lady who she believes to be a hotel inspector.

The actors, duly arrive, there is friction between some of them. Jean knows the leading lady as they went to school together. Helen is going out with someone who is away working but has many secrets. The owner B&B next door is a bit of a bitch. We learn a lot about the lives of the charactors bit by bit as they are introduced to us.

The murder, well without giving anything away happens once all the characters are introduced to us. I loved them all and felt so sorry for Helen.

This is a great 5* star read which I can recommend. I hope there will be another book where we can have updates on Helen, Jean and Sally.

Great cozy mystery. I love the characters, the plot had it all - mystery, some twists and turns, and some interesting characters. Truly enjoyable book, I recommend reading it if you are a fan of cozy mysteries.

The long awaited sequel to Murder at the Seaview Hotel. You won’t want to put it down.

Book Two from this author in the cosy mystery series.
And what a book that I just could not put down, as we join Helen Dexter the landlady of the Seaview hotel Scarborough along with her greyhound Suki, the business is doing splendidly for early September and a Theatre group will soon be arriving to rehearse for the play Midnight with Maude.
The Dawleys Theatre company are a mixed bunch, and Helen and her ladies do everything they can to make them all welcome, not expecting to have a murder of one of the casts to deal with, she hopes it doesn't effect her chances of getting another star rating on her hotel.
Jimmy Brown is also arriving back so will see how the romance pans out.
This author never fails me in her writing as she has a clever way of making you feel included in the story with all the characters this is a fabulous second book, and I will certainly recommend to all readers. Loved it.

A much awaited sequel to the amazing new cosy crime series from the fabulous Glenda Young.
We left book 1, Murder at the Seaview Hotel (if you haven’t read it, READ IT NOW!) wanting more, and the more has arrived with more of the characters we fell in love with. Helen is not only a believable character, you want her to be your friend; add in Jean, Sally, Suki (the retired greyhound) et al, as well as the new troupe of people that the whole story is set around and you’ve got another barn stormer, I’m not the fastest reader but both books were finished over a weekend each as I just wanted to know more.
You feel like you know Scarborough from the way it is passionately and accurately written about, as a resident that brings such familiarity to all settings, as an outsider (we have sent book 1 to friends and family all over the country) they feel they know Scarborough like a local. It’s simply a beautiful thing.
We are ready for more Glenda, bring on book 3, what else can Helen encounter in her fabulous guest house with those views of North Bay and the castle? What more will she ask of Jean to add to the breakfast menu? Jimmy?

I really enjoyed reading this cosy murder mystery. Set in Scarborough, the pace of the book is just right, an easy and very enjoyable read. Good plot and well worked out unexpected twists. Can't wait for the next installment.

This is a really good book, it is well written, with a compelling storyline and well developed and engaging characters. I really like the setting too.
It was gripping with twists and a level of unpredictability that left me not knowing what to think, who to trust, and guessing right up until the end. I reaklly enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more.

This is the second book in the Helen Dexter mystery series and once again its a wonderful cosy read with absolutely everything I love.

You don't need to read the first book in the series prior to this, but I would recommend you do as it gives you a little extra back story plus its a fabulous read.

In this story Helen plays host to an acting troupe who have booked in to the Seaview Hotel. Whilst there they use the hotel lounge as a rehearsal room for the play they are to put on in Scarborough's local theater. When one of the leading actors is found murdered on the beach the police visit hotel trying to establish who killed her. Also, to create more pressure for Helen, a hotel inspector is in town, will she finally get that extra star she has been wishing for.

Once again the story is perfectly written with a solid storyline and ending. I found myself engaged in the characters and wanting to find out who the killer was.
I really enjoy all of the characters especially Jean the hotel's cook who is a really delightful character. What I love most about this series is that the author has not made Helen an overbearing pushy character. Far too often i find female leads in cosy mysteries too overbearing and interfering, whereas Helen is the opposite. I also love Helen's real and vulnerable side. Her reluctance to take things further with Jimmy is very real to life which i liked.

The book is set in my favourite costal town of Scarborough and i love reading about places i recognise. It immediately creates a warm image in my head and makes the story an even bigger pleasure to read.

I really do love this series. It is light, easy to read and a perfect cosy crime series. I highly recommend.

A Dead Diva…
A wholly entertaining mystery set in the Yorkshire seaside town of Scarborough, the second in a new series of cosy crime and a change of genre for this accomplished author. With an acting troupe booked into the hotel things are hectic and tensions abound. All comes to a tragic head when the leading lady is found murdered. She was, indeed, a diva but who would want her dead? With a likeable protagonist in Helen and a storyline populated with a cast of well developed and well crafted supporting characters this is an engaging and colourful read from start to finish. A fun plot and plenty of wry humour completes the package

At the Seaview Hotel in Scarborough, the guests this time are a theatre company rehearsing a play which they hope will save the local seafront theatre. But it's not a harmonious group, and when there's a death, motives abound.

But all is not great for proprietor Helen either. Odd phone calls, a vandalised car - and the hotel inspector's due a visit.

I really can't wait for more seaside adventures!

The setting and all of the characters are quite strong and well developed. Scarborough sounds delightful, and the warm relationship between the main characters is convincing. However, I felt the plot a bit tenuous, and the relationship with Jimmy far fetched.
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for this advance copy.
